Does the damage only scale with “Bonus to all pets” on items?
Or does it scale with normal damage increase of the specific pet damage type too?
F.e. “Briathron” if I stack “+ xy% Bleeding damage” on items or at devotion (Bat f.e.) does it increase the bleeding damage of Briathron?
.
.
.
And a 2nd question…can I see the total damage of pets somwhere (if I add "attack speed, % to all damage, etc…) for all pets bcs the tooltip always show the same damage even when I add items with all pet damage.
…would you recommend one player do the devotions as outlined, and the other player drop Tree of Life? Healing Rain hits the whole party so I am wondering what suggestion you have.
Thanks for all your effort into pet builds. I can’t wait to see both our Familiars proc Blizzard.
Hey there Maya. First let me thank you for time you put into your builds. Your guides and so forth have been absolutely fantastic for me (I am new).
Question though: Love that you added wind devil in there find them fun. What other filler skill should I use? I currently have primal instinct. What should I be “spamming” to get the little pets to proc? I know this is absurdly dumb question but I am not even level 100 yet (Just hit 94 yay!). I was using just fireblast because…Well I was new and dumb. But I need something with your “final” build to put on cleansing waters and I am at a loss what. I don’t want to give up the bonus of course that comes with seal of might. Right now got one point into evil eye for the proc alone really. I’m doubtful that is right.
Again, I am a newbie sooo kinda look over my silly question hehe. Learning the ropes!
This is actually super useful information. I’d add it to the OP because it seems to me like it makes the build way more engaging to play while maximizing the damage potential.
I have always thought that Grim Dawn does pets better than any ARPG ever because of the control GD gives the player over their pets. Your shotgun technique is a perfect example. Thanks for the build and the great control tip.
So as far as your leveling suggestions go, how do you generally decide when to put points into skills vs putting points into classes for stats? Should we be maxing familiar first? Just 1 point at a time while leveling classes? Maybe a 2:1 spread? I’m absolutely terrible at balancing that and normally end up making leveling far harder for myself than it needs to be. Just some recommendations would be appreciated, I don’t expect you to write an entire leveling guide That’s way too much to ask somebody to do.
[edit] Also, how does this build work? In theory the pets should be able to tank for you, I guess? However, enemies seem more than happy to ignore my pets existence. Am I wearing armor that somehow insults their parental lineage?
I have just started out this great build (using the beginner version) my self, and have no problems with with my pets not attacking, or mobs attacking me. Actually my pets melt most mobs before they get near me. I play on Veteran mode, and I am still only in act 1, progressing slowly as I have limited time to play.
If you have issues with getting your pets to attack, use the Pet Attack command as described by Maya above.
As for leveling, and point allocation, here is what I have done so far.
Pick Occultist first and put 1 point into Summon Familiar, Dreg’s Evil Eye and Curse of Frailty.
Max out Summon Familiar, 16 points
Put remaining points in Occultist mastery bar until level 10, and then unlock Shaman.
Start working on Shaman. Put points in Shaman mastery bar until you can get Briarthorn, 1 point.
Back to Occultist, get Hellhound.
This is actually where I am at the moment, and I feel very good at this point. Planning forward, here is what I plan for.
Occultist, get Storm Spirit and Lightning Strike, 1 point each first, and then max them both. Also put 1 point in Ember Claw for the Hellhound.
Shaman, get Ground Slam and Presence, 1 point each. Max out the Shaman mastery bar, and get 1 point in the remaining skills, Primal Spirit and Primal Bond.
Max out Occultist mastery bar, picking up 1 point in each remaining needed skill as you go.
Start building up points in remaining skills as you see fit.
To answer your first question damage generally only scales with “Bonus to all pets”. However auras and such that affect in a radius or stuff that give bonus damage to a particular skill that pets can use, etc do affect pets.
Barbaross Pants for example affect both the player and the pets when its proc activates.
As for your second question, I don’t think Attack/Cast Speed and such are factored into damage display. When it comes to tooltips and pets, the information is generally lacking. Best method to test out stuff atm might be to go a few rounds on the test dummies.
Reckless Tempest maybe? (You get 7-8 points after dropping Tree of Life + one Blue constellation)
Or go for a more defensive route with Harp + Arcane Barrier.
