Shadow Strike = Dream (not rogue), skill is called Phantom Strike but it travels much slower
Trozan Sky Shard, closest thing is Volcanic Orb from Earth, but it instead casts the projectile from you and it is lobbed at your target
Doom Bolt, closest thing is Lightning Blast from Storm.
Sharzul’s Wrath, I think the closest thing to this would be Flame Surge (Earth), maybe Ice Shards (Storm). If you just want the nova aspect instead of the multi-projectile shotgun aspect, you can try Dream again for Distort Reality.
Tip for playing Storm and making the early levels easier/faster, just dump most of your points into Squall. It will carry you up until act 3 pretty much.
Yes, Squall/Obscured Visibility are great early game Storm skills. Later on Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning.
You can buy back skill points at the various Mystics scattered around the game, but you won’t find the first one until you reach Delphi. Look for the NPCs with a blue orb over their heads.
Don’t forget in TQ you can hold down left-shift and cast spells much further across the screen than you can in GD. Also skills like Squall and Lightning Bolt and plague can be cast through walls to reach foes on the other side. Volcanic Orb can be cast down cliff faces and over walls.
If you want something that starts off really strong and still remains really strong at end game use rogue traps, think something like mortar trap or storm totem but stronger (when comparing difficulty of the games overall) and a lot more active especially when paired with storm
I actually made a guide for it on the old forums going through legendary with resists severely in the negatives, while I don’t have the guide I still have the videos if you’re interested
Delphi, eh? Well that’s a problem. I need to get the Olive Branch for the Oracle and the Spider Queen is blocking my way. I’m only level 7 so cant cheese here easily. Well guess I’ll level up a bit more
I figured these things about Lightning Bolt and Long Distance casting by myself but I appreciate you taking the time to type this up
I didn’t pick Earth so didn’t know about Volcanic Orb so thanks for that
Nah, don’t think I’ll get serious into builds and stuff. So I’m good. besides Distort Reality from dream are there any powerful AoE skills like Callidor’s Tempest in Titan Quest?
Like Calidors No
Eruption from earth is a strong AoE which is almost the same as devotion fissure
And there is also the rogues traps that are strong AoE as well
Honestly there isn’t many actually big AoE skills most of them are just straight line ahead of you like flame surge, distortion wave, batter, whirlwind,
Your level is way too low. Are you rushing down the road, not exploring and finding all the side quests? You should have been L6 when you tackled Nessus and around L9-10 when you reach Megara. I hit Delphi at L13-14.
Yeah Chthon, I am level 13 or so and only got to Megara… How did you get to Delphi only at level 7 - you ran through enemies and did not do any side quests? You did not even get your second mastery yet if you are 7, you get it at 8 (not 10 like in GD)
I tried making a vitality melee character, using Dream/Spirit. But so far, killing things takes a long time and enemies hit me hard. Odd as I recalled that most things have very little resistance to vitality.
Yeah like I said I lost interest after we reach the town where you meet the Spartan Captain/Commander (Leonidas?). I killed the Centaur reached a city where the guy gave me the quest to retrieve the Olive Branch.
After that I just ran past shit and Lightning bolted anything that tried to move my hp bar. My last side quest was I think to retrieve some necklace that was meant to be dowry for some guy’s daughter.
Sorry guys, the game might be good but I just can’t seem to get into it. Which is why I asked for advice regarding awesome looking skills
The list of skills you guys provided have been helpful, I’ll jump into it when I’ve decided on which skill I want to stick to. I was hoping to get some radial AoE like CT but since that’s not on the cards I’ll go for either Earth (fissure like skill) or Rogue (traps) as a second mastery
Chthon, TQ simply doesn’t have them, not in the same way as GD. A lot of work was done by the devs on the old TQ engine to get it where it is now plus there aren’t anywhere the number of things that proc effects either in TQIT. Only Arcane Formulae which you make into Artifacts (GD’s Relics), some of which have procs. The most spectacular skill visually would be Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning I guess. There’s also a Divine Arcane Formulae/Artifact called Ikon of Zeus which also procs a thunderstorm with lightning which hits up to 10 targets, but that’s an L55 item.
You’re going to be in a vicious circle if you’re not that interested because as you’ve found you’ll hit a point where you can’t really go any further because you don’t have the experience/skills/levels to deal with what the game throws at you.
I can understand your situation. I tried D2 some years after I found TQIT and frankly it drove me crazy. That stupid miniscule inventory, the clunky need for transporation scrolls to port back to town. Argh! I think I got to the end of Act 2 before getting pretty much stuck with one of the bosses and decided I didn’t enjoy it enough to continue. If TQIT’s not for you, it’s not for you. That’s life and it would be very boring if we all liked the same things.
I can see where you’re coming from. My friend tried DII after Grim Dawn and he absolutely hated it.
As someone who started off with DII I like it but I can understand if someone doesn’t
Btw, I am at level 8 and am in Delphi after killing the spider queen. Having respec’d my skill points, I picked defense mastery. Well since LB and chain lightning kinda cover me with AoE I decided defense would be the best choice since I want to play it safe in the event I might encounter some sort of nemesis or end game quest boss on my way.
