The Masochism,A different build from the rest(Passed Crucible and Mogdrogen)

1、Brief description

I made this build in 1002.because my Chinglish,i couldn`t post it at here in time.Today i saw someone is interested in this,So i ask my friends to translating my build.
This is an unique BD that differentiates itself from the main stream fighters, yet it is still a typical retailiation one. The char could boost survivalbility while improve his/her own damage output, the core theorty is convert&transfer the char’s ability to survive into ability to output.

Compared with traditional retailiation BDs, this one introduces damage reflect and revenging skills to deal with rangers, caster and summoners that previous BDs are weak against, so that this BD would be essentially practical.

This BD offers both joyness and ability to conquer hard challenges, I have invested huge time and devotion  to prefect and improve from old versions to the most current one.It been using to The first kill or BOSS TESTING in my group.

Even if you are not interested in Retailiation BDs, it could be interesting if you read through my retailiation theory

2、videos:
Passed Gladiator with Extra Spawn when the Crucible has just been released,no Crucible buff.

This is my first time to pass the Gladiator with Extra Spawn,i had a low score.I think you can do better than me with this build.

Kill the Mad Queen when the Hidden Pass has just been released, with this video i found her Revenging skill.

I just the first man to eat crabs. Some one can do more faster than this with my build

the timer is obsolete,i updated the build in 1005.

Poor Fabius

Someone Said him can kill Fabius 10s with this BUILD.

Videos of my other BUILDs,they all in heaven now:

  1. PROS & CONS (Scoring from 1-5, Based on solo DLC ex150 Gladiator) :
    PROS
  1. Single target damage
1-5/5: Hard to define, it depends on your enemy rather than you.

2)AOE
3/5: Superior size. Kick your counterparts’ asses when they try to hit you, though unlike the normal AOE type, this would suffice.

  1. Survivability
5/5: Superior. All causes of death is from you.

4)Controllability:
3.5-4/5: you have your own decision to maximise your output, get your ass covered, or keep a steady output with lowered dmg taken, or lower your output with higher survivalbility.

  1. Potential:
5/5: Superior. Introduction of a lot greens grant great potential, due to your unique roll and combination of prefix and suffix.

Con:
Hard to get real end-game gears due to the looting system. Slower killing time vs casters and rangers, less powerful vs summoners.

Leveling guide:
(1) IF you are unsure about your char’s survivability, DO NOT use Fever rage!!!
(2) levelling up like a normal witchblade e.g. physical with Cadence, it is suggested to reform your char into retaliation bd after lvl 60.

4、Core theory of this bd:
Reflecting huge damage back to the monsters through enhancing them, your attack and defence would converge and serve the same target!

Before we really get into this BD, some theoretical parts are unavoidable as this BD is entirely different from the main stream ones:

Part 1:
Retaliation: This attribute has its own panel, isolating from the physical/magical/pets damage panels.

It is affected by common resistance, and only reflects melee damages to its provider. Damage would be affect by the monsters’ attack speed.

Part 2:
Damage reflect: Reflecting damage to its provider proportional (NB: the retaliation/damage reflection taken from the monsters won’t be reflected back to the provider), the type of damage won’t be changed during this process, i.e. vitality to vitality, or physical to physical.
Damage reflect can reflecting damage over 100%.

It is affected both by provider’s damage reflect resistance, as well as the provider’s resistance in his dmg type (which comes with pros and cons, when the damage provider has high resistance in the type of damage it provides, the effectiveness of damage reflection is low; this effectiveness could be increased through negative resistance).

Damage reflection is calculated prior to the character’s own defence system (EXCEPT your DA!).A high survivability would not affect your character’s strength in retaliation, also your damage reflection will not have cri hits. By carefully managing your DA, your enemy’s cri hits are your cri hits, your damage output will depend on your enemies’ damage output, and the damage will be calculated separately.

Damage reflection could reflect the negative effects that the enemies cast on you (EXCEPT the debuffs shown on the bottom right, above your mana bar). According to Theory part 2, the negative effects could exceed 100% by your own ratio.

For instance, Valdaran’s resistant reduce could be reflected, but not Zantarins resistant reduce which is a debuff by the curse and cant be reflected.

