The infinite scrolling feature SUCKS!

Just add page numbers like every other website so you can easily and reasonably navigate to where in the post you want. This current way sucks like a black hole. SUCKS!

It does slow down the searching hard. Sometimes I do search older threads and I just did that today, like 30 mins ago, and the loading is a pain. It was way better when we had to manually press another page, because you sometimes knew that something important was on page 2 and page 5, now you have to scroll down like an idiot and waste even minutes to find something. I’d also want the pages back.

can’t we just revert or keep the old UI as it was?

+1 to the pagination. Infinite scrolling is wrong.

I’d like to suggest we rename Rallia the witch to whoever made this wonderful new forum design, so I can burn them at the stake.

Not really…

Learn to use that search bar. It is WAY more useful than the old forums search.

So before you needed to remember page numbers, now you need to remember post numbers. Or, even better, bookmark posts you want to have easy access to so you don’t have to remember. It’s one of those little functions that make Discourse great.

Good news, Discourse is fully customizable, so if you know how you can code a UI that clones the old vB layout. Then convince Crate to use it. Done :scorv:

I’d like to see what I am writing, but can’t scroll it because the header bar, and because it’s an overlay.

Not sure what the issue is? I’m able to both adjust the size of this box and scroll the thread.

Mobile keyboards sizes are often adjustable. Time to size it down a lil perhaps.

It’s not going to be for everybody. I personally find it much more intuitive, and it’s friendlier for mobile.

And as was mentioned, the search function is much more powerful and using ctrl-f can actually search an entire thread now instead of whichever page you have open.

It’s also actively developed, you can summon a developer by mentioning them.

eh, still a pain when my browser’s UI is out. And my keyboard is fine, if I don’t have to deal with screen estate parasites like discourse.

I didn’t mean that searching. Read the whole message before replying.

I mean that’s basically it. The design feels like it’s made for mobile, without a more desktop friendly option. I’m sure I’ll get used to it, but for now it’s a pain on desktop.

Frankly, I read the whole thing and I just reread it again now (ya know, to humor you :scorv:) and I’m not seeing how my reply doesn’t apply to what you wrote regardless. See that little box on the search, the one about searching the thread?

Seems to me that would ā€˜cut down’ on all kinds of time, since you’re so concerned about it a minute here, a minute there. Helps too that the search here is miles beyond what we used to have.

I’ll say it differently then, I want to search for a thread from a year ago, I can’t do that now because I only know there was ā€œconversionā€ in the title, so I have to search all the threads before I can spot the thread I wanted. I can’t bookmark every page because how am I supposed to know I’ll need to prove something to someone that was mentioned 1 year ago? At this point I’d have to bookmark every thread I see because if I’ll need something I will be basically unable to search it and I don’t have a whole day to search 25 scrolls of threads every time I need to check an older message. I consider scroll searching a fail design, and I won’t use it at all if I’ll need to check an older message now.

Maybe make use of date ranges then to narrow it down? Seems like the way to go there.

Okay now I even hate this forum more. I didn’t even see there’s something like this. It’s stupidly hard to see and not available in the main page because the ā€œsearch the GD categoryā€ is selected and how the fuck am I supposed to know I have to uncheck it to see ā€œoptionsā€ text.

Now on that point I’ll give it to you  that this is something they may be able to tweak to make more apparent. If something isn’t clear then just let 'em know. Maybe they’ll be able to fix it for ya.

It’s new forum software. They’re still learning what to do with it I’m sure.

Someone will definitely be able to fix that, just not here, but at the Discourse end. I’m not sure someone from the developers is registered here. Used to be the case at another place I once visited, there you could simply mention them and start a conversation. Actually got a bug fixed that way once.
