I’ve slaughtered the entire population over and over and over. I’ve wiped out all the trees in the area. I’ve put houses down where the little spawn thing is. All they do is either move a few tiles over or they just respawn right on top of the houses. About 20 times now I’ve wiped out a spawn to where it disappeared, only for it to come right back.
It shouldn’t be that hard to get rid of them. Having the node respawn elsewhere is fine, but a bit further away would be great. Even better if they picked an area that has trees, and not right on top of area I’ve cleared out for farms. I have 4 hunters parked right on top of the spawns and have manually slaughtered them over and over, and they won’t leave.
I can confirm this is quite a similar experience to actually living in the inner city in Michigan in real life. We get turkeys unexpectedly as well.
I understand the frustration in game, too, though. I had a pack that I had to wall in with a cow farm because they kept wandering over and eating my crops. I think in cases like this it might be easier to code a spawn block mechanic, which sucks for supplies, but would solve the problem and is probably more realistic anyway.
I have noticed that the deer spawn icons move a little bit when I build on them or they disappear entirely. Which is not a bad thing either way but I’d rather see them remain since they sustain my town early in the game.
Well, because of my lack of labor force in almost every single harvest season, I would rather just let them eat, instead of suffering from crop spoilage. I view the crop-stealing deer as natural fur farm. I trade crops for furs and some extra protein (the poor 60 meat is unnecessary though). Moreover, wolf dens play the same role in my game, I’ll plant lookout towers near the wolf dens and then gain dozens of furs before I have to destroy them to take room for village constructing.
To be honest, I do that only because the fur-meat-ratio of cattle is too low. If I slaughter 30 or more cows per year to meet my fur requirement, I have to waste a lot of fresh meat.
I have a similar experience since 0.7.5. I don’t think it was the like this before. My deer always moved further and further away from the settlement. Report it as a bug maybe?
I think one feature this game is missing is a better flattening tool. The current tool just level the area a bit. A better and improved tool would not only level the area but also get rid of mob spawns and trees that regrow over and over and over again.
