Ressources far away from the city

After trying several maps, I find that there is one thing that does not work very well: Sometimes a resource (fish, game, different plants) is very far from the starting location. If I place the required building near the resource, the yield is ridiculously low due to the distance the building worker has to travel. And if I put the building near the city and put the collection circle on the far resource, the yield is so low that it’s useless too.

I thought about it and came up with this solution (we’ll see if the team will remember this or not): The wood and stone gathering building is a useless thing. Sending workers to pick up wood or stone is much faster. So my idea is to transform this lumberjack building into a building that collects resources from hunting, fishing, fruit and fields. Like the carts that fetch minerals to bring them back to town.

You need to put a temporary shelter near the far off item. That way the worker has a place to grab food when hungry. The shelter is stocked by the wagons.

I tried this solution. Without success. The fisherman returns to town to deposit his stock and then crosses the entire map to return to work. In the end, he spends 90% of his time traveling.

I love these buildings.

I am also playing with building “outposts”. This is my current attempt. the only issue I am having is it appears that the workers don’t go to the closets storage facility first. sometimes they do sometimes they don’t.

You must be extremely patient.

It does reduce the time he has to return to town to get food. But the problem is you are putting a fisherman that far from town. Why even bother?

Because I want a fishing village. The game does not work this way. I cry. To be fair if you are careful you can find ways around how the game works to have most flavours of satellite village except farming.

Fisherman was a exemple. Not a real situation I’ve had.

In fact the situation that I experienced with several maps is the following: No game and no lake in the area explored during the creation of the map. And with only plant collectors, they starve very quickly (berries rot quickly) because the time to build a field (5X5) we are in winter. So no berries to go until the first harvest from the field.

I dont want a fishing village. I want the villagers to survive the first winter and until the first harvest from the field.

Oh, that’s unusual, have you been playing on arid maps?

No, it was plain with default mode.

Hmmm, the only tip I’ve got then is to remember that if you build more fields (as in 2 or 3 5x5 plots) but then disable work on all but the one you want right now you will get multiple farmers so your first plot will be finished faster, since only farmers can complete the tilling action. If you are lucky you can get a few turnips in before the end of year 1. The plains sound brutal - I’ll stick to random. Good luck!

I hadn’t thought of that. Put several fields and stop them, except one, to have more people to build it. Thanks for the tip.
