A bit like the temporary shelter, I’d like temporary storage depots to place in outlying farms etc - or even part way between the farm/mine/forager and the main storage depots. Then the workers can save time by putting their goods in those. Then the main storage buildings could have staff assigned to them whose job it is to go around the temporary stores in wagons picking up the stored items
Put the same idea in an other thread about a mini storage depot where you would put stuff, so that the wagons only have one place to go.
This way, remote foragers, fishermen, etc… would only go to this storage rather than return to town.
The temporary shelter could play this role as it is already receiving food to cope with the remote workers’ needs, it could serve as a temporary storage too.
You do not even need a new building, it is enough to add the possibility of setting limits for the storage of raw materials / products in warehouses and their priority, e.g. on a 10-point scale.
We have several woodcutters producing firewood next to each other and we want logs to be brought to the warehouse as a priority - lvl 1. In addition, we set a limit that there should be no more than 300 logs of wood. Everything is beautifully arranged. The rest of the logs go to the remaining warehouses which may have a priority of 2,3,4 etc. with a limit of e.g. 50 etc. So that when expanding the city, the raw materials are evenly distributed in the warehouses in different places so that the builders have less distance to walk.
When determining how much raw material is to be in a given warehouse, transport vehicles then have the perfect job to do to transport the raw materials to where we want them.
This is a description of the mechanics a bit from Rimworld, where you specified the size of the stock, what you wanted to stick to it, and what priority it had to stockpile.
Sory for my grammar, English is not my mother tongue
Not sure that would do exactly what I have in mind. The workers in the production facility would presumably fill their closest but limited capacity storage, then begin to cart their products to the main store. My idea was to stop the actual facility workers being distracted by that need, and have proper logistics workers appointed to the main stores to collect it for them, hopefully always freeing up space in the temporary holding areas.
Another alternative would be to mark buildings as “wanting” a given resource - if there’s resources in someplace that accepts but doesn’t “want” clay, wagoners would take them from the “accepts” storage to the “wants” storage
