SPOILER ALERT: Lore Discussion

The Order never goes around killing people they don’t agree with, my friend. I do not want to feel “one” with a group of asshole fanatics who deem themselves so righteous (ironically while following the wrong God) :stuck_out_tongue:

Kymon was the faction my first PC chose since I want their augments and gears. Had mixed feelings about them as they reminded me too much of hardcore religious people I’ve encountered in the past. My 2nd PC went for the Order and they were a breathe of fresh air. Mad scientist for the win!

Well that’s grim dawn for you it’s pretty grey I quite liked the Death’s vigil until I read about the lore notes of those Uro casted his spell of undeath upon everyone. The effects of a man watching his hands rot away with time unable to do anything about it. Stabbing themselves and suicide did nothing. It looks likely innocent’s were involved going by the lore text both leaders for the factions are scumbags in my opinion.

Plus doing the quest line it does not really “feel” like I am pushing back the cthonic threat. While with kymon purging dangerous people (necromancers) and purging the followers of Cthon and his monsters. Plus jumping into void rifts is fun!

Reading the keeper’s lines it seems they are just jelly Aetherials are making mockery of their powers.

Honestly all the the factions are various levels of buttfaces.

I personally just find Kymon’s chosen more interesting from a lore and story stand point and in context of the current threat via Cthon and Korvaak. It was the whole revelation at the end that finally got me interested in the lore and story for the game. Along with the outcast of course.

Who knows perhaps the PC might become empyrion’s true chosen? I mean his devotion powers still work. Also several lines with you disagreeing with Kymon that he is going too far and he has no idea what the primordial actually wants. He questions you if anyone else would have the power to defeat the threats facing the world and you can end the conversation that you will get strong enough to destroy all those threats. I just think the kymon chosen questline was overall more interesting. Plus there are various lines in the quest line which allows the PC to believe in empyrion also.

What made it even worse the first time I did it I was playing a paladin sort of character following empyrion since the devotion looked cool man the ending made my mouth drop my shock upon entering the room. XD

I am quite excited for the story to advance I do wonder a quest noted that the atherial that possessed you has re arranged your brain. I do wonder if they will tell us what exactly did the atherial do to us.

Yeah man, gotta love the story thus far. Grim and dark indeed. And more reflective of the real world where there is no truly good or evil existence. The level of suspense and seriousness is real in this game too, something that is sorely missing from Diablo 3 and hooked me up with this game right now.

One saving grace for Kymon is that he at least told us what he has done. I think he knew that he himself could not defeat this Korvaak and, thus, need some kind of back up plan, us the PC, in case things go really awry.

If you complete port Valbury quest offered by Anasteria you will have a conversation with her about the Aetherial that possessed you. Too bad she could not give much info about it but only that this Aetherial is definitely alive and well. The PC then vowed to find it - more suspense to look forward to right there!

TheBlackS > I see, the physical appearance.
Well, I guess it’s relevant.

As for why Mogdroen doesn’t do anything and etc, first he does some things (or rather he did in the past), and second, I don’t think that because he’s a god, he can do anything and everything right on time.
I mean, theoretically, yeah he’s a god and in a christian definition a god can do anything, but that’s not the case for all religions. Especially since on this virtual world they use polyteisme and each god as its own “realm” of action. Plus who knows what he does on other worlds ^^.

And the fact he couldn’t manifest because his shrine was corrupted seems also true.

You forgot the line ''show me the beasts that Mogdrogen spared from the hunt".

As for Oleron, i am confused whether he indeed is a God. He clearly wasn’t immortal. It’s just the guy was pretty desperate to kill himself and Death was like “Lol, no!”
So his recklessness is often perceived as bravery by those who call upon him before charging into battle.
I don’t think he actually has the power of a God. He just got ascended to the status of one.

And good point about deities generally not giving a fuck.
The only ones who seem to care a little are the Witch Gods and Chthon

I really want a choice to be able to join the bloodsworn, Chthon is only asking for what is rightfully his (assuming the story about his blood being stolen is indeed true). I see no reason for us to refuse this.

Well the thing about gods, at least the way i see it according to the games lore, is that if no one worships them, they have no power. Maybe that’s what happened to the forgotten god. People stopped worshipping him/her, so s/he lost her power, and was eventually forgotten.
As for the kymon’s or deaths vigil, i tend to go for the faction that gives me the gear i need for the build. If that was of no concern i would go for kymons. “Burn the wrong believers and smash them to the ground with divine fire!”

The order is sometimes a bit extreme, but I think that, in general, they are much better than the Kymon’s Chosen. They are always in pursuit of knowledge of magic, which is a good thing. They also want to help people, and necromancy isn’t necessarily a bad thing, since you can summon people who agreed to be sumonned, like Malkadarr. The problem is ‘locking’ people into a skeletal body that, despite not feeling any physical pain, can still suffer.

Stop harvesting blood and you’ll have more friend :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re right. Come give your lord and master a hug!! hides knife

Yup I forgot to mention that, it was off the top of my head. I got killed by Mogdrogen too many times I am so traumatized I don’t want to remember his name in dialogues

As for Oleron… that goes to show if a mortal is suicidal enough, he can rise to the rank of God, just for the lol!

Lol.

“Oleron, you have been chosen amongst the mortals. Come ascend to the realm of Gods and claim your rightful place among us.”

“I don’t care, just give me my wife and kids back!!” :stuck_out_tongue:

On a related note,
I’d be disappointed if our character gets promoted to the status of an ascendant. But it’d be awesome if we get to be Dreeg’s Eternal Servant

Speaking of which anyone know who Balrazar, Eternal Servant of Dreeg is?

In fact, I would like to see our PC get promoted to the rank of God just so that we can say “Screw you! You gods have screwed up big time, ain’t wanna join a band of losers!” then goes off to fix everything, live a happy life, have a normal family and die as a mortal.

Best ending ever.

Is there lore on nemeses other than Fabius and Moosilauke ?

Seems so sad people that seem so important to those factions haven’t got many things known about them.

My thoughts exactly.

An ingame beastiary would fix this.
Crate plz :frowning:

Plus there is the space for another tab in the Codex window. It’s like they’re taunting us.

I would love a beastiary!!!

I would also like more in-game lore to find in general - says the guy who made it a point to read every in-game book in Oblivion and Skyrim…

Wait, there are lores for those 2??? What did I miss?

There isn’t much but you can read it here.

So yesterday in the stream from Grava, Zantai mentioned about the new devotions in the upcoming expansion. He said:

The theme of the new t3 constellations is Arkovian Gods.
The five arkovian gods: Ultos, Ishtak, Vire, Attak Seru and Rattosh.

What i know is that:

Ultos is the god of the sky and lighting based.
Ishtak is the god of healing and blessing.

Wonder what lore comes with this and if they play a real part in the expansion. I also wonder if these Arkovian gods were all on the same side.
