Long story short. TQ.net was started by one person, who then sold it to a second individual, who in turn sold it to iEntry. They were the longest owners of the site, providing all hosting, upkeep, etc. (even if it wasn’t always timely).
My gut feeling is that iEntry is undergoing some serious upheaval. I have not gotten many responses despite repeated e-mails, but at this point I would still ask people to be patient (perhaps for a couple of weeks…). I am relatively hopeful that some sort of TQ.net will be resurrected before too long, even if the owner / location isn’t exactly the same. However, this process may take time, but I am still hopeful we will get our forum back.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing Father Squid. I don’t know when they closed their other gaming websites down, but the suddenness of the closure makes me think they’re having more problems than just with the one website. Especially as there had been problems with the site a few days before which were then fixed before it disappeared altogether. Why bother to fix it if you weren’t going to keep it up and running in the future?
Haven’t found anything in local press to suggest any problems, but that doesn’t really mean anything. Could be an internal restructuring and news hasn’t gotten out yet because they don’t want it to.
@Medea: You may still call me spectre, if you want
Jokes aside: I can see that people would still like to play the original, yes, even though I don’t understand it. Nordic’s patch is basically an improved Fanpatch at this point. And most if not all of the introduced caps can be modded back to their previous brokenness (;)) again.
The Nordic patches streamlined the installation a bit so more stuff is actually in the IT directory, but it only really affects IT anyway (mostly like my patchfix did). Or did you mean something different with “updates for both games”?
@fathersquid: You being hopeful makes me hopeful as well
What I meant spectre/Malgardian is that most of the mods for TQ only work with the IT version of the game so I’m wondering if Nordic’s patches do the same or whether they also update the vanilla TQ.
As for playing the original, well I for one have never played TQ, only TQIT. I did start playing the vanilla when I first began, but read on the forum about switching to IT so that’s what I did. I do have an Oracle which I started ages ago in the original game because I just wanted to see the differences between the two versions. But I haven’t played her for ages, what with all the competitions I got involved in. I will get back to her eventually though. For one thing, not having the caravan forces me to be more self-found than I usually am.
Well, I’m a little late to the party here (or wake, as it were), but I suppose my main issue is that no one gave us any notice prior to removing the site. It would have been nice to have iEntry let us know something was up. From a moderator’s standpoint (and from someone who had been on the TQ.net forum almost every single day for the past five and a half years), I just feel we deserved to know what was happening and not have the rug just yanked out from under us like it was.
It’s great to see some familiar faces/names here, however, and although I’m not very active here, I’ll try to pop in more often. One thing that will always bring fond memories for me is how many fine people I met at the TQ.net forum, many of whom became good friends. I can only hope something can be done to resurrect the TQ.net forum in one form or another. Short of that, anyone by chance have a copy of our infamous squirrel thread?
defboy99! Great to see you! I was getting worried about you.
From what Father Squid has told us, it doesn’t seem as if it was a planned closure, but that’s not a lot of comfort for all of us who have lost our TQ home.
Rally Squirrel thread - not me unfortunately, but maybe someone will have some, if not all, of it tucked away. That was a really fun thread.
I assume one has to buy the steam version of TQ (IT) for the patches? Because I’m still rocking my disc copies and I don’t want to buy another version (and besides, there’s something about TQ (IT) that makes me not mind as much if it’s a little unbalanced, probably something to do with the music and atmosphere :))
@defboy: Welcome to our little exile enclave, defboy Yeah, the shutdown without prior notice was my main issue as well. We could have saved many things if we had known about this in advance…
You might check the web archive if your squirrel thread got a visit by the friendly chronicler spiders not too long ago: web.archive.org
About the patch release for the disc version: As far as I know they said that they don’t have the key database from THQ, so they have no way to check whether you have a valid version of the game. But I also dimly remember that they said something about releasing the patch for the disc version as well, but don’t take my word for it…
I did have the squirrel thread and a number of other things saved!!!
DID being there operative word considering my laptop died …
If I can salvage anything when I get a new laptop (which isn’t going to happen anytime soon) I’ll be sure to upload it if the forum isn’t back up by then
Hi Clegclaw2016. Seems this is becoming our home from home. Guess it always was to a certain extent though. Now just more so.
Don’t really know the German site, but seems to have similar to TQ.net. Whether it has all the mods or not or just links to them at the TQ.net site I don’t know.
