I’ve recorded one run. Wasn’t laser focused so the play is not perfect. Died with over 5 mins on the clock, with one short room.
Dmg-wise it’s not too bad in the current SR, Aegis like that clears the packs rather well and the dmg to collected bosses is also decent. The main problem clunk, pressed buttons dont always work.
Also subjectively it doesn’t feel great with solo Aegis. Even with reduced cd and reset chance, you don’t really do anything inbetween the casts, because the other mods on the set are for a buff and you don’t get any skillpoints or relevant slots left to invest into another skill. You can take a filler, but there’s no good cast filler for it and an attack filler like FS with Blazeheart feels horrible with Aegis.
edit: watched it back, and yes, I died when the Aegis didn’t work on press and didn’t leech the hp back.
It’s pretty simple. I can give you for example the EoR spec file and you just try to throw aegis while channeling. In most cases you’ll need to desperately press the aegis button 2-3 times for it to get cast. This is caused 1. because of the lack of speeds (although i desperately try to get all of them, thus my suggestion with total speed on the shield) 2. because aegis animation is far too long, similar to bwc animation and it gets interrupted.
I can cast it 100% of the time, whether the character has 100% speed and no cooldown reduction, or 200% speed, and even 0 cooldown on Aegis. All this during Eye of Reckoning as well.
Eye of Reckoning is on RMB, Aegis is on keyboard, also tried Aegis on LMB.
Wait, so you never experienced the skills buffer and not go off? Like you press the button and you can even see it being pressed on the tooltip but the skill doesn’t go off?
Like at 1:06 the cursor is on the pack, the button is pressed, but the skill doesn’t go off for a few moments. Similarly at the moment of death, it is pressed on the tooltip but didn’t go off in time.
Well, it’s rather common in my gameplay and in the gameplay of people I know. It’s prominent when you hold an LMB with a fast animation cast and try to rotate through your keyboard binded skills. The skills with slow animations sometimes buffer like that but don’t go off.
Look at 1:06. The character movs to a pack, points at it and starts spamming Stormfire. I press mines and Aegis in succession. Mines go off but Aegis doesn’t even though you see it being pressed on the tooltip. And only after some 3 Stormfire casts do i manage to send Aegis off.
At 1:06, I see exactly what you did. You are approaching the target, Aegis is not yet in range, then you start spamming your LMB (which has a longer range), which overrides the queue.
I approach the pack holding LMB as I always do. If holding LMB wold override the casts on keyboard, they would never go off.
The screenshot is at the momen Aegis is pressed (you can see on the tooltip). Aegis is absolutely in range of that, Aegis has much higher range than that:
defo had it happen, there are times when it seems the input queue didn’t pick up a key pressed, sometimes the skill even goes on cooldown but didn’t go off. i wouldn’t say it’s common and i can’t be absolutely certain enemy crowd control was never involved (never use shift) but i’d say this was a known quirk. maybe rmb not moving into range is part of it.
looks like vire’s might, then leap next to the void fiends to me, after that aegis not registering, then stormfire and then aegis working vs the crabs.
Unfortunately, I’ve found that I have to let go of LMB for a fraction of a second while spamming the CD skill key I want to use. Sometimes I will just set that to RMB so I just alternate buttons to prevent the LMB from keeping priority in the skill queue.
So what is the mechanic, actually? How does it work? 90-95% of the time when you hold an LMB spam and rotate through your keyboard skills, they override the LMB. AS they should, releasing LMB for every single cast is not only very clunky, it’s putting your character in danger.
But somtimes it randomly doesn’t work. There are no interruptions to the character with cc abilities. The skill is even pressed on the tooltip but doesn’t work. This is, like, the most commonplace issue of the gameplay. And if the skills in question have slow animation, it’s much mroe common.
i don’t know if it’s the right term or not, but i’ve often referred to it as “animation” cancelling, which is more noticeable on some skills than others, which again sorry for my scrub luddite speculation, then figured was related to them frame speeds or windup speeds.
So even if you’re using 2 skills scaling on the same speed, you can interrupt your initial cast pressing another button too soon/“before the first skill got far enough in its animation” or whatever we call it, so it doesn’t go off even tho clearly pressed as indicated by ingame ui, and the second goes off instead
I’ve legit always assumed this was “intended clunk” as some sort of discouragement against WoW faceroll keyboarding - but either way it’s super noticeable even to scrub pilot casul me, and definitely more annoying on some stuff than others. (and doesn’t seem exclusive to lmb+hotbar comboing either just more pronounced than hotkey+hotkey chains)
*unrelated example to virtue and about the disrupting own skills; Spellbreaker, Level 95 (GD 1.2.1.6) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator here i had to switch blade trap to hotbar, because it kept being interrupted when it was on mouse, and it’s easier for me to doubletap keyboard 2x in a row to ensure it goes off/“override the spam/other casts” than when BT was on RMB.
This is probably what’s happening. Most often when I’m holding a LMB attack and use a movement rune on keyboard it will cancel the animation and I won’t move far at all while the character resumes doing the LMB action.
So quarter of a second. How much time do you need to wait to press another skill so they wouldn’t mesh? In this game you can die in a fraction of a second so you kinda expect skills separated by a quarter of a second to work in succession, no?
