The pub needs to change

Pros:
Adds desirability
Small revenue boost
Provides entertainment

Cons:
Increased idle periods of workers (‘drinking wheat beer’, ‘intoxicated’)
Intoxicated villagers attack other villagers often causing deaths
Villagers become alcoholics that become very unhappy when there is no beer which only increases their dependency and violence when the beer returns. They run around unhappy for months and the instant the beer returns, they ditch whatever they were doing to get drunk.
Entertainment and monetary boosts are only slight

It is my opinion that the pubs need to be reworked somehow, as the small boons they do give are far outweighed by the problems they cause. Just the brawls and random attacks that seem to go on for multiple seasons is more annoyance than they are worth.

Isn’t this how it works in RL too? :smiling_imp:

For some reason, all my 5 pubs are “idle”
Lots of beer, the inn-keepers are waiting for customers,
but nobody wants a drink?

Is that only when happiness is low for a villager?

Would like to learn more about this,
since I like the idea of making an extra coin to pay our mercenari … erm soldiers.

I got rid of my pub, all my workers kept leaving their tasks to go there

I had once a villager that got drunk and violent but he then “one-shotted” every other village he attacked. He killed like 10 villagers in a few seconds. I was puzzled so I selected him and found out that he had a sword equipped. Maybe that was the reason why he was so lethal? Had to select him manually and send him to a remote wolves den to end his rampage. Anyone ever had experienced sth. similar?

ended up with 12 dead villagers

I guess that’s what happens when you get that many people in one place lol.

I’m ok with it

I deleted my pub but I still have a brewery and the villagers are simply drinking at home. The brewery will have to close

Is the loss of villagers greater than the gain of entertainment and desirability?

If this is an intended “feature” it is hilarious and awesome (but can totally see how it could be annoying too)! I’m going to try to get my village to “produce” one of these drunk guys and then place them in front of the path of a raider attack and see if he can one-shot some bandits!

Well I gave them a theatre instead, but it’s expensive! I can do them an extra school I suppose

In my town, I’m constantly out of beer, my pubs therefore lose their entertainment value.

  • I still had high enough desirability to easily go to tier 4. Even have a manor with 103% desirability. So desirability is not a factor that mandates the presence of a pub.
  • true that the happiness bar of my people is not maxed, but I didn’t see any drawback.

So I guess I won’t be doing a pub or a brewery in my next towns.

Seems like Crate needs to adjust the Pub a bit. Maybe instead of killing other towns people they just hurt them where they need to return home or the the Healer/Hospital to recoup for a period of time. That’s less of a severe penalty for placing a Pub. IRL, people typically get beat up at the bar, but don’t get killed.

They only drink a lot when they are unhappy. If they are happy they won’t become violent.

But, I agree that more entertainment buildings are needed. Their are only two, I don’t want to live in a town where only two things can be done.

The theater is even weirder, it cost you money, where is the ticket revenue?

This stuff doesn’t have any priority now, first optimization and bug removal has to be done on the moment. (At least I hope.)

Not all the entertainment compounds, some of it only stacks. I don’t think you can eliminate the pubs and still get to the level of desirability you need. But I haven’t tried it

Back to me saying… we need a law officer and jail

Yesterday i had a girl of 12, punching a guy.
I had a notification saying a villager started a quarrel and clicked on it to see. Apparently the girl hit the guy once and ran away.:man_shrugging:t4:
Not to mention the sad guards that cant reach for some alcohol and start killing his partner in the tower… that is amazing!
This town needs a sheriff immediately😑

Actually this happened in my previous game (0.75c or d)
Couple soldiers came to the brawl and that “somehow” stopped the drunken meanie.
Should have paid more attention then

Okay I’ve relocated all my 6 pubs next to every fort in town.
Still doesn’t increase drinking habits.
Why’s nobody up for a beer?

Pubs aren’t rolling in the gold they used to do.
I remember pubs being major money makers, like 150 gold a month.

Agreed, as soon as i landed my pubs, and even though my people are happy. My potters really liked drinking. ‘getting out to get a wheat beer’
‘intoxicated’
‘filling up storage at home’
‘getting out to get a wheat beer’

I think the activity “drinking wheat beer” should be removed in its entirety. We never have villagers do everyday activities like “having dinner with family” or “sitting on the porch” or “sleeping”, but we assume they do this every night anyway. So why should this be different for drinking beer in the pub? That makes zero sense.

It’s extremely annoying, particularly in bigger settlements where villagers easily lose several months’ worth of work just to go grab a beer. Just have the pub give entertainment and happiness, with the drawback that villagers occasionally become intoxicated and get aggressive or work less effectively. Right now the pub mostly feels like a trap that will make your villagers spend even more time doing nothing useful, which already is way too much in the mid- and late-game due to the longer walking times between everything.