Or Widow for Arcane Bombs = Your Familiars go from killing machines to Terminators.
Or anything that tickles your fancy
glad that you like it.
Now, Both Curse of Frailty and Wind Devils should proc Primal Instinct.
We don’t use Cleansing Waters. It is just there for the… actually ty for reminding me of it. Because we are swapping it out for Solemn Watcher. More DA woot
Will add it to the OP
Only spend on stats to unlock the skills or if you desperately need them to equip and item or something.
Max Birb first! (Yes birb = familiar :p)
Go for Briarthorn next if you feel like you need a strong tank. Hellhound will also act as distraction.
You need something to proc Shepherd’s Call early on.
Curse of Frailty and Vulnerability are for the Resistance Reduction. Blood of Dreeg & Aspect of the Guardian are for the poison resistance and Heal. I will leave it to your discretion as to when to get them, but -%RR never hurts
You can if you want to, focus entirely on Occultist first and then move on to Shaman. Or get the Briarthorn early on for tanking and then forget about the Shaman side till after you have finished Occultist part.
Your primary goal should be to turn your Familiar into a killing machine while using your Briarthorn + Hellhound to tank for you.
As for enemies targeting you while ignoring your pets, you need more stylish clothes
But on a serious note, Ember Claw and Ground Slam helps take the aggro off of you. The other option is to follow the devotion path of the Main build (with Assassin’s Blade instead of Blizzard) so that you get Ishtak which helps with aggro by making your pets Taunt your enemies by insulting their mothers. But it reduces your offensive capabilities by a good amount.
First off thank you so much for all your guides and posts, super super helpful and got me off the ground in this wonderful game!
Going for your budget dodo (familiar) build and so far I’ve got this skill setup: Grimtools build ends in /Q2zOxdvV (note: not enough posts to post full link yet, RIP)
Wondering what I should max/how to allocate next 15-30 points. I rushed to get 3 pets before maxing out dodo…I liked the idea of summoning lots of pets and wanted to see the diff b/t the familiar/briarhound rather than just maxing dodo 1st. I’ve got a ton of +skillpoints to bysmael and emboldening atm and +3 to all occult.
Another Q: How do you have devotion points in Behemoth and Murmur? Looks to me like they’ve got a requirement for reds, but I’m not seeing where your prereq red points went to unlock them.
Any preferred order to unlock devotions going my budget dodo? Did FG make budget fluffy > dodo or vice versa?
First things first, put a single point in Ember Claw for the additional Threat thingy. It makes monsters target your Hound more.
Try to max Curse of Frailty + Vulnerability. Put some points in Briarthorn as well. Maxing it is a good idea.
Then Blood of Dreeg + Aspect of the Guardian and Storm Spirit along the way.
Prioritizing Primal Bonds is also a good idea since it provides alot of nice bonuses. Leave Primal Spirit for last.
As for the devotions, you can for example,
Take the Red Crossroads
Get 3 points in Jackal to complete it
You now have 4 Red points
Complete Behemoth for the extra 2 Red and 3 Green points (Total 6 Red points now)
Buy back the points from Jackal (Crossroads + Behemoth gives 3 red points)
Complete Murmur for another 2 Red and 2 Green points (Total 5 Red points now)
Buy back the point from Red Crossroads
I question Elemental Storm on Wind Devil. Wouldn’t it be better in any of the pet scaled pets? Wind Devil uses your OA because he’s player scaled, while pet scaled pets have their own OA.
There are faction specific quests and stuff, but you can still access the items, augments etc from all 3 factions and gain reputation with all of them.
I’ve actually been trying to follow your main build from the start, I know the naked one is likely easier but I like the devotion tree in your main build more. Hoping that isn’t going to bite me in the butt too bad
Just one small change then, get assassin’s blade. You might have to give up on either Blizzard or Tree of Life in turn, but that is only until you find the Weapon + Bysmiel’s set which converts pet physical damage into Elemental.
The reason why the devotion setup is different in the budget version is that when you lack for items, the Mogdrogen setup is easier to do damage with.
Regardless, you do find a potion as part of a quest early on when starting the AoM expansion that lets you reset all your devotion points. So don’t worry too much about that.
