We had a rather heated discussion on the topic, closer to FOA release, and then it kinda drifted away. Let’s bring it back for PTR.
Remove the opportunity to have an even amount of AAR beams. Make everything +2. Even beams are awkward and lame. When you point a mouse cursor at an enemy and press a button, it’s reasonable to expect the skill to actually shoot where aimed (unless it’s TSS of course).
They don’t even shotgun, so damage isn’t a concern. if AOE coverage is, cap the max amount at something reasonable like 7.
Absolutely yes. Even number should not exist. Again there was more or less an agreement on this and nothing in the patch. And this is true with so many things…
my personal problem is: Albrecht’s Commendation is hands down best-in-slot medal for AAR, you are gimping yourself damage-wise if you are not taking it, so as of now you are left with 2 ugly beams.
Breaking signature Aether AAR Set (Spellbinder) to use new helm for 3rd beam is a not a good design choice when vitality AAR simply slaps new medal + off-hand and gets 3-beams without breaking the set.
Fire AAR is also in wierd spot as you need lightning to fire for AAR on Mark of Ulzuin so you cannot expect anybody playing AAR to drop this medal?
It looks like 3 beams is the top of evolution and character progress for AAR in order to handle what Crucible 180-200 and fully buffed Altar throw at you, so i think these requests to add +1 beam to Mark of Ulzuin and Fleshwarped Tome are reasonable and do not break game balance.
Besides, you have Pulsing Shard for adcth to AAR during leveling while you don’t have Mythical Essence of Grim Dawn so you are levelling with 1 beam and then you transit to 3 beams.
yes, but “i don’t want to transit to 3 beams on every aar build”
i really think people need to come to terms with 2 beam play, it’s not that complicated to control because of the overlap.
But i also “agree”/think it’s hella annoying some of the BiS items have +1 beam to begin with then forcing you into it or needing to self gimp.
On a visual level i don’t enjoy 2-3 beam constantly, (i’d actually kinda prefer one of the AARs actually got the “wheel” teased), i think it was Mav that said it elsewhere to leave 1 beam viable and on the table (slapping beams on everything removes this).
On the FoA modifier/“boost” level, i dislike it similarly as if we “solve” everything by adding OS stacks and Charges to “everything”… homogenisation is boring like that, even if easy or effective, we need alternatives and variables for the variety and flavour.
literally not…
It’s an extremely poor comparison…
extra beam doesnt’ give you more dps remember, just more AoE, so its only benefit is in aoe centric content, which not everything has to be, but more so not everything has to be equal in application in it.
Similar reason like why pre foa we didnt’ just slap +tdm on everything to solve every issue despite being easy
your argument effectively boils down to “turn every skill into callidor’s tempest spam”, and it’s not a great solution for everything
It looks like shit though and ruins the build fantasy which becomes “I’m a kind of uncoordinated mage that can’t aim properly, but I can sort of make it work.” I mean, why do we need to come to terms with that?
i really don’t get the can’t aim part, i’ve no clue where people are getting that feel or pov of - i’ve 0 trouble targeting my beams
you only need to come to terms with it inso far as not slapping multi beams on everything, that’s it, i don’t care about the amount you already have, but i dont’ want it on every aar build
It’s rather fitting comparison as it is straight damage upgrade you deny me of.
On the contrary, your comparison with Callidor’s Tempest is completely outrageous and irrevalantbecause i am not talking about different skills being same in damage, i am talking about a certain skill with certain damage type being granted same possibilities other damage types of same skill have. Nothing more and nothing less.
It’s quintessential to shoot the thing that’s straight in front of you. I don’t mean that you as a player can’t aim, I mean that it conveys that this fantasy arcanist can’t.
you’re not, it’s not a dmg upgrade it’s an AoE upgrade, there is 0 single target dmg increase from extra beam, so it’s pure aoe; and that’s what makes Callidor example apt; it’s a pure aoe skill that you can go of
not every AAR needs more aoe, but more importantly they don’t need more aoe the same way…
ye, but, that’s what i mean, you can, even with 2 beams?
I think we have said enough. The guy will come with literally opposite position to anything we say and i will not reply to his posts further.
I suppose i have made my point, a lot of people like topic-starter agree 2 beams are ugly and they want more accessibility of 3 beams and/or reduction of 3 beams.
I am saying i put non-aether damage medal with 1 beam instead of aether damage medal and saw 10% dps increase in AAR and he keeps saying DPS is not increased.
It does not make sense to involve in any further discussions, i think, when people simply ignore the facts they don’t want to see.
ok, we have one Gnomish Inquistion willing to play AAR with 2 beams, happy to accept being gimped on aoe damage cover with aether AAR and fire AAR comparing to pierce, chaos, physical, cold, lightning and vitality enjoying three beams - just for the sake of being different.
And we have 19 people asking to remove possibility of 2 beams by mulitple proposals (+2 beams on all items, +2 beams on all items with cap of 3 beams, adding +1 beam on normally used items for fire (Mark of Ulzuin) and aether (Fleshwarped Tome).
