What do you think of Relics?

Nice to hear.
Because this storage problems no should apear in 2014. Single stash tab in game focused on farm items? Really?

And with it i must spend 10 minutes to level another character to be able to store items?

Im about to rage

Hope I didn’t sound like I was getting on the devs, is was not my intention. I pretty much figured something for organization would appear in the final grand design of the game.

I just like that guildwars 1 approach to a similar issue… it is something not really addressed in classic ARPGS and it would be nice to get that stepping stone without being overbearingly complex included in the game. I feel the storage systems from large mmos would probably be too out of place in GD so a balance must be found to ensure the integrity and atmosphere of the game (which it has much of) will be preserved.

Well I got to say that I’ve only found a couple of blueprints in a fair amount of hours (±30h).
Also the stuff needed like rotten brains and blood of Ch’Tholon is VERY hard to find, so I haven’t had the chance to craft anything yet…
Speaking of which, gonna go farm a bit now!

I got brains like 50% of cases from big bad guy in the end of labaratory.

I am enjoying the system as is. Very nice.

I’ve been playing for about 30 hours on the latest patch, and I’m a bit torn on the current rate of finding blueprints. I think they may be a little bit too low for item/relic blueprints, and a little bit too high for recipes. I find tons of recipes, but through the entire game and a lot of farming on Veteran I’ve only ever found 1 item blueprint (Omen) and 3 relics. Maybe I’m just unlucky, but it does seem a bit overly infrequent to me for the level of reward they provide (good but not amazing).

Not sure if this will be read so deep in but

  1. Relics are awesome. I love finding new ones. You guys do a masterful job designing them. I’ve yet to find any tier 2 ones but i checked out the item database, and it all looks great. Here’s why relics are so interesting: Since I only skimmed the database i don’t remember most of them so when i find a blueprint it’s a little surprise. Every time i find one, one of two things happen: I see a way to use it to take a build i was thinking of to even further heights, or even cooler (imo) i see a way to make a fringe, strange build more viable with the relic. I think the way you’ve designed relics really helps build diversity.

  2. Yes, not too fast not too slow. However one thing Diablo 3 did (ugh, i hate to use them as a comparison) is make it so recipes you already found cannot drop. I don’t think this is wholly appropriate for GD because it’ll make it too easy to get them all. I think what would be better is that known recipes reduce the chance of the same recipe dropping by 30%-50%. If it’s a hassle to program it’s not a big deal, the rate’s still pretty good. I understand that blueprints are intended to be found over multiple characters which is a great concept, though if the idea of replica blueprints dropping less doesn’t happen, i think a 5-10% spike in drop rate would be nice.

  3. Well if I don’t dupe my components then I’d say yes. Sometimes it’s a bit frustrating not having the ONE LITTLE PIECE left to complete a relic, but it’s oh so very satisfying when it finally drops. Completion bonus is a nice touch for min-maxers to keep building the same relic until a “perfect” one is crafted. The Tier 2 relics look great in terms of power:cost ratio. I’m almost worried that with everything in the game as is one can get TOO powerful without THAT much effort. I hope the next difficulty levels somewhat harder.

Will there be Tier 3 relics?

Yeah, but they’re level 55 and onwards. Probably more to come too.

Thank you.

my thoughts after 30 hrs of farming. 6 lvl 25 blueprint found, 3 lvl 30, five empowered relics crafted (Mistborn, Gunslinger’s, Inferno, Glacier and Squall), and a bunch of components (something like 10 Tainted Brain Matter, 5 Blood of Ch’ton and 5 Ancient Heart, much more than what i need now anyway)

Empowered ones are fine, Transcendental totally rock  (powerful stats and cool skills, can’t wait to use them !). i think that the empowerd relics could start at lvl 20 instead of 25, so it could be used earlier in game.

it is. maybe the empowereds’ drop rate could be slighty buffed though. but considering that one blueprint allows you to craft as many relics as you want, the drop rate shouldn’t be too high imho

