So, i was wondering which skills to assign to assassin’s mark and blades of wrath for my pierce based 2h ranged tactician. I came across this post by mad_lee with the same query ( Best skills to assign Assasin's Mark and Blades of Wrath on Infiltrator? ).
After reading a few replies it seems to me that the best choices are WPS over default attack replacers, also some conflicting advice about using inquisitor seal or not for blades of wrath. Now i’m not sure which skills to pick to best utilize AM and BoW.
The build that im using: Tactician, Level 43 (GD 1.2.1.3) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator don’t mind the lack of components and the messy skill order
it’d be great help if someone can answer these:
1.Am i correct to assume that skill that can crit often like AOEs are more suited for these rather than skills that are used more often?
2.If i use a skill like inquisitor seal will they proc only from rebuke of inquisitor seal or does any type of dmg from the seal counts i.e passives/item modifiers like from Mythical Korvan Wyrm - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database
3.Is there any information that is completely invalid for 1.2.1.5 ( the original post was made back in 1.0.6.0 patch )
I would put Assasin’s Mark on a default attack. That way it seems to trigger from all of your WPS. Although this doesn’t apply to Cadence. I’d probably still put it on Cadence, because it’s a skill you use all the time.
it does apply to cadence, cadence will still trigger devos on first 2 hits, also even if you have wps
“depends”
something like Assassin’s Mark triggers on the target, so there you don’t want to have it example on a CD aoe or "aoe = multiple chance to get a crit"consideration, because the way triggers and procs can work is you get 1instance of devo application for 1 instance of dmg dealt
That means if the aoe is “instant”, like horn of gandar or bursting round, it means although you might hit many thus having a higher chance of getting a crit you will only get 1 counted in that instance/bunch, and for AM specifically means you’ll only get 1 application in that bunch per trigger use.
Othertypes of AoEs can work differently, be it they travel or “tick”; word of pain ticks every second, so that means every target affected is counted as their own instance/application each sec for a crit check.
Boneharvest travels in a “slow” wave so can get many individual/non instant counted hits
Something like Assassin and Blades of Wrath is not a direct target application, so there the situation is entirely normal, ie you just want “a” crit triggered, so in theory any aoe or frequency attack is good to maximize potential hits, while preferably not having a CD skill higher than the devos cd
for me personally i like Blades of Wrath on pets if possible, seal, blade spirits etc, seems more fun and reliable, wps does work
Unknown assassin i like on 3sec cd skills if “spamable” is not possible (ring of steel etc), but wps again works
Assassin’s Mark i would only put on wps if really desperate, simply because of the multiplicative chance interaction means you get a potential much lower chance than other sources. But wps works in a pinch
*on a technical side, since AM has 18sec duration refreshing it/maintaining 100% uptime is usually not an issue, so it’s more about the initial application happening fast when using a “good” trigger like DAR or other spamable/high frequency trigger
keep in mind you will also have to face the scenario of 1v1, where you wont have AoE targets to help you trigger crits, that’s why non individual stuff like BoW and Shadows can still get other considerations than merely slapping it on an AoE skill, and in such case matching CD for ex Blades of Wrath could be bad, because you might simply not trigger a crit every 1.8 sec on single target if you had BoW on ABB.
Likewise with attack frequency you might not get as many on wps, 3.65 attacks per second/wps chance/crit chance - meanwhile that could still be palatable for AM/Shadows because its duration even if initial application could be delayed
dmg doesn’t matter, seals/pseudo pets don’t deal additional frequency of attacks based on dmg additions, but their innate ability
Seal is just an aura, ticking fixed 1x/sec, doesnt’ matter if add 15 modifiers or 7 types of dmg, being an aura or its fixed tick rate wouldn’t matter in that regard
Devs then gave it an invisible 0dmg aoe “skill” to trigger devos, witch as far as i know has the same 1sec interval
if a pet has “active” skills those can be used/will trigger devos too, ex Wind devils is just a moving version of seal functionally, but if you add in maelstrom they get a direct additional skill that can then trigger devos on top, blade spirits has their blade nova as extra.
Guardian of empyrion then being “directly attacking”/their base attack is an attack skill itself so everytime they slap it counts, adding more dmg to them wouldn’t impact that, but there is ex a couple items that make them slap faster, increasing potential devo trigger frequency then