Part 3:
Revenging skills: This type of skills share the same machism – activate only through enemies’ hits, e.g. Counter Strike, Vindictive Flame, Vengeance granted by the relic Avenger, to name a few. These skills are affected by the times of hits you have received, and the CDs of the skills. Most of them have AOE effect and offer great helps to the BD when the above two damage types are relatively weak confronting summoning type enemies.

Now let’s get to the core skill of this BD:
Fevered Rage, AKA Transmuter to Bloody Pox
From the description of FR, it RIDICULOUSLY increases the effectiveness of your enemies’ output/damage and attack speed, in turn it provides huge benefits to all 3 mentioned output methods of your character, it is indeed the centre of Retaliation/damage reflection type of BDs.

PS: the dodging will affect your Retaliation but not damage reflection

5、Skills and Constellations

the grimcalc link:http://grimcalc.com/build/JxV35Rm

As I said Fevered Rage, AKA Transmuter to Bloody Pox is the core skill of this BD

Eye of the Guardian
I use it to deal with summoning type enemies. It is bind with Boold Pox will have a very good effect.

6、Selection of Gears:
I adopted a lot Greens, and anyone who wants to use this BD will have his/her own combination of end-game gears.
This BD is hard to get an ultimate status because the number of combinations, and it has great potential.
Please use “W” key as it is your best friend, I created two combat mode in the build, the char will switch between offence and defence mode according to the situation. 3 pieces of Dawnbreaker set would be core equipment in either mode.

Offense mode:
Mainhand: Plaguebearer`s Master’s Spellblade
Off-hand: Dawnbreaker’s Duty

Defence mode:
Mainhand: Dawnbreaker’s Sledge
Offhand: Warden’s Fortress NB: Prioritise prefix & suffix that boosts Physical resistance, e.g. enduring, along with damage reflection, e.g. menacing or valor

Other equipment:
Head: Green. Recommended material is Milton’s Casque , alternatively you can forge your own, or purchase from the merchants. The recommended pre&suffixes will buff Menhir’s Bulwark, e.g. warrior. Or you can select PF&SFs to enhance your damage reflect.

Amulet: Dawnbreaker’s Beacon

Rings: Green. Recommended material is Gollus’ Ring, alternatively you can forge your own, or purchase from the merchants. The recommended prefix is Incorruptible or menacing, the suffix would enhance your ability to survive.

Shoulder: Dawnbreaker’s Shoulderguard

Hand: Green, you can forge your own, or purchase from the merchants. The recommended prefix is menacing, the suffix would enhance your ability to survive.

Feet: Golemborn Greaves
or green, you can forge your own, or purchase from the merchants. The recommended prefix is menacing, the suffix would enhance your ability to survive.

Medal: Green, Recommended material is Ikrix Scale , alternatively you can forge your own, or purchase from the merchants. The recommended prefix is Incorruptible or menacing, the suffix would enhance your ability to survive.

Waist: Tinker’s Ingenuity, You may want to switch to greens that boost damage reflect if DLC is out of your plan.

Leg: Demonbone Legplates for DLC as to overbrim res vitality and +2 curse of frailty. For Main Thornhide Legguards or greens with damage reflect would be better.

Chest: Dread Armor of Azragor

Relic: Avenger for DLC to overbrim Res Vitality, also to offer am output pathway to summoners.
Citadel) for Main with emphasis on damage reflect.
Consider of Menhir’s Bastion if you are main tank along with other players or face to Anasteria

  1. Crucible&BOSS:

Heads-up in DLC:

Be aware of res debuffs. War cry will reduce your effectiveness in damage reflection and Fever rage will enhance the chance you-die-first. Use both of them with caution, cast them only when needed & switch between the offensive & defensive mode.
No hush rush, only living DPS could offer DPS! To score high you have to build a couple of fire towers, or a banner at most if you are not a high score seeker.

The performance of this BD is interesting, easy to conquer Gladiator alone (no buffs), hard to get a high score (the only method is to build more fire towers)

You have to choose Crucible of the Dead, the map size is small while plenty of open areas to ensure most monsters get a hit on you, so as to output damage in a relatively short time, bear in mind this BD offers largest AOE in the whole game, regarding size of course.

The most threat would be res debuff. For commons we deal with overbrimming res. So I emphasised the importance of overbrimming res to vitality damages. Other res you should also be aware of are Poison & Chaotic. Curse and durance could bring down your physical res, so clean watering it, or switch to defensive mode.