Totally ! Tier 1 is a good start, easy to complete unless you miss the special component.Tier 2 is quite hard to complete (especially those who need a 27+ rare components, not to mention the 35+ components of course), but the reward worths it. it’s perfect as it is imho.

a small thing but i think blueprints and recipes shouldn’t share the same color anymore, and maybe not the same at components either. for example we could have components and recipes in brown, relics’ blueprints in light blue (like in TQ) or in the same color than rare components, and uniques’ blueprint in uniques’ color. or something like that

Relics are ok, their drop rate are ok, i wouldn’t change them, at least for now.
I don’t see why some people complain, to be honest.

I would like to see some more variety in the future (maybe some support style artifacts), but that’s all.

Would it be possible to perhaps exchange tree equal blues for the blueprint of that blue? That way it’s not really any point in storing too much in the shared stash / on mules…

Most uniques do not have blueprints and those that do drop so rarely that you have found the blueprint more often than the unique.

So your proposal makes little sense. Also, if you have the same unique three or more times, I might as well only save one or two and sell the others.

Agree with mamba

I have as far as I’m aware all the transcendent currently avaliable but miss three of the normal relics to make them…

Since the patterns once used are shared across all characters they serve no point in dropping again as they are effectivly vendor trash.

It’s a bit of an ask but once the patterns used, it serves no purpose in a repeat drop so should have a 0% Chance of dropping again.

Funnily enough I have ran warden many many times and not seem the patterns ive needed, however on a new charater I got one of the elusive relics drop twice as I was under lvl 25.

I have however had lower level items drop whilst lvl 35 and this may be coincidence only but these last three did seem unobtainable once lvl 35

it seems only one of my 4 characters is lucky enough to actually get the drops. i have run warden 10 times now with my blademaster and have 16 relic recipes. with nearly half being the rare ones.

I have been finding them just fine, but I have been playing quite a bit. I’m sure I’m repeating what others have said, but here are my main issues that I feel need some tweaking:

COMPONENTS;
we all know there are too many to keep track of, and I know they are considering a system for the storage, so I won’t say much on that.

As for tier two stuff, it is the components I have had trouble with. I am one chain of oleron away from making that sweet nightblade one, but can not find it for the life of me. I understand they are rare, but I feel like I’m never going to make the darn thing because of it.

RECIPES
Finding recipes is fun, and I do like the fact that they are saved over characters because I found saving them individually in TQ was almost as much of a pain as saving all the components. I haven’t tried the potions because they seem like a waste of time honestly. I would use them if they lasted for like an hour or something, or even thirty minutes. But at this point I guess I feel like my character is set up to beat the challenges in front of them sans potion well enough. Perhaps my mind will change with the new rogue-dungeons when I need an extra boost.

Also, there is something about the recipes for blue items that bother me. It makes them feel less unique. I would rather gamble on better stats on various green items.

Ahh, I new I was doing something wrong in finding them… I forgot to actually play the game… silly me, well ya learn something new everyday…

I assumed that like me ya found them in the garden or on 5 he way to the shops…

Ill take a Face with added Palm please

I’ve got 5 complete chains of oleron, but it’s cos I’ve been gardening a lot recently…

I did not feel that relics for 15k iron is better than 8k iron relics. Is it intended that they have comparable power? For example swaping equilibrium for squal does not give feeling that I recieved something better for lightning build. Stats are low and skill is not strong enough. 18 second cooldown is not comfortable to use. I have feeling that I do not want to bother myself to cast this skill. Same with many other low level relics. Best of them that have skill which I do not need to activate. For example calamity feels very good.
I suppose power of tier1 relics skill should be comparable to component skills power. But component skills was polished and most of them are usable already. I cannot tell same about relic skills.

Any other aspects are good (recipe rarity, tier2 relics power)

PS Also completion bonus is disappointing in most cases.
