Spear of the Heavens - Post your opinions?

I personally prefer to go with Spear of the Heavens on all of my Lightning builds including the final skill, it’s on-hit nature is perfect since in some builds i am lacking skills to bind devotions to.

I do however see many of you completely skipping out Spear or not taking the final skill.

I agree it’s weaker than the other tier-3 devotions. But is it really that bad, if so then what do you guys suggest?

My proc-ative sorceress using it. I’d say that the Spear of Heaven itself is not seems to be powerful worthy Tier 3 constellation. [and near constellation like Aeon’s hourglass seems not to be worth picking for me too.]
But after I use it first time. I was addict to it because it make me feel so good and I like the animation effect. So that’s all. I never made suggestion to it, but if anyone want it to be better. I want to help.

I usually use it as auto procs for “on attacking” or “on critical hit” like agrivix malice, rings of elemental balance, anastasia devastation and one procs from warpfire. (anyway I also have Vindictive flames and Ulzuin’s wrath too an those works more frequently lol)

About current performance. I found it 50% chance when hit is rather unworthy. Even 100% chance when hit is not worth for risk myself tho. I’d like to see more suggestion too.

I’ll vote Buff it and change it’s activation to “On Attacking”. I also do like the concept that heaven get revenge for me when I was hit. It would be good too if it’s “When hit” with an effective result.

I fail to see the logic when people say On-Hit procs are risky. Last time i checked you get hit no matter what and you get hit a lot.
Unless you’re running 3k DA you get hit by the bosses and SoTH procs very frequently against them

I do agree it could use a buff

I’d like to see some kind of buff to it. Maybe the stun is overvalued, but since you have no control of when or where it hits it is not very useful.
And the only time you are in 1vs1 situations it is against someone that won’t be stunned.

I like the animation and there are so many “on attacking” procs already it is hard enough to incorporate everything in many builds without having too many buttons to press.

“At least when I get hit. It don’t help me survive longer, but I see the point that it’s offensive procs. So even 100% on hit activation. It’s still not effective as Tier 3.” I want to say this. Sorry I explained it to get you wrong point I’d like to mention.

Pretty much my opinion about it’s on-hit nature being good

I wouldn’t mind if stun was changed to fumble

In a crowd it’s really pointless even if it procs in a pack of rage hulks stun won’t be useful. Fumble is something that’ll affect bosses.

Hmm you bring an interesting point of survival. Yes on hit procs usually help you with survivability. I think fumble or impaired aim should add to effective survivability. Or am i overestimating those stats?

I was thinking about fumble or impaired aim too, but I’m not sure about will it be OP or make something have too much sustain without flashbang.

It is something if give too high chance, it’ll make a char nearly unkillable by those low cooldown procs. Or too low chance, it is likely get nothing.

So I think I should figure it out that if it will be useful when hit procs, which scenario it’ll be. More effective in CC or 1vs1 bossfight? should be mention first.

I prefer crowd control more cuz I see most builds don’t have many problems in boss fight. If crowd control buff I think getting AoE and knockdown are interesting (I don’t know what to do with flesh hulk other than kill them fastest or use flashbang to confuse/fumble them)

Hmm, yeah most builds don’t have problem with Bosses.
How about increasing impact radius of skill?

I think about 2 of these possibility.

  1. Old triggering and work the same.
Buff at impact radius, increase size of lance and increase landing speed then stay the lance shape light a bit longer. To make it feels like “BAMMM!”

The target who get shot take 100% crit with +X% crit dmg and stun.
Around target Y radius take dmg and knock back from the target for short duration.

  1. New triggering (Maybe lower A% health, B% when hit)
This will be like rain of spear/meteor shower of spear. When you hurt, seraphim army from the heaven get revenge for you. Throwing the heaven lance at the foes blah blah.

X duration
2X cooldown
Random target enemies in Y radius around you get hit by heaven lance, may shot 3-4 lance per sec. Work mostly like those meteor shower and devastation but “Random Target” instead of random area and only around you. Making it viable for single target and different from those rock falling from the sky randomly.

PS. It’d be great if animation effect of falling lance like this

Pics from DOTA2, skywrath mage ultimate w/ immortal items.

I can live with the way it activates, but it really needs more oomph.

