Tier 3 hunter idea: The game warden

Add a new tier to hunters, which provide the ability to relocate and manage wildlife.

This would provide an alternative to a barn based food eco, since we could instead fence off lands, have our game warden(s) relocate wolf dens, deer spawns and boar spawns to our new area, and then have our hunters hunt denser, managed populations.

There would obviously need to be balancing done, such as how close spawns could be placed, etc, but this would provide a cool alternative to mass-slaughtering cows each spring.

An interesting idea: turn the hunters into Game Keepers. Just a couple of things from the ā€˜real world’ of Medievalish forest/game management.

Such ā€˜game preserves’ were usually so that the Nobility could hunt in peace, so part of the Gamekeepers’ job was to keep everybody else out of the tended forest. Suggest, then, that each Hut/Camp full of Gamekeepers should get a fenced area of land to ā€˜manage’ and, to keep the gamer honest, they shoot any villagers or cows wandering into the area! This might serve to ā€˜balance’ the extra guaranteed meat from having deer, boar, wolves, even Bears in the area on a semi-continuous basis to hunt.

Part of the Gamekeeper’s results were trophies of the hunt. Perhaps if they are killing Boars, Wolves and Bears in their area they will produce not only meat and other products, but also the occasional Trophy Head that can be displayed in the Temple, Town Center or some other location for some kind of benefit.

That’s right - we’ll show those filthy peasants not to hunt on the King’s lands!

This could be a whole precursor to a Robinhood-esque expansion with villager revolts and all kinds of interesting things.

Of course, it’s completely at odds with the game’s ā€œFleeing the oppressors to found a new village in the wildernessā€ theme - as if they brought the oppressors with them, which seems more than a bit counter-intuitive.

On the other hand, another Upgrade for Hunters in which they get Longbows instead of crossbows or self-bows and thus get much higher effect against wolves, bears, boars, deer and raiders would be nice - with appropriately higher cost to get that, as in having to upgrade some production building as well.

At this point, of course, we are talking about DLC Post-Release additions - I suspect the path from here to 1.0 Release version is already pretty well mapped out and not subject to a lot of additons without pushing the Release Date back interminably.
