SPOILER ALERT: Lore Discussion

  1. Sacrifical Altar in Korvan Sands is related to 3. Sacrifical Altar in Temple of Ateph is for the the main quest given by Byscilla in Vanguard of the Three, if you chose to ally with Bysmiel’s Cult.

  2. There are 3 lore notes that are granted as Quest rewards when you reach Shard 5 (or 15, don’t remember exaclty), Shard 25, and Shard 50 of the SR.

  3. Two new superbosses :

  • you summon Callagadra by placing a Celestial Essence on the Altar in Korvan Sands. Celestial Essences have a 100% droprate from a special red and black runic chest that spawn in several different locations each time you create a game session.
  • Crate of Entertainement is at the end of the secret Crate Quest. There’s a very well-made playthrough made by Dikkiedik around there, check the Guide section of the forums.
  1. No, you can actually find the Maw in a secret area east of the Korvan Sands rift, and report your discovery to Carmac. The secret area also contains a little urn that drop a unique blue helm. After a while, Carmac will disapear, and leave a note beside the Maw.
It is speculated that there is a way to enter the Maw, maybe something to do with several strange blue items that can be obtained during the Crate Quest, maybe. Could also be linked to the “Maw of Apesh” area on the FG’s map, since no-one has been able to go to this area as of now.
All this could be the famous last Zantai secret that not even playtesters have been able to find. So many mysteries!

  2. Debatable. You do banish the Messenger, and kill Kymon and Korvaak (if such an entity can even be killed). The way I see it, you just take care of a loose end after allowing the Chosen to help you defeat the Loghorrean. After all, Kymon tries to awaken Korvaak even if you choose Death’s Vigil.
As for closure, I don’t really agree, I mean, Uruboruuk also doesn’t get much, and the Vigil even less. In both cases, I think we got enough, yes, more would have been nice, but the core of the expac is dealing with Korvaak.

Plus, there is a nice nuance during the Quest you unlock by allying with Bysmiel’s Cult and reaching Honored woth them : you have to track down a group of Chosen that fled Kymon because they realized he lied to them, and take back a relic from them. And you can actually talk them into giving the relic without fighting. This, imho, cements the fact that the corrupted Chosen that you fight when attacking Korvaak, the ones that renamed themselves Chosen of Korvaak, were aware of the deception and still decided to go through with it. So you don’t kill other Kymon’s Chosen, you kill people that went too far.

Also, I’ll still point toward Archon Barthollem for proof that Empyrion’s powers can still be used. Korvaak is corrupted by eldritch energy now, and his servants are corrupted too. Followers of Empyrion remain “pure”.
