So went into the expansion with my Harbinger Pyromancer next and naturally chose Solael.
Ho-boy, now I know why there are so many Solael cultist in the camp. Solael is quite big on chaffing the weak from the strong and all that.
So question is, am I missing out from important quest if I kill anyone? My first two choices were pretty obvious - the creepy stalker Ricardo and “Don’t bother me I am super important” Harrold. As for third I chose Vikon, the guy who wants to pick a fight with you anyway - even if you allied with the Order.
I have been telling that for a while now.
They couldn’t have been the same, since if Ch’thon was IN the Void, and Yugol as we know devours EVERYTHING…
Then the Dead God would be not even dead, he would NOT be.
Ch’thon does not want to destroy everything -he wants his life force back so he may live again. Heck he even creates things to accomplish this goal, like the various Ch’thonian fiends.
Also, check what I attached. The whole Yugol thing really reminds me of Unicron’s myth from Transformers comics - he is the embodiment of entropy, of emptiness. He exists to devour all that nothing else might exist in the universe. And in Unicron’s case, he already did it once and destroyed everything, but that pesky life started again despite all odds.
Could you please tell me how the lore changes, depending on who I chose — the Kymon’s Choosen or Order?
And what will happen if I go to fulfill the storyline of the Forgotten Gods immediately after the first act and do not choose Kymon or the Order?
When you get the achievements of getting more and more into the shattered realm endless dungeon, you get notes. That notes reveal some stuff. It talks about the end days of another city: Ralyoth and how killing their Gods condemned them.
My theories are:
The shattered realm are the remains of the previous worlds. Worlds without light and devoured.
The Gods are the only thing that maintain at bay the devourer. Maybe Chthon was the only survivor of another group of gods and that’s why he didn’t want to share the knowledge/blood to create. You must be careful to dont wake up the devourer. Maybe Cairn isn’t the tomb of Cthon but the tomb of his former comrades.
When Chthon was killed and the winner used their light for the creation they woke up Yugol who was sleeping. Like the scene of Hell Boy one where they summon the Squids and they were frozen floating in space. The light woke up Yugol and said “new food”
Maybe the Aetherials are the survivors of a previous world or the army (created and discarded by another God) that was used against Yugol.
The WG took the power of Korvaak but maybe they condemned Cairn. They divided Korvaak´s power and they are weakened gods against Yugol.
Anasteria says they were servants created to help form creation, and were stripped of their physical forms and banished to Aether Realm for simply following orders of their gods in WoG.
Now about War of Gods: Korvaak was against side that used Void powers and he hates chthonics, then what about Aetherals? Were they part of force that used void powers and then were discarded by them or they were on side against which Void powers were used? So they were with Korvaak? Or there were more than 2 sides in conflict?
I saw stuff about the Shattered Realm mentioned. I don’t recall any lore notes being dropped inside the realm. Can someone point me in the right direction? I just started exploring the realm btw.
How do you summon the new Super Boss?
One Bysmiel cultist is interested in knowing about the Maw of “Something”. Is this a quest you get when you side with the Bysmiel Cultists?
From my understanding of reading things so far the people who chose Kymon got screwed over completely cause their storyline isn’t given any sort of real closure and they are still essentially puppets of the Messenger. Is this the right take on things?
Sorry about these questions, normally I’d explore myself but these days I can’t find the time to do so. Appreciate the support.
Sacrifical Altar in Korvan Sands is related to 3. Sacrifical Altar in Temple of Ateph is for the the main quest given by Byscilla in Vanguard of the Three, if you chose to ally with Bysmiel’s Cult.
There are 3 lore notes that are granted as Quest rewards when you reach Shard 5 (or 15, don’t remember exaclty), Shard 25, and Shard 50 of the SR.
Two new superbosses :
you summon Callagadra by placing a Celestial Essence on the Altar in Korvan Sands. Celestial Essences have a 100% droprate from a special red and black runic chest that spawn in several different locations each time you create a game session.
Crate of Entertainement is at the end of the secret Crate Quest. There’s a very well-made playthrough made by Dikkiedik around there, check the Guide section of the forums.
