SPOILER ALERT: Lore Discussion

Has anyone talked about Beronath yet? A lot of the flavor text mentioning Beronath seems to be outdated now after FoA. The Shard of Beronath component and the Beronath, Reforged sword for example mention that Beronath was slain. Anasteria’s quest for Kalis Ka states “While Beronath is long dead, its spawn still live.” Is this because people in Erulan thought it was dead? Did I miss something in the new FoA lore/dialogue? Or did the devs just forget smh

I was hoping for some dramatic story of that guy from Fleshworks, it was promising start

12th July 2019 stream:

"Any plans for the NPC found in the Fleshworks to make another appearance?

So his story is not going to finish with Forgotten Gods, his story is for things beyond. Which is more of a sequel."

Most definite hint we had at the time that eventually there would be a GD2.

Hasn’t anyone talked about the Riggs=Empyrion’s avatar theory yet?

I am reading Rion’s notes again, and I am wondering about the “Ascendants”. Rion mentions that this is not the first but the 12th Rahn, and his father was the 11th and so on. Can we perhaps deduce from this that they were somewhat like we are, the Taken? Except in our case a possession was what unlocked our abilities (similar to Diablo III’s Nephalem) in their case they got awakened/ascended by Korvaak? The texts mention they still lived for centuries. So likely Korvaak created a sort of nobility out of them to ensure they remain subservient to him as them inheriting the power depends on him.
That does make me wonder where they are now, perhaps the Witch Gods’ stealing of Korvaak’s power depowered them… though it did not do that to Ulzuin.

Also, who is Ulgrim, is he also an Ascendant? Maybe he is Oleron? He is on the Ascendant side of the constellations after all…

I doubt Empyrion is around anymore. Korvaak’s notes say Empyrion vanished and he cannot feel him anymore. I doubt he would have chosen to appear in his guise to Kymon if Empyrion was still around in some form.
I am pretty sure Riggs is not a regular human, perhaps he is an Ascendant. Maybe related to Korvaak in some way. Hmm, was it not Horran who is cursed never to die? Maybe that is who Riggs is. He wanted Morgoneth’s mirror to ensure it never falls in the wrong hands. He does not strike me as sinister.

Catching Up

Coming back to the game after a long time. I hadn’t even played the patch where Crate introduced Burrwitch Cathedral, Malmouth Sewers etc.

After almost 5 years of missed content, I’ve finally caught up.

FoA Expansion

The expansion was pretty good. I’ll create a separate thread to share my thoughts.

Alymira's Spawn

Can someone share the model of the Questing Beast? Or whatever Alymira’s demon spawn is called?

I’m just curious what it looks like up close. It looked like some sort of chimera. But, it’s hard to get a good look when you’re running for your life.

Cleansing Ritual

I find it interesting that Korvaak’s fire is able to contribute to cleansing Chthonic corruption. Makes me wonder whether this is something only he can do or if the Three Witch Gods can also tap into this power. On a related note, what we retrieved is Eldritch flame, but it’s different from the one used by Solael. Solael’s flames look something you’d expect to see in the Chthonic realm.

World Tear Entity

The dead Chtonic entity in the world tear, do we know what it’s called? Is it one of the beings killed in the Sorkar Saga?

Sorkar

Is Sorkar supposed to be Ulgrim? He’s not quite an ascendant but is pretty darn close and has extensive experience killing chthonic fiends. He also has a history of slaying fiends born out of Chthon’s body parts.

Wolves that ate the sky

I assume this is a beast of Yugol? Which would make things interesting since so far Yugol only managed to even get near Cairn because of Morgoneth.

Chasm of voices

Where is this place and what creatures are being referenced here?

The Dread

What’s the lore behind The Dread being so strong?

Crate added some lore for Calla after they introduced Tomb of the Heretic. It was a creature created/summoned by the Korvan Magi to combat the darkness of Yugol. Since the Korvan magi were quite adept with the arcane arts, I can see them being able to create/summon a really strong being.

In a similar fashion, I’d like to understand what makes The Dread so strong. Is it like a specific body part of Chthon like the onea faced by Sorkar?

Does anyone know what Garradia says when you choose to be hostile with Barrowholm? I’m always friendly with them for the augments and the one time I was hostile for the new scorv achievement I absently mindedly skipped through the dialogue :frowning: . Or is there a document somewhere with all the dialogue in the game?

As far as I remember she is kinda expecting you to go hostile with them.
This is confirmed when you side with them and she’s like "did you choose to negotiate with thieves? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: "

So when you don’t, you give her the fetish and she’s like “yeah ok cool, here’s the next thing”.

So, does this explain a lot too?!

The Sons of Eru , founders of the Erulan Empire, came across the Great Sea… Hmm. Could they actually be descendants of the Korvan people ?

If so, that would explain quite a lot—especially their worship of seemingly forgotten gods.

Emperian = Ran?
Atep = the Storm Serpent / Leviathan?

Maybe they didn’t just bring their culture with them when they crossed the sea—they brought their old gods as well, only under different names.

But then there’s Menhir

Who exactly is Menhir supposed to be?

Menhir = Korvaak, perhaps?

If that’s true, the Erulan religion might have much deeper Korvan roots than it first appears. What do you guys think?

Good catch. There’s another proof to this theory.

One of the potential Solael cult members claims to be a descendant of someone from the Korvan lands. Back in FG, I didn’t think much of it, but the lore of this expansion changes the way I look at that conversation now.
