I have been playing around with making a DW Ranged Vindicator, based off of this old build by omnitrio: [[1.1.5.2] Sara Sloane | DW Ranged Vindicator | Gunslinger | Dungeons | SR 85] and am looking for some suggestions to optimize it a bit. Was my first attempt at trying to “update” something myself, and was struggling with picking the right components/augments, non-set gear pieces, etc. Despite many hours in game, I admittedly have always been a “guide” follower, so a lot of this theory-crafting is still very new to me. I thought trying to “update” an older build would be a good first stepping stone. And to be fair, maybe x patches later, the original is still the optimal setup and I am just making things hard on myself trying to improve it.
Ran it through a couple ultimate FG areas, killed Kymon (because I made the character in GDStash, my options for difficult encounters were limited), and ran it on normal crucible (a game mode I never do). Made it to I believe wave 143 before I stupidly charged myself into a reflect mob and insta-died. Damage seemed… ok. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. However, I never even dropped a seal until waves 130+, so at least on easy mode it was seemed decently survivable.
Am looking to run this in HC, but nothing too crazy. It doesn’t have to do all content (no joke, I have almost 1500 hours in game and have never even fought single celestial lol). I know 2H ranged PS is prob the more optimal setup, but if I wanted to play that, it already exists and I wouldn’t be here asking for opinions.
I made a build concept that has flames of ignaffar (converted to vitality), storm totem and wendigo totem, with 2x decree of malmouth scepter, stone of halakor amulet and dark one set. Haven’t yet played it though.
if you’re not using box for proccing devos or dmg/rr, i’d skip it entirely, add the points to Tenacity and still get oa but also+regen
Without a bunch of dot and oa to capitalize on Storm Pact’s crit, RR from Aura is “probably” way better, also free DR
Moar speed, more lifesteal, more passthrough WPS (take Chill Rounds)
as a personal “ocd” note, if you’re 1pt from breakpoint savagery you might as well try to push it to rank 24 with an item +skill point otherwise no biggie
*what tqFan suggests is solid, checkout Maimu’s setup for stat and approach pointers, it has nice stats
Pretty sure I picked Storm Box just for DA shred. I haven’t really played ranged much, so wasn’t sure the range of Aura. Although it seems like you will just pop seal and facetank anything but big hits?? So that was my reasoning for Stormcaller over Aura, being able to have more range and still keep the damage, as I wasn’t sure how much “up close and personal” I could get away with. Will keep this in mind along with @tqFan reply.

It’s just one example, but I’m glad if it helps.
Regarding omnitrio’s build, it was made on an older version, so some parts might benefit from updates due to changes in itemization and playstyle.
For example, I’d recommend considering Exonerator as a weapon. Since v1.2.1.0 it has local conversion to Savagery, which allows Shaman’s physical flat and Inquisitor’s pierce flat to be converted into lightning.
I knew it was quite old, but as I admittedly never read patch notes, I am oblivious to the many specific changes that have occurred since they made that build. So I was just kinda winging it, making sure to overcap resists and having a respectable amount (personal preference of course) of health for HC. Although I know health isn’t everything when it comes to surviving.
