Suggestion: Blueberry bush nerf

I know once you notice you will want to nerf them so here’s a preemptive suggestion.

Relocating bushes is a great feature, but currently also very abusable.

Please keep the feature,
but maybe start a lifespan timer once they are moved, so that berry fields don’t become a permanent food solution.
Or add a chance of destroying the bush whenever it is moved to disincentivise players from spending too much time managing bushes.
Or a combination of both.

Details below___________

With the attention to detail and realism you have i find it strange that the bushes wouldn’t have a finite lifespan like the fruiting trees do. The downside to this is the possibility of some players tediously replacing their bushes whwn they expire and neglecting to farm.

I think that could be avoided by adding a chance to accidentally destroy the bush whenever it is moved. This way the player might gamble moving semi close by bushes, but not ones further awayas it might just me a waste of time. But it would be necessary to make it obvious to the player anytime a bush is destroyed to make them aware of the deminishing returns.
Additionally, maybe tie this failure chance into the difficulty setting as a variable.

Note:
I don’t own the game yet. I’ve just seen Raptor create whole fields of them on yt and knew this wouldn’t make it into the full release as is and was afraid the entire relocation feature might get cut in the process of balancing. I’ve seen it happen plenty and it’s understandable.
The game is very promising, but I’ll wait and see where it heads to during development .

Mm, no we don’t plan to nerf them.

That mechanic is not as powerful as you think.

I’d be very happy if that is the case.

I know you have the dietary balance, food spoilage and harvest seasons that disincentivise an overreliance on just one type of berry. You’ve got a good system there, I know.

But I just saw a dude comfortably feeding 100 people with a 100 bushes and zero agriculture.
Basically hunter gatherers.

Now granted, he did start setting up agriculture at around 90 so I guess relocating bushes did become too tedious and the spring food shortages too discomforting.
But if nothing else then it’s a shame for him missing out on the depth of your agricultural mechanics for that long.

Also, it’s odd to have immortal bushes imo. I really struggle to keep my blueberries alive in my backyard, you know. It’s too good to be true I guess.

Anyway, thanks for the quick response.

where’s this option in the game? never saw it lol

Click on a Blueberry bush out in the wild and see.

lol… its only blueberries, now i got it, its because i have only one around xD

What’s abusable about them? I have like a 3x6 blueberries stack near a Harvester Hut and it’s great but it’s a supplementary food source mainly. And still my villagers manage to get Scurvy somehow.

I think in part the possibility of losing a bush while transporting should be there, as in life, if you transplant something, there is always the possibility of destroying it… also, if you move a bush, it should lose a bearing time period… whether to start the next year for bearing or second year after as it would need to acclimate to the new growing area. To pull a bush that has say 20 on it and have 20 on it right away when replanting is a little off… when you move a plant you should lose the fruit on it as the cost of transplanting it