Is this the AE version of the game you’re playing or TQIT? AE added some extra heroes to the hero pool. And is this also the Ragnarök expanson that’s just come out? Again more heroes have been added I think, though their numbers aren’t comparable to GD.
Congratulations on battling through to Delphi at such a low level. Paladin is a very good class, Defense is exactly what it says - strong defense skills all round which will help you a lot. Shield Charge is GD’s Soldier’s Blitz. And do think about putting points into Squall/Obscured Visibility too. It comes in handy when you run into groups of archers trying to potshot you. If you want to do some theory crafting there’s the original TitanCalc still going strong as well:
Bear in mind that unlike GD you’ll never come close to the level cap in TQIT without farming like forever. I usually finish a straight playthrough clearing all areas on all 3 difficulties around L60-61. If you keep cutting exploring/quests you’ll be even lower. Levelling is also much slower than GD.
A lot of people who played TQIT and then GD and tried to go back to TQIT also often find they don’t like it much any more either. Happily I don’t have that problem since I never stopped playing the game. I play both TQIT/AE and GD and thoroughly enjoy both. They are different, TQIT is more clunky and old feeling, but having been with GD from beginning of alpha I can see how much has been changed during the game’s development.
I started leveling a Throwing Knife build but i really don’t like that you need to have it at max ultimate level to have no cooldown. Makes me wish the game also had transmuters like Frenetic Throw.
It does seem to be pretty powerful, specially with the Flurry of Knives modifier.
Yes, I’ve started a Trickster, but not that far along yet. I’m making a journal of how it goes since I’m not sure where attribute points are going to go, how the various skills will gel together, etc, so not a build guide as such.
Just a bit of info. The leveling curve got changed with the release of the expansion, so leveling should be faster especially in the later difficulties. No idea by how much, however, haven’t played that much of 1.48+ yet.
Odd, I always loved the story of this game, plus the TON of mythological lore. Then again if you are not into mythology you will find it boring, sure. Me, I loved to recognize the various heroes and monsters from greek and egyptian myths here and there.
Well, Dream has some visually nice skills - as others said, there is a skill that is essentially Shadow Strike. Just be careful - enemies tend to think you vanished and run back to their starting point if you use it, so you can end up running after a monster for a while invisible.
Storm and Fire (or what is the fire/earth path called?) has the most elemental magic skills, so your best bet are those two.
I only ever made close combat and summoner characters in TQ - due to the annoying way skill targeting works outside left and right click, it is complicated to play casters. One thing I did like and what I missed in GD is that magic user-type characters have their own weapon type with staves that doe ranged elemental damage, so you have a viable left click skill even without spells.
Defense is strictly an “auxiliary” mastery for close combat people. Not really useful for casters or ranged attackers. Unlike in Grim Dawn, lot of enemies are strong but slow and you can pick them off from afar, so kiting is not as hard. Defense is best for its really awesome stunning/defense-lowering passive shield bash attacks, think of them like the GD Nightblade dual wield passives, and there are like 3-4 of them. Warfare and Defense together can make the strongest shield/sword tanks where you use Onslaught (basically an attacks speed/damage increasing Cadence) and the shield passive and active skills the most. Though a shield/spear style (yeah, spears are one-handed in TQ) with Huntin/Defense is viable too, I once made such a character - this latter build has some nice bleed and pierce damage as many Hunting skills work with bows as well as spears.
Don’t expect any nemesises though. There are legendary monsters similar to these, but you will only encounter them on higher difficulties - on Epic, you will find Talos (mechanical golem Colossus) in Crete, the Manticore in the caves in Egypt, and the Undead (Chinese) Dragon near the Great Wall, and on Legendary you can encounter the Hydra in (where else?) the Lernean Swamps. I do not think the expansion has such a special monster. Neither of these are really mandatory encounters, more like detours save for Talos who is located in front of the Knossos palace.
I kinda grew sick of Mythology since I skimmed through various mythologies during high school. Which is why “original” worlds interest me more these days. Emphasis on those double quotes
I have another question. I am leveling up a Harbinger (Warfare + Dream), and I’m trying to figure out a decent AOE skill to pair with dual wielding Onslaught.
I’ve been using Distortion Wave, but I don’t really like it. I don’t have a lot of points in it, but it just seems like a weak version of Forcewave from GD (so far).
Running around single targeting archers is a pain in the ass. I’m only level 18, so I’m not very far. Anyone got any good AOE advice?
My playstyle is kind of like a Nightblade from GD. Maybe I shouldn’t have picked Dream.
Dump points into the dream passive line and maybe 1 point into Distortion Field, then work on Dream Stealer (phantomstrike mod) for big AOE hits. You should also work on Distort Reality/Temporal Rift, good CC + dmg and has great synergy with melee heroes. What Dream Trance have you chosen? For Warfare I would suggest either Convalescence (being tanky is great) or Wrath (DPS focused if you think you’re tanky enough).
