Storage limits - bring the maximum is minimum is set

If a storage depot etc has both a minimum (>0) and maximum limit set for an item, and the amount of that item drops below the minimum, then laborers should bring the maximum amount. Talking specifically about when both minimum and maximum storage limits have been set.

This, for the same reasons that firewood splitter will produce firewood until the maximum production limit when total storage drops below the minimum production limit. It’s the same concept.

By setting a minimum, we’re saying “bring more when it drops below this amount”.

The purpose of having separate minimum and maximum values is to prevent a response for every single time someone takes an item from storage. It allows buffering, and then rectifying the shortage in bulk. This is the purpose for both production limits and storage limits, but it’s only implemented properly for production limits, not storage limits.

If both the minimum and maximum are set, then, if the laborers bring the maximum, then they optimize their time, bringing in bulk, and they will only need to bring again when the amount drops below the minimum. As it stands now, they bring enough to bring the amount to the minimum, which can be as little as one item, and then do this again every 5 minutes.

Actual in game experience: I have had terrible experiences with laborers walking far to bring 2 beans to fill a storage depot up to minimum, then the same laborer eats 2 dried fish from the storage depot before heading back, causing another laborer to come bring 2 dried fish, and he snacks on 2 beans while doing the delivery, causing another delivery of 2 beans and repeat infinitely.

But wont the storage depot immediately be full then, causing an “emptying” job if anything else gets added? Well, nothing else should be added. The player, by setting the minimum storage limit, is indicating that this item is incoming. I’m not saying the game should prevent more items being added, I’m saying the player knows based on where the building is that no more items would normally be added here - that this item is only consumed from this depot, not supplied. And even if it is supplied, having a new job spawned immediately when something else is added is better than all your laborers delivering items 1 at a time.