Not many bosses are harmful to your char in DLC, however certain monsters can be hard to kill when they are unable to effectively output damage.

Special attention shold be paid to the combination of Guardians in Wave 146. Res debuff from the Guardian of Dreeg, along with ground skills from the Guardian of Solael are dangerous to your survival, while it could be pain in the ass if you don’t take the skill damage. Cutting Dreeg in the corner (to avoid res debuff), take control of timing on when to cast Fever Rage&War Cry, and effectively switch between offensive/defensive modes.

For nemesis combination, it might take longer if you get summoning combinations, e.g. triple Zantrins…but no issue with that.

Nemeses:
(OK, due to the “boringness” of retaliation BDs, you would like to see a lot of stand in front of him XD)

Benn’Jahr: stand in front of him…

Valdaran: pure caster with limited output, it could be rather slow to put it down by your damage reflection. The best method is to keep a distance from it to allow the cast of lightning bolt, so that you could reflect the res debuff to it, then you approach it swiftly to get melee damage and retaliate the damage back. When your debuff is gone, keep a distance to allow lightning bolt again, so on so forth. It is also safe to have a ouple of fire towers.

Fabius: stand in front of him…

Moosilauke: Beware not to get an instant put down with Fever Rage. To be safe, activate Overguard or switch to defensive mode.

Anasteria: Presents greatest threat!! Never facerolling her. With the improvement in AI it is hard to cut her in the corner, and defensive mode is ineffective. Move around, NEVER EVER use Fever Rage. Cleansing water is your good friend, use it whenever Anasteria casts debuff to bring down your res. No rush no hush, to get her down within time limit, you need to have couple of fire towers.

The Iron Maiden: stand in front of him…eh sorry…it is a her…

Zantarin: The outputs from retaliation BDs are not so strong facing summoners, it is even harder after the AI dropped from the despatch of 1.006. Good thing is, you don’t need to worry about your survival. To get it down, again you need to have a couple of fire towers and drag it to the range.

Special bosses:
Mad Queen: Make use of Guardian’s Gaze, it could attract her revenging skill- abomination impale and get tons of impales, activate Overguard to react to the impales and reflect the damage is a short cut to put her down quickly, but it is with danger. Unassigned Guardian’s Gaze will grant you stability.

Loghorrean: fairly easy

The Sentinel: fairly easy, be aware of res debuff.

Mogdrogen: Overbrim your res to electric, you have to find green gears with high level prefix & suffix. Whether you can put him down, and how long it takes, will largely depend on the prefix and suffix.

After all, GL & GH!

8、Debriefing:.

Compared with traditional retaliation BDs, for this build I tried to enhance what this type of BDs are good at, and make up the deficits, however like any other BDs, this BD has its weakness and limits, is a typical lazyman BD with outstanding advantages and… disadvantages. The Panel data is not fabulous however you will be amazed by its practicability (you won’t need to push up your retaliation as this one has a very strong output to melee enemies). You can be at wherever you want, whenever you want, in Crucible or in the Main, after you have all gears allocated. You won’t be bugged with low output that is common among traditional retaliation BDs.

The core retaliation theory is applicable to all retaliation BDs, and the unique offensive/defensive mode, along with two active skills of Fevered Rage and War Cry, forms different levels of survivability and enhances your control of survival/output. This design compensate the weak point – the ability to control – that traditional retaliation BDs lack (most traditional ones have rigid survivability and output, over emphasis on survival would not be useful in your attack. Through control of mode and skills, this BD is able to covert the excessive survivability to output, or vise-versa according to your own judgement).

This BD is PVE oriented, with little changes it can be easily converted to a PVP one. Funny point is, you can have fun with an arrogant friend and cast Fever Rage when he is facerolling a nemesis…for instance, Fabius maybe:)
Or stick to PVE mode when you grouped in PVP and enhance your friend with Fevered Rage, so that he could dump tons of damage to the monsters when you are absorbing their output. A whole bunch of interesting pathways you could make some fun with this BD!

Most of the grimcalc, some constellations missing: http://grimcalc.com/build/JxV35Rm

Feel free to post your own with the remaining constellations.

The Chinese GD community seems to be pretty obssessed with killing Mogdrogen, i love it. I just hope the devs don’t buff him even further though :frowning:

I have hard time to watch a video from v.youku.com, i’am from EU, do people from US have same problem ?

