What do you think of Relics?

i now have got all of the completion bonuses for chains of oleron  will take some time to get every bonus because i got a lot of the same completion bonus

Hi there,

I find that the game is actually well tuned.
Relic are great, and basic one easy to get with a new character.
The advances ones are more diffcult, and the epic ones are long way to get but very rewarding. It’s perfect.
For the blood and heart to get is just fine.
The blue print too are perfectly drop.

Only ‘problem’ are component.
Component to stock, but not really a big problem because it’s easy to manage and transform them in the ‘next level’ component if really needed some space.
I don’t really have the problem myself, but i understand that it could become one.

It’s just great as it is.

Are you a forum bot? Cos like there are things in your post that are a little odd like err the legendary relics being a long way of to get but are rewarding?? You can’t even use them let alone find the patterns and if by some bug you did find the patterns the materia isn’t possible to collect…

I’m convinced that forum bot is best one game has offered… fail

are you reading it well enough? he is talking about the epic relics…
those can drop, so don’t see any problem there.

but yea he is talking like a robot… short sentences without any explanation…
but so far i think he is enjoying the game?

OK, so his English isn’t perfect. I think we can all get the gist of what he’s saying without you insulting him.

He says he is enjoying the drop rates and relics as is. That is easy enough to gather from his post.

Don’t worry, he bashes everyone. I have seen him in different topics. He even tried to bash me.

But yeah, relics are fine the way they are.

I’ve played seven characters to lvl 35 and speed farmed veteran countless hours.

So far the relics are very interesting and possibly build changing depending on which relic you have.

However, it seems very difficult to find say a lvl 25 relic that you need to craft your lvl 35 tier one on a lvl 35 character. If you’re lvl 33 you’re golden and you can still get them fairly easily, but after that I’ve farmed countless hours on lvl 35+ dungeons where I’ve found I get very few of the lower level plans that I need to craft my higher tier items.

Perhaps according to player level, increase the chance slightly for lower level tiers needed to craft the higher ones? I’m not asking for a significant boost in plan drops I kind’ve like that they’re rare, just maybe an increase in the lower level plans to craft my higher level ones since once you get close to lvl 35 it’s a tad more difficult to find them.

Also, I’ve farmed for about 8-13 hours a day the past 9 days and accumulated probably 6 soul shards, 7 ectoplasms, a few blood of cthon, etc. But certain bullet types like silver are near impossible to find as i’ve only ever found one (need 4 to craft Deathchill).

On a side note-- I’ve noticed there are trends to the relics thus far:% chance on item to proc w/ stat boost, aura with stat boost, skill granted w/ stat boost–maybe some utilities mixed in. (Honestly too much emphasis on % chance to proc this or that with some sort of massive cool down for the legendary ones). What if there was another element added to the mix? I think it would be really cool to have relics modify existing skills.

For instance:

Blood Wind-Legendary Relic–Whirling death now also triggers a tornado of pure chaos energy that deals 150% of your elemental damage as chaos to each enemy it touches (can only hit each enemy one time-1.5 meter radius and travels 4 meters before dissipating). This attack also leeches 15% of the damage back to your health pool.

–>This relic should be incredibly hard to make and incredibly rare (hence legendary status)-- would create some cool builds for things like witchblade in the endgame.

More examples:

Blood Pact–Legendary Relic– Summons 10 Skeletons that create a protective shield around your character absorbing 30% of oncoming damage and reflecting it back to attackers. Your minions now also gain reflective properties granted by gear.

Bringer of Bones–Legendary Relic– Increases max number of summons to 7. Your summons now spew beams of chaos energy equal to 50% of your total elemental damage. Summons now have 20% reduced attack speed and cannot hit critically.

The Evil Eye–Legendary Relic–Enemies killed by Dreeg’s Evil Eye explode for 50% of their max life upon death.

Legend of the Gunslinger–Legendary Relic–Dual Wielding pistols now grants an additional 25% chance to execute.

Absence of Time–Legendary Relic–Reduces all existing cooldowns by 50%.

Triple Threat–Legendary Relic–Forcewave now triggers 2 additional waves.

Blood Bath–Legendary Relic–Ring of steel now pulls in outlying mobs within a 6 meter radius and adds a chill effect to survivors slowing their movement and attack speed by 20%. Ring of steel now also has a 35% chance to activate twice.

Pulsar–Legendary Relic–Thermite mines now release a pulse of energy every two seconds that deals 45% of your physical damage as fire in a 1.5 meter radius to each mine. Thermite mines can no longer use other attacks.

Vortex–Legendary Relic–Cadence now has a 50% chance to pull enemies in a 3 meter radius to the attacker and deal 75% weapon damage as physical on each vortex.

