How do you manage to build those beautiful, smooth curves in the roads?
Actually, it’s not very difficult. You build a straigth road piece (which you can delete later on). If you then start building a second road from the tip of that road, this second road will arc around. If you connect it to the tip of a third road, it will finish there with an arc. Two roads aligned 90° (as in my first screenshot) will then give a quarter circle. You can also have 45°, 180° and so on. Or, you can have any kinds of combinations, for instance connecting two opposite road tips (my second screenshot). The arced road will always bend towards the straight road. Feel free to experiment a bit there. ![]()
with 1.1 free build, it’s a hard mission to to relocate the buildings now or i’m too lazy to start a new game ![]()
Summer in Langhalla
I recently purchased the game, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Taking it slow and learning along the way. Langhalla is in Teir 3 and growing/surviving well.
Looking through this thread, I can only imagine that I have a lot more to learn and explore.
Nice job everyone and thanks for all the ideas and insights.
Presenting: Twenty-Seventhville (because I’ve made so many towns now that I can no longer come up with names…)
Pacifist Lowland Lakes town with around 1050 residents. Been working on this since v1.0 came out last fall (it’s been… busy). As a challenge, I wanted to design the town around main corridors that extended from the city center at 45 degree angles - this was before we knew free build was coming! Finally at a place where I’m ready to share - and finally move on to a v1.1 town where I can experience true freedom.
City Center
SW Quarter
NW Quarter
Overview of NW and SW Quarters, the main residential areas of the city. There’s a residential area in the SE Quarter as well, but it is… less developed.
Spent some time developing and designing larger park/altar areas within the residential areas. It was challenging to do with the 45 degree angles of the main roads, but it made me think outside the box!
And then some various shots of the countryside. Not showing you my industrial areas because… they are a mess.
Nice map. What’s the map type, map seed and size?

There are so many great creations and ideas in this thread.
I am still in my first playthrough of a village and still learning things, but it has been fun as well as a struggle at times. Thought I would pop in a show y’all some things around Langhalla.
Langhalla … Otherwise known as “The Big Sleepy”
Idyllic Valley - Pioneer - Large Map
Currently 150 Years, just advanced to Teir 4
680 Villagers - (670 Very Happy,10 Happy)
I can start by saying that Langhalla earned its name as The Big Sleepy because it is not a fort nor is it a huge metropolis. It consists of four districts that are sort of spread apart with some countryside rather undisturbed between them. They are close enough to support each other, but it gives the map a natural feel. In ways it can cause problems while in other ways it can be a benefit in my experience so far.
Each district consists of a settlement that supports 24 houses. They all have bakeries, cheese makers, apothecaries, markets, pubs, shrines, hospitals, a vault, and rat catchers. They each also have storage hubs at crucial points and a commercial sector that contains weavers, candle makers, and cobblers.
Storage Hubs
Storage hubs are at locations where they can be shared by settlements, while keeping resources spread out. They are on main roads or at bridge heads.
Industrial Sectors
Industrial Sectors are positioned outside of the settlements and closer to the resources. They contain all the nasty stuff you don’t want to live nearby. ![]()
Commercial Sectors
Commercial sectors contain all the venders, are found between the settlements and the ranches fields, or industrial sectors on the main roads that lead into the individual settlements. In short, if a villager doesn’t work in the commercial district, they still pass through it to get home.
Way Stations
Since everything is so spread out I do not have any Work Camps. What I do have is Way Stations along the main roads and in the borderlands. Laborers selectively cut timber that makes its way back to Storage Hubs, or the Storage Cart if I have one on site. I have a lot of Hunters and Foragers as well. Plus, with some villagers working far from home, all the Way Stations also have Temporary Shelters that see a good bit of use in the winter months.
Maybe at some point I’ll share some awesome stories about what has happened in Langhalla and all the struggles I have created or encountered. I’ll pop back in with a picture or two of the Memorial Battle Park and Cemetery I’ll be constructing on the site of the Iron Mountain Battlefield where I lost close to half of my villagers (of working age) at one point.
Right now, Langhalla is doing fine. I have food squared away to 11 months in storage and I month spoilage. I spend as much at the Trading Post as I make to control the labor pool, although it is well into the millions by now. I have wiped out the Tech Tree and earned 32 achievements in my first stab at the game, but only recently constructed the Civic Monument.
Y’all have fun, I sure am, and have a lovely day!
…
Edit:
As mentioned, and in celebration of Langhalla’s Sesquicentennial I came back to add a screenshot of the “Blood Makes the Grass Grow” Memorial Battle Park and Cemetery constructed on the actual battlefield where the Iron Mountain Battle took place.
The hunters and personnel that guided the opposition around the south side of the Great Eastern Lake bought enough time for Langhalla to eventually be victorious in a costly battle in the shadow of Iron Mountain. Few goods and resources were lost, but the price was paid in the blood and lives of 98 hunters, villagers, militia and soldiers when Langhalla only supported a population just over 400 total.
Never seen someone make a storehouse look so good and inviting. Great job.
Thanks, and that is one of the great things about the game and large maps.
“Space to move” allows all kinds of different options in everything from building and development to combat. Langhalla, doesn’t currently have any “murder hole” options that rely on a strong centralized defensive posture. Currently, I use time, space and natural barriers to influence combat. That will probably change at some point, or my villagers may suffer more than they already have under my poor leadeship.
It’s been a learning experience. ![]()
On pacifist mode:
My second attempt at building a cityscape rather than just cramming as many houses into market range as possible. Didn’t really plan out the industrial area and it’s kind of slum-like. Unimpressed with my farm plot decisions - but every new game is another learning experience. The efficiency of my smokehouses went to pot after incorporating a second fishing colony & a late-game chicken coop (for eggs for pastries). Having the wheat fields closer to the granaries would have been a fine idea. All in all, still my best build yet.