This build looks like a simple retalliation build in combination with
resistant reduce from the occultist tree. Am I wrong?
To boost damage you can either increase yours or decrease resistances
of the enemy. Thats quite simple.
Your are not the only one, who has such a char in mind

regards Arkon

Not a simple retalliation build.resistant reduce only a small Part of occultist tree.
Wait for translating Please, the theory about retalliation is not simple and Gear selection is unique

The missing constellations is Targo the Builder. You read my build in chinese?

At warlock, it’s about reflecting dmg than retaliation right?

What I saw is about you’re taunting target and make it angry&buff by Bloody Pox -> Fevered rage than attacking you that mad

I see you have mark of divinity as a life circuit breaker(to absorb your dmg but reflect dmg is the same from gear). A lot of debuff in -physical resistance & other. And has Mirror as a secondary reflecter&make you immortal.

Updated the link. I can’t read Chinese, but I looked over your website and found the screenshots of your skills/devotion.

Gods judgment-warlock and Masochism Witchblade share the same main theory.reflecting dmg than retaliation, yeah thats Correct.I found reflecting dmg have few interesting secrets.
Warlock has more Revenging skills,he can handle summoning type enemies better than Witchblade. But Witchblade`s survivability better than warlock.
I had no time to updating the warlock when the Crucible been released, but one of my group improved it and passed Gladiator in HC.

The best way to get reflection-damage + retalliation is:

a) three parts of the dawnbreaker set
b) Messenger of War constellation
c) Menacing helmet with diamond
d) two rings with 18% reflection (menacing)

So, yout get all the reflection and retalliantion you need.

Combine it with poison-, acid- and vitality-retalliation (boots, pants,
medal) and then use cure of frailty.

Thats not a big secret and it works. You can have round about 250% damage reflect and A LOT of retalliation. And you boost it all by taking
the resistances down.

regards Arkon

Yeah.Reflection-damage + retalliation is not a secret at all.The secret is dmg Reflect can reflect negative effects which come from enemies’ attacking.
And low DA(or enemie has high OA) case huge Reflection-damage.Fevered Rage is centre, with out it reflection-damage + retalliation can do nothing to non melee monsters.
HOW to deal with non melee monsters is a simple retalliation build`s problem.A simple retalliation build can take down Mogdrogen in 10mins?

here is a refection &retaliation warlock ,if interested

There is another way of more damage without the use of feral rage;)
But it will require some seaching, it is not so obvious, and it is definetely
not in the skill tree :p.

regards Arkon

Hey mate,

Not quite sure which skill you are referring to…anyway to shed a light please?

The idea of reflect-based build is very interesting because retaliation alone doesn’t quite cut it. Against any pure ranged or caster enemy you have to rely on reflect alone so anything that improves reflect output is welcome.

So let me summarize to check if I understand everything correctly. There seem to be three important parts:

  1. Boost your %reflect.
  2. Lower the enemy resistances and DA. Increase their OA and attack speed with Fevered Rage.
  3. Manage your DA to find the sweet spot where your reflected damage is high and you don’t die.

Questions:

  • Anything else? Is there any trick that I’ve failed to catch?
  • How exactly do you survive so much incoming damage on a Witchblade? Cooldown reduction to use Blood of Dreeg more often?

yeah, you are right.I also did some things to handle the summoning type enemies. This is the weak point to the retalliation builds.

I survived with reliable shield to protect my char from most dmg, my health regen is around 2K-3K per second in the battlefield.

I also have more control with two skills: Blood Pox and War Cry, they work well together with offensive/defensive mode gears, you have your own decision to maximise your output, get your ass covered, or keep a steady output with lowered dmg taken, or lower your output with higher survivalbility.Given that the retailiation BDs have to cop with your enemies (no surprise), control is on the top of the wanted for this certain type of chars, that is what retalliation builds alway seek and hard to get。

Be aware of Anasteria, she presents a more critical threat than Modgrogen

Thanks for the explanations.

Now that’s some pretty impressive regen!

Citadel as a relic is also very helpful.
I prefer this to the other relics with good results.

regards Arkon

Thank you for locating the bug, I actually referred to Citadel however due to difference in the Chinese translation it was wrongly translated as Fortress. The desciption of “emphasis on damage reflect” is correct though, thx again for the kind advice.

Re the relic selection in DLC, the major threat would be summoning type enemies so I prefer Avenger.