No, you can actually find the Maw in a secret area east of the Korvan Sands rift, and report your discovery to Carmac. The secret area also contains a little urn that drop a unique blue helm. After a while, Carmac will disapear, and leave a note beside the Maw.
It is speculated that there is a way to enter the Maw, maybe something to do with several strange blue items that can be obtained during the Crate Quest, maybe. Could also be linked to the “Maw of Apesh” area on the FG’s map, since no-one has been able to go to this area as of now.
All this could be the famous last Zantai secret that not even playtesters have been able to find. So many mysteries!
Debatable. You do banish the Messenger, and kill Kymon and Korvaak (if such an entity can even be killed). The way I see it, you just take care of a loose end after allowing the Chosen to help you defeat the Loghorrean. After all, Kymon tries to awaken Korvaak even if you choose Death’s Vigil.
As for closure, I don’t really agree, I mean, Uruboruuk also doesn’t get much, and the Vigil even less. In both cases, I think we got enough, yes, more would have been nice, but the core of the expac is dealing with Korvaak.
Plus, there is a nice nuance during the Quest you unlock by allying with Bysmiel’s Cult and reaching Honored woth them : you have to track down a group of Chosen that fled Kymon because they realized he lied to them, and take back a relic from them. And you can actually talk them into giving the relic without fighting. This, imho, cements the fact that the corrupted Chosen that you fight when attacking Korvaak, the ones that renamed themselves Chosen of Korvaak, were aware of the deception and still decided to go through with it. So you don’t kill other Kymon’s Chosen, you kill people that went too far.
Also, I’ll still point toward Archon Barthollem for proof that Empyrion’s powers can still be used. Korvaak is corrupted by eldritch energy now, and his servants are corrupted too. Followers of Empyrion remain “pure”.
Okay good to know, thanks will power through when I get more time
Caldara was rather disappointing with the way it was summoned and the also due to the lack of back-story. I knew what I was getting into but didn’t think it’d be this bad.
As for the secret quest, it’s on my to-do list
4.Nice to see Crate pull out a Star Wars reference.
Interesting to hear that. As for Zantai’s last secret. I was under the impression that Crate of Entertainment was the secret.
As for Maw of Apesh, glad to see I wasn’t the only guy confused by it. It could very well be a new Closed Dungeon/Challenge Dungeon. You know when AoM was released, the area called Ancient Grove could not be accessed early on. Then it was revealed to be a challenge dungeon with some neat lore.
Agree with the Dahlia, Dravis and Uro plot-line really messing up the Order’s plot closing. But the Kymon plot seems screwed up. The guy who replaces Kymon is a Korvaak supporter, the Messenger can still be found in the study. At the very least Crate could have made Archon the New Light of The Chosen and kicked the Korvaak Supporters out for good.
Thanks for the quick response btw. Really helped me out a lot
I found one Crate-crate in the hidden room behind the Dreeg Vendor, a ghost warned me not to smash them. Was there only in ultimate and I am playing through the normal difficulties first so will be a time before I get there.
Btw, I only found I think 4 parts of the Korvan expedition journals… Was it revealed who the mysterious “babysitters” the benefactors sent with them were? This happened way before Kymon’s Chosen existed so they could not have been it, and the whole way they were caught reading arcane texts makes me think maybe the Aetherials were investigating this place too?
So, Vire is the mother of the gods? In the constellation it is mentioned that it is mentioned so in the Arkovian lore, but is it really so? And if so, is it possible that they betrayed her like Ch’thon and from his blood created life, and from her body Cairn itself?
I don’t think so, she’s not associated with the idea of Death like the Dying God is, on the contrary, she represents strudiness and vigor. Also, she’s said to be the Matron of the Gods, not the Mother. I think here, matron refers more to a maternal figure, aka a female with a position of authority, rather than being a literal mother.
So, two things…
-In the Temple of Ateph, if you are not allied with Bysmiel (in which case you are sent there to summon and bind a gargoyle, and have to fight some animated statue guardians) you will see a Void Oppressor boss instead. You get a quest saying that the Bloodsworn corpses you found are familiar, but then you just find notes that these guys tried to summon this Oppressor after Thalonis’ failure and got killed. I at first thought these were maybe the Bloodsworn you freed from the Void in Act 6?
