Sounding the town alarm during a raid should recall all citizens

Every time my city is under attack from raiders and I hit that town bell, everybody just goes about their business. They go out to harvest crops, cut down trees, even just walk in nature and ponder their existence.

Only a few citizens by the town hall run to garrison. That bell should send all citizens retreating for their homes. Otherwise, why have that bell at all? Citizens should be recalled and prevented from regular business when the bell is sounding.

It is supremely frustrating having to select groups of moron citizens heading straight into raiding forces and making them move across the map to an open field and out of danger. I lose more citizens to this stupidity than to actual battle. This is the number one rage quit I have with this game.

I think it’s the range, only those inside the alarm range run into the Town Centre. Perhaps a new building, the bell-tower, no gold cost, you’d have to click on each one just like Lookout and Guard Towers, good thing only those in it’s range would flee, villagers on the other side of a raid would continue unaffected. I previously suggested having Markets have this ability.

Only enough to fill max capacity run to the Town Centre

Citizens literally walk past the town center which is under alarm to go outside the walls to mine ore or chop trees. There is no signal for citizens to stay put while the city is under attack. I have to select citizens streaming out of the city walls headed directly into incoming raiders on the road. It’s infuriating.

Do we know how many citizens fit in the town centre?

It would he nice if the temporary shelters had a tier 2 that semi fortified them and could be stocked with weapons for nearby citizens to use in a raid and would work like the town centre with citizens firing arrows out

Something like that would be good. Maybe we can make mini forts, with weapons inside and put a tower bell on it. To get the citizens inside within a certain range.

I’d like to see if permanently manned, like the towers and if within a certain range of the town centre, that person automatically triggers the alarm when the main town centre alarm is rung

I’m pretty sure it’s 20, because tiny villages can all fit inside, but that pretty quickly stops being the case by tier 2. (20 would actually mean it’s never the case in tier 2, but I tend to grow that part too quickly to have many data points.)

I usually right click garrison anyone outside the walls rather than ringing the town bell. It would be kinda nice if ringing the bell called everyone back from outside the town walls, but I think that might be impractical on the development end.

I also tend to disable workplaces outside the walls when a raid is incoming, though that doesn’t always call the villagers back by itself.

I am so glad others are as frustrated with this asinine aspect with the game as I.
-When I still had hope for this game, I did put up idea about “castles” (towers being integrated into walls). These defensive structures should be the place villagers run into.

But no, idiotic walking towards stronger raiders, while villagers are clearly nerfed so that they cannot even defend themselves.

Yeah I also think the number of villagers the town center can garrison really should increase as it upgrades. But the bell probably should send any that can’t fit in the town center back to their homes, so they’re inside the town walls, as they would be in real life if their town was under siege.

Ringing the alarm bell should really have all the villagers who can’t fit in the Town Center, return to their homes and seek shelter.

Considering how flattened my town got a little while ago that wouldn’t help them at all.

They need to either all fit into the TC (difficult I know, but it is a video game, not rl) or grab some weapons and fight for their town alongside any soldiers, guards, etc.

Well at least some of those crude weapons would get used, right?

What if there was some kind of Shelter building? Stores a certain amount of villagers when bells are ringing, but doesn’t supply them weapons. Can be upgraded for more durability and storing more villagers. Has a smaller, less resource intensive option for villagers a distance away from the settlement.
Not so appealing to raiders just looking for loot, but raiders more looking to send a message will value them to some point or another.

That way you can put villagers in a more fortified position for safekeeping, get a greater sense that your Guards and Soldiers are protecting the villagers, and have some greater stakes when the more bloodthirsty raiders come in.

I like this. Or even an area of refuge defined from the town center (like a work or grazing area) where villagers can wait while the bell is ringing. With current setup we spend a lot of time sweeping loose villagers out of the battle front, and if you aren’t careful with the multi-select you can accidentally empty out watchtowers/town center/military buildings.

My town will starve before the raiders finish if everyone goes to the town hall. I do like the idea of towers offering temp shelter and additional arrows up to maybe 5 additional arrows and 10 pop. But only when raiders approach the tower, otherwise… again we starve.

So, when the raiders move in the area of the tower villagers start running toward it for safety and when full toward TH. If you have a pop of 2k and everyone moves away from their production the effects on economy is huge!

How about ringing the bell at the watchtower? It is not realistic for all citizens to evacuate. So, I think it would be a good idea to add a bell function to the guard tower so that citizens can evacuate around the guard tower. Of course, in the second half, if enemies come from all directions, you will need to ring the bells in all the guard towers so that the citizens can evacuate.

Raiders will bypass anything which is turned off, except storage facilities.
