[Tool] Rainbow Filter (Item Highlighting)

The files are either in C:\Users\[User]\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings\ or the \settings\ folder inside your Grim Dawn install directory, on Steam you can find it like so:
image

Inside that settings folder is a \text_en\ folder with *.txt files, those make the colors in the game. Updated files are in the first post under downloads.

Either delete the old files to remove the colors or move the new files in there to update it and fix “Tag not found: …” issues.

Yeah idk the german text must be bugged.
If I use english language the colors are right, only in german they are wrong.

As long as that text_de is in your steamapps directory (bottom screenshot), every language but German will update properly.

Looking at those dates in the screenshots you posted: [Tool] Rainbow Filter (Item Highlighting) - #730 by Xeaker

steamapps folder (bottom) text_de was created first, then you added the path setting in the program (my reply screenshot) which will write files into the middle screenshot instead, so you created text_en and couple weeks later you made a change to German and wanted to update it, but the files were written in the middle screenshot, creating the new text_de, rather than replacing those in the bottom one.

Changing colors works fine for me

I deleted text_de and pressed Save Color which created a new text_de

But the colors are still wrong.

Hi Xeaker, hi WareBare

C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME HERE\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings

Hi Xeaker, hi WareBare

GD uses 2 directories to store user settings.

One is the one mentioned above in the GD folder.

The other is a legacy from development to make it easier for modders to save custom settings, and Crate left it active.

C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME HERE\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\Settings

check there to see if there are any old things from the former German translation in there. They used to be colored with Rainbow and stored there.

Since the translation is now “in play” and WareBare has also “adapted” the tool here, the old stuff has to go out there.

GD reads the user settings first. If there is something else in there, there will be overlaps. I can’t imagine anything else.

The files had the following format:

v1197_community_german_e_20230204.zip

For the colored files, their name was also included in their names.

If that’s still there, get rid of that stuff.

Ideally, if you have nothing else, there are only the settings files (inis) in the user directory. They absolutely have to stay there. These are your options and key bindings etc.

But the old translations are out. And have the WareBares tool recreate them so that they are only in the Settings directory in the GD folder and no longer in the Settings directory of the user folder.

Good luck, I can’t think of anything else.

We had a similar problem with the two directories in the early days of GrimUI. That’s why this occurred to me.

You might have the same issue somebody else had, just copy that folder over to the my games (from that middle screenshot), if that works - add the path inside the program for User Data, so you don’t have to copy it over each time.

Are you on Win 11, because iirc they were.

I deleted old entries but still not working.
If I use the Full Rainbow Color it works fine, but if I wanna use my own color scheme it does not work??

Elemental/Physical Damage over Time and Elemental/Physical Direct Damage are overwriting the colors for their respective types of everything that comes after it. Unassign them and assign them again to put them at the end.

The test for Cold/Lightning:

Ele DoT is set first so both DoTs should be yellow. Ele DD is set after cold, so only lightning should be yellow.

Did not work for me.
Elemental and Bleed/Pierce is not working for me.

I put Pierce/Bleeding in red but ingame they are different colors.
And elemental is always yellow does not matter what I put there

Hey! I’ve used Rainbow Filter many years ago, and I don’t quite remember how it was before, but I have a question regarding skill bonuses - is this normal how I have it? I installed the tool and used it with Full Rainbow preset. I’ve checked both My Games as well as steamapps directories to see if anything is overwriting anything else, doesn’t seem to be the case.

It seems inconsistent at least, check image below, I’ve marked the spots… Hopefully I am just doing something wrong, but scrolling through and googling didn’t seem to give me anything related to this “problem” (if it even is a problem?).

That’s just the game default iirc. Mastery Marker in the tool would change the color for those. Exception are greyed out affixes, those colors are hardcoded.

Oh that is just perfect. Thank you very much!

That’s how it looks now. Much better!

newbie here how to put back item color highlights ot background ?

That has nothing to do with Rainbow, it only changes texts. You have something else that does that, mod, UI or just corrupted files.