-In the Infernal Wastes you can meet some Kymon’s Chosen who disagree with Father Kymon’s choice and feel he betrayed them all by siding with Korvaak. I dunno if this happens only if you are allied with Kymon’s Chosen, but you can talk to them peacefully in that case. They were taken here as the most zealous of his Chosen, but once they learned “Empyrion” is really Korvaak, they turned back instead. You can offer them help and rift them back to Sorrow’s Bastion so they can warn the others.
After that, you get new dialogue with Brother “grumpy dude” Elluvius about Kymon’s betrayal. So does the dialogue change with the others, even the sister who opens the door to the Messenger. Sister Girra herself appears there and proselitizes to the others about the betrayal. Ultimately the Chosen are either in denial about Kymon, or shaken by his betrayal, but they all agree that despite this they will continue the fight against the Chthonian menace.
Sadly Miranok, Kymon’s replacement, refuses it all as heresy and continues to support him.
I dunno why this did not happen with my previous character - maybe unless you are on Revered with the Chosen, they will not appear?
I checked on Archon Barthollem, but he gets no new dialogue.
Given how he looks a LOT like the Oathkeeper skill that lets you summon guardians, I am wondering whether he really is sent by Empyrion, and not Korvaak.
That’s disappointing, at the very least the Kovaak Followers should have been purged from Sorrow’s Bastion.
I don’t recall anything like that in in Star Wars.
Btw, about the Star Wars worm in the dessert. I tried looking for its “other mouths” as Carmac mentioned it might be as large as the dessert itself. Couldn’t find it, however I noticed that there is a completely unexplored area on the map called Bonebleach Basin. I wonder if that’s got anything to do with it.
Also surprised that there were no Chthonians camps in the dessert. I thought they too were trying to investigate the same thing Uro was trying to.
Why Anasteria, Korvina, Creed and Ulgrim are unable to sense the threat like Korvaak? Where are the Chthonians which Uro spoke of during his journey towards Korvan?
Hi,Im new to this thread, but i’ve been lurking for quite some time. I just started the new dlc, and, after playing a pure soldier build since vanilla, i can’t help but wonder… wtf with the gods?
there are 2 or 3 that SHOULD have a say in this matter (aka grim daw+cthon’s return+korvaak’s return+wendigo’s return) who shine for their absence. I’m obviously talking about Oleron, the “Mr. Nice Guy” God, he is basicly Hercules, he should be looking for the common man (everyone who died so far, specially in the Black Legion). Even Mogdrogen showed his pretentious ass when we fixed his Wi-Fi antenna.
And the even more enrageing absence… Where the fuck are Vire and/or Menhir? If they are the embodiment of Cairn and protectors of the land/realm, they are getting a major invasion, and they/he/she don’t seem so eager to kick out any of the trespassers. I mean, even if they don’t interact with us directly (i mean Ulgrim, Creed and us, even Anasteria, we are the ones pushing the resistance foward), at least they should leave some sort of hint (like Urobrook did with his Titan).
I imagine that, if Crate wants to continue the story, they should show their faces(and fists) at some point. But there have been way to many crisis one after another for them to be so relaxed in their celestial couches. Oleron is somewhat understandable, he might be out there killing stuff without being noticed, but i find hard to believe that Menhir/Vire intervention would be so subtle. They are the very world itself, the land that is getting corrupted and torn appart. By this point the fist of Vire shoulded blasted the Conflagration to oblivion, at least. That place should feel like a gaping wound to a Primordial God of Earth.
Did i missed something, or they are really AFK since forever?
Menhir might have been either corrupted or dead OR better yet cannot come to the battle field as he/she is keeping Yugol at bay.
Vire, I have no clue what to make of her. I just know her from the constellation.
Btw what is the quest you get at Honored status for siding with Dreeg? The latest quest I did with them was to track down and kill a boss who was corrupted by the Mind Raper.
