V1.1.4.0 Preview

Well tbh. in case of Grim Dawn i wouldn’t like to have the difficulty’s removed entirely… i simply digged the Idea of having these Difficultys act like “Veteran” Mode. Not cut, but more optional “toggable” where your whole Progress beeing kept.

But i know and understand that this would mean an huge amount of rework, because everything would need to be adjusted etc… like as example the whole Faction-Concept - because with this three times playthrough you rank up your factions pretty naturally. And there are many other issues which comes with it. ANd besides that, you actually pointed it out: The Skip-Tokens do an pretty good job anyway.

And i’ve to agree with @idontwannaknow0 for people who find “leveling” bothering, you can GDstash your Characters. Use GDStash if you dislike leveling so much.

New player in what sense? Did you miss the part where i said it’s my first playthrough? Yes, i played my share of Diablo 2 back in the day but i wouldn’t call my self and ARPG expert in any way. Also i was playing solo self-found with one of the most unsupported playstyles - 2H pierce.

For hardcore you may have a point. I have no say in that, i don’t play it. But for softcore Elite is obsolete. I rushed through it and still hit 100 before ultimate AoM, after a little farming in low levels of SR and Crucible.

There is so much choice in GD.

Elite deleted is same thing as using merit to skip it. Xp pots, lokarr set, savior merits. Really not making much sense. People have levelled to 94 in what 8 hours? And again if that is too painful use gdstash.

Just what do you want?

Merits only unlock the difficulty. You still need to grind from level 1 to level 94 to wear endgame gear - and it still takes a good deal of hours. At least a couple if you’re extremely efficient. 10+ if you aren’t.

10+ hours is actually enough to beat some of the lazy “AAA” titles. While it certainly speaks well about GD - that it’s not some indie cashgrab for 20$ that takes a few hours to be completed - the process can get a little overbearing.

I have just finished untwinked hardcore for the achievements. Yesterday, in fact. Was Elite useful? not really, no. the most optimal way to get gear is normal mode shattered realm nowadays. You get more exp - and easier - from ultimate first act, too, if you compare Elite FG vs Ultimate Devil’s crossing area it’s a huge gap of difficulty. Even though I’ve been playig untwinked, from scratch (this includes 0 reputation) I didn’t have much use for Elite.

However, if they said they won’t be removing Elite, there’s no point of discussing it. myself, Id merely suggest a way to skip level grinding for those who have conquered high SR.

EDIT: oh my, I somehow screwed up and edited instead of posting. I have no idea how to fix this one, sorry.

Not seeing the problem here. If you start on Ult you are already leveling fast. If you want to level even faster than that then there is nothing stopping you.

GD stash

If “leveling” your Char is the Problem, than i don’t see how removing “elite” fix that either way. You still would need to level from 1-94 even without Elite, so this Argument / Critique make absolute Zero Sense.
/edit:
Also as People said already, the Skip Merit do that basically anyway. With Skip-Merit you aren’t forced to play elite anyway. And I’d argue it’s rather nice to have an difficulty inbetween of Normal / Vet versus Ultimate, if for some people is Ultimate to hard and Normal / Vet to easy.

And than again i don’t see a fix for this anyway, what can they really do? Give you more exp? Than it’s even faster and we’ve some people who complain that hitting 100 with Expansion is already too fast. Add a function where you can instantly create a Level 100? Well why not simply using GDStash for that… not really neccessary to add it as a vanilla features, even more if GD is meant about the “way” also.

Indeed. You will be hard-pressed to convince me since you have every option available as it is to advance quickly in any manner you choose. But it isn’t me you need to convince anyway and Z has made it clear both publicly and privately that he won’t be getting rid of Elite.

Screwed up editing my post rather than answering, haha. The new UI of the forums got the better of me.

My point is - if 8 hours spent on leveling a toon doesn’t feel a waste to you, I guess we can agree to disagree at this point. It certainly does for me.

8 hours is a whole day to me. it’s certainly not “quickly”

You can do it in 4 Days, level up during the weekdays and start the “fun” stuff on Friday evening with a few :beers:

Make yourself a blank slate max level character then and start at 100. If you insist on calling THAT cheating but wouldn’t call it cheating if they BUILT THAT FORM OF CHEATING into the game then your logic and thought process needs a severe reworking.

that’s one way to do it  I guess the absurd 2400 hours I put into GD is taking the best of me already. GD is way better in this department than the games of old, anyway. Like, making a new char in TQ! They added an option to start at 40 and it was still painful :joy:

powbam, cheating is something not intended. If an autolevelup token is intended and added to game, it’s not cheating. There’s no reason to dance around the subject, the concept of cheating is fairly obvious.

There is zero need for ad hominem you’re starting to use here so I’m done, this will only lead into garbage bickering.

For me personally the selling point of GD is variety - in building, in gear, in gameplay mechanics. I just think forcing a new player to repeat basically the same content 3 times is very outdated. PoE switched from it and it was one of the best things they ever did. Yeah, i know, again PoE comparison… but these are two games on the market, so the comparison it’s unavoidable.

I have about 2100 hours and I still enjoy leveling up chars, even doing Elite  I try to play the char with different skills in each difficulty before I do my “planned” end-game char just to keep things fresh.

lol it’s still cheating. just because it’s “official” doesn’t make it any less cheaty. by that logic you can then absolve yourself and use 3rd party tools GUILT FREE because guess what? Modding and 3rd party tool usage is officially SUPPORTED AND APPROVED. You’re off the hook.

That is why I sometimes recommend newer players to level up with different skills than the planned end-game build, just to get some variation going

I don’t like where this is going. It’s just a video game. Relax. I have a different opinion, you have a different opinion. No need for ad hominem, hidden insults, or plain old insults if we get to it. No need to attack my logic, or lack thereof. To me, bypassing the intention of a developer in any way is cheating. If the same developer wishes to reward you with a way to spare your time (ESPECIALLY as a reward for tackling hard content, meaning the low-end content is obviously there just to waste X hours of your life and your challenges lie elsewhere), it is not. Peace be with you.

No hidden insults were therein. I meant exactly what I said  Peace be with you.

I simply would argue, like many of this “Suggestion” (like Dedicated Servers and such), that such drastic Changes doesn’t make sense fo the Game anymore anyway. Well, except crate surprise us with another big Expansion(which i don’t believe), they are pretty done with GD after the huge Questline and Roguelike Dungeons. Well we might still see some patches, but nothing which would justify such an huge rework(and it’s not as simple as it sounds of cutting an whole difficulty).

So this whole Argument about “one difficulty only” would be something which would fit better an possible Grim Dawn 2.

And the Path of Exile Argument is still wonky, because PoE is an free2play Game with an Cash-Shop, which means they need to stay alive due they get constant money out of it. In this cas such huge reworks makes sense. Grim Dawn however is an classic paid-on-time Model (plus paying extra for extra expansions) so yeah.
