Spoiled meat... again

How is this storage too far?? And why do they bring in fresh meat and not smoked?? People complain about food shortage, but I have 3 hunters, 2 fishermen 2 smokers and 2 root cellars. Ontop of that I get nuts and greens, eggs all that from 3 foragers but somehow it’s not enough. I can’t wrap my head around this. How many smokers do we need to have? Or is that even the problem…

I also have a solution here: hunters and fishermen dry half of their produce with or without salt themself.

Why is there no salt in the game?

I feel like the smokehouse worker produces very short amount of food. You dont have how to measure that, but its visible the difference between what you catch/hunt vs. What they produce.

I’m wondering if they get too much fresh meat that they don’t have the time, or if the storage becomes full and the hunter takes it directly to the root cellar, and when the smoker is getting the new batch of fresh meat, they don’t get it from the cellar.

It might be that the travel distances are too long for the smokehouse worker to keep up. He generally picks up meat from the root cellar and firewood from the stockyard. If both those are very far away he spends more time walking than smoking. If you move your smokehouse roughly where the red icon is, productivity might skyrocket.

This one also just ran past the smoker, straight to the root cellar and 10sec later I get 35 spoiled meat again.

If a granny runs with 1 clay from the other side of town, then this can’t be too far.

Guess I have to build another root cellar next to the smoker.

Ill try moving the smokehouse

I’m think there would be a massive need for a storage for only firewood, something that takes up 1 or 2 grid spots, that you can put next to shelter locations, so that the wainwright can stock up those instead of everyone running to the stockyard, which I like to keep near the industrial area. Or then a cart drives to everyones houses and makes sure they have firewood, drops off a stack somewhere.

So here’s what I did:

Had 2 root cellars, 1 closer into town and 1 farther by the smoker.

The one at the smoker I unticked smoked meat, and the one closer to town I unticked fresh meat, so that the one closer to the smoker would get only fresh meat and the one in town would get the smoked meat.
Still meat is spoiled, and if I remove a hunter, then they will complain about food shortage. :L

What I tend to do is place the smoker right next to the root cellar that accepts both meat and smoked meat. That way the smoker only has to run back and forth for the firewood (which is probably 15 at once) and then barely has to walk back and forth for the meat. One smoker’s hut can easily do 900 smoked meat a year, which should be enough for at least 2 hunters.

well, things worked out for now… onto the next issue!

I agree with @FinHermit, watch your smokehouse and see if the storage capacity is exceeded for fish and meats when the hunters and fisherman bring more to smoke if it’s at max capacity they will default to other storage options.

HOT TIP: Set one smoke house to only meat, and one to only fish, also increase your production ratio of the type one you choose, this helped me with not only the quantity smoked but also the more manageable delegation of who’s doing what.

My smoker guys just ran across town for meat, even tho a hunter closer to them had plenty in store. Now they are exhausted and work rate is declining…

We need to be able to connect certain instances, or set an area they work at, and don’t run 10 miles for a few pieces of cod, not for any reason.
