This has been mentioned in other posts, not sure I understand when to make more Wagon Shops or when extras would be useful.

I have an Ore mining facility away from town, with a Temp House, Well, and Stockyard. I just observed a Wagon drive from town all the way out to the Sand Mine, pick up Sand and take it to the nearby Stockyard, then drive all the way back to Town empty handed.
If you didnāt set the stockyard not to accept sand then yes, they will deliver to the nearest storage facility.
The Sand is going to the Stockyard, the problem is that the Wagoneer has traveled very far from Town to pick up Sand from the Mine, drive 30 feet to the Stockyard to store the Sand, then driven all the way back to Town with nothing.
The expected behavior would be the Sand Miner walks 30 feet to the Stockyard, and the Wagon comes from Town to pick it up at the Stockyard.
Wagons only pick up from mines, pits and work camps and take stuff to the storage facilities. They donāt pick up from stockyards.
Pretty sure he understands that. This is the ideas and feedback forum, he thinks the way it works is illogical and would like to see it changed.
I agree with him. Itās fine as it is now for early access, but the system could use some work before release.
Picking up from more sources would be nice too.
An example how Iād like to see it is that in addition to a toggle that allows you to either accept or not accept an item, Iād like to be able to set a āpreferredā maximum and minimum, and the wagons do work to try to adhere to those values. Or something like that, I donāt know.
Or keep track of supply and demand per storage facility, and then let wagons use that info to balance the resources. But thatās a little more complex I suppose.
Yes, sorry I was unclear. I donāt understand the logic behind the Wagons. I would almost suggest that Wagons only pick up from Stockyards, Warehouses, and Root Cellars. Maybe āfactoriesā as well.
The way it works now, then I should definitely not build a Stockyard close to where the Resources are, otherwise the Wagons will behave as above.
Iād actually like to see wainwrights be builders of waggons and stockyards (and maybe storehouses) have personnel that use those waggons (once/if available) for stocking/delivering. A bit like grocers and markets, but with the ability to use any waggons if they are available (like grocers using baskets).
Iād like them to move faster. Even when theyāre on roads villagers are faster than the wagons are.
Blame that on the oxen. Even without a cart behind them, their walking pace is slower than the average human.
Another argument for a faster domestic animal to be available, like horses or mules: more expensive to acquire, possibly, but speed up your āsupply chainsā.
I have seen wagons carrying food items as well. Is that a bug, or are they meant to be able to pick up from the root cellar, smoke houses, and hunter/foragers?
They generally take ālargeā loads out to the temp shelters when they are carrying food; not exactly Uber Eats but deliver a monthās worth of food at a time.