It sucks. Crap damage, crap aoe, crap everything. Really needs a big buff to be worthy of a T3 constellation (then again, some other T3 constellations suffer from this).

Currently you can spend a devotion point on something better. Like the Crossroads nodes.

Good ones-

Whirlpool, Meteor Shower, Tainted Eruption, Blind Fury, Healing Rain, Hungering Void

Decent ones that need buff-

-Spear of the Heavens (damage is a little low, low CC)

-Abominable Might (Just change the triggering factor, conversion is an important tool and “On Death” triggering wastes the potential of the skill imo)

Bad ones that need big buff or revamp-

-Time Dilation (Went from outright broken to outright useless)

-Stone Form (I’ve used it, the extra armor and absorption are redundant, give us %physical resistance and even more retaliation damage)

-Light of Empyrtion (Long cooldown, low %weapon damage, low activation chance)

-Elemental Seeker (seriously this entire constellation is like the Turtle of tier-3)

Undecided-

-Howl of Mogdrogen (Little experience with bleed builds, seems decent to me)

-Living Shadow (don’t usually take it, prefer blind fury)

This is obviously just my opinion

Living Shadow sucks too. Well, i only used for a little while and barely leveled it. Unless it gets awesome near max level because if it doesn’t, it sucks then.

All Abominable Might needs is to have a different activation trigger. Like on Attack or Crit. Maybe 15% on Attack or 33% on crit.

Maybe make Spear of the Heavens drop more spears as it levels up, maybe 3 at once at max level. Also increase the AOE and weapon damage.

Empyrion sure loves getting hit, doesn’t he? The spear that he used to smite Ch’thon plus his “Light” ability both depend on getting hit.

For supposedly the greatest of gods he doesn’t seem very proactive. Probably explains why he’s absent during Grim Dawn.

Lore notwithstanding, I’d like to see Spear do tons more damage with a longer cooldown and be based on chance on attack.

Hmm, like i said little experience with shadow to comment

Same opinion about Abominable Might

Great idea for SoTH

It’s not useless. For some reason most people just don’t know how to use it effectively.

Isn’t this the part where you explain how to do it?

besides from those sorry for disrespect TRASH constellations and cost of reaching there, what triggers me so hard in GD is

AETHER + LIGHTNING constelllations, i mean seriously WTF ? and WHY?

i mean maybe lore wise or whatever the reason aether and lightning has some story in game lore dont know but,
why the hell, best lightning constellations has aether dmg aswell meanwhile ONLY synergy in these 2 dmg types is prm and simply nothing else… i simply see no reason about this…
is empyrion made some sorta contract to slay cthon with aetherials or someshit ? w/e

last 2-3 days , when i deeply look in GD all i see is poor itemization, poor constellations designstill not bad, limits players and builds sooooo hard.

pls dont make me start about talking living shadow, 15 + 8 constellations* 8 order sux*, supppppppppper trash dmg output and such… but still my fav constellation in game so far lol

There are items that help us synergize Aether and Lightning now, it can be improved through better itemization

An Aether Lightning Melee Build ^

If you think Decree makes things too easy then wait a few hours i’ll post my other Aether Lightning Build which doesn’t use any such conversion

well bro, dont get me wrong i find you creative and your guides are quite good, but you always kinda advertise&link your guides is a bit dont know how to say, weird to me  take it as a friendly crictise

and that was not my entire point.

aether needs some help in this game tho thats another topic.

i just find those aether&lightning brothership in constellations is quite disturbing to my arpg understanding… dont know how to describe but its inefficiency is beyond godlike all i can say…

  • aether needs 1 more class that support that dmg type else arcanist
  • aether needs its OWN constellations not those weird aether&fire or nonsense aether&lightning ones

and seriously, ARCANE BOMB needs to change A.S.A.P…
in 2017, where nearly all arpgs are so fast, and you got swarmed by mobs insta in GD or any other arpg games
a RR skill with 1 sec rearm timer has no place. period.

i would talk day&night about any aether builds, and other constellation designs and such… but w/e i guess we should put more feedback and info for devs before new patch so we might get some tweaks about GD.

ps: try to get good roll new aether axe drops in valbury flesh hulk boss, if you get really good roll they are BIS for most melee aether build you wanna create… i have 1 godly roll if you need let me know mate