Yes these relics sound incredibly powerful, but that’s the point. They’re hard to get and therefore they should be very worthwhile for the time investment. It would be cool to add more ancient door dungeons where the only location to get mats for these types of relics would be in those dungeons.–Would decrease the number of people who had these powerful relics and make people in awe when someone who joins their party actually has one. Yes people can dupe mats but they have to be able to clear the ancient dungeons and cthonic blood can’t be duped. Perhaps the mats for these relics could also be made bound to the character (untradeable and untransferable) to prevent duping and make people actually have to work for these incredibly powerful items.

You’re just farming the wrong areas–brains i have 25 from farming the warden–ancient hearts are from beast type heroes? Also, farming veteran drastically increases crafting mat drop rates and blue drop rates so I would recommend building a character with enough life leech to handle vet.

Feel free to utilize my ideas listed above for relics in game- If you like my ideas and want me to post more on relic ideas I would be more than happy to help.

Most relics grant active skills. There are many % chance skills because some players prefer those.

The engine does not support skills on items that modify mastery skills, so relics such as those that you are proposing are unlikely to appear in the release.

Yeah I totally understand, would be extremely difficult to add something like that when you’re already pushing for a release date. Definitely would be something cool to add for an expansion though.

As Zantai said, making these kind of relics is not possible atm and that is alright with me. The dev team has their work cut out for them as it is.

That being said, very, very good ideas! Props man. Both imaginative and seemingly practical. I’m very impressed by these. I have an ARPG I’d like to make someday and if I do, I’ll recruit you to make at least the legendary tiers! :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks ^^ I’m actually going to college next semester to become a game designer. So if it’s anything like Grim Dawn count me inXD

Please tell me that’s not the only thing you’re studying. :undecided:

Game Design degrees by themselves are nowhere near enough to get you ready for an industry position. At least I hope you did your homework on the degree program. Many are really really bad.

Haha, I’ll keep that in mind. I have the theme, main storyline and some of the skills/characters in place. D2, Grim Dawn and TQ are the best ARPG’s so far imo, and pretty good outlines. You need to put your own spin on it though. Good luck with everything and listen to Zantai!

I had been planning to take the program offered by the Art Institute of Austin. I chose Austin since they have over 10 major game companies that actively offer internships to students at that college. They teach you a lot of the art, 3d design, level design, story boarding, inserting skeletons into 3d models, and I also plan to take business classes to make my own contracts.-- If you have any suggestions please let me know. Here are the classes I will be taking–

Art106 Design Fundamentals, Observational Drawing, Art111 Perspective Drawing, GAD100 Introduction to Game Development, English 1301 (already taken), Art114 Color Fundamentals, Art 109 Image Manipulation I, CA115 Drawing and Anatomy, GAD 110 Interactive Storytelling, Math1310 (already taken), GD101 Digital Illustration I, GAD130 Game Design and Game Play, CA233 Life Drawing & Gesture, CA120 Concepts II: Storyboarding, Arts1303 Art History I, CA230 3D Modeling, CA260 Background Design and Layout, CA251 Character and Object Design, CA215 2D Animation Principles, Arts 1304 Art History II, CA265 3D Animation, CA270 Hard Surfaces and Organic Modeling, GAD235 Texture Mapping for Games, GAD240 Material and Lighting, Humanities English, CA 434 3D Character Rigging, GAD275 Character and Game Modeling, GAD 310 Lighting and Texture, GAD255 Interior Spaces and Worlds, Humanities History Req, GAD315 Programming for Artists, (Elective problably business models for contracts), GAD 330 Project Management for GAD, GAD300 Level Design, Phys1301 Physics, GAD 350 Game Animation, 2nd elective (probably another business oriented), GAD325 Game prototyping, GAD320 Advanced Level Design, Psyc2301 General Psychology, GAD340 Advanced Game Prototyping, GAD335 Sound Design for Game, GAD345 Interface Design, SPCH1315 Public Speaking, GAD405 Advanced 3D Animation, GAD400 Team Production Planning, CD400 Career Development, Math and Science req (bio/mat done), GAD415 3D Scripting, GAD410 Team Production I, GAD425 Portfolio I, SOCI1306 Social Problems, GAD420 Team Production II, INT419 Internship, GAD430 Portfolio II, Social science req-psyc.

That took forever to type >.< but if you could look that over that’d be awesome.

Yeah that’s definitely where I would be headed with it, and I tend to put my own spend on anything. I’ll def listen to Zantai he seems pretty knowledgeable in that area.

I’m curious as to what you guys think of the system as a whole: I LIKE IT!.. But…The inventory system!!! really impedes the crafting system…

please read –http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15666

Are the Relics you are discovering interesting? YES …INDEED !!

Does the rate at which you are discovering new Blueprints feel rewarding? It’s not awful, but the dupes I get are insane, I’ve gotten the same blueprints and the same epics over and over…I have 5 witch stalkers, 7 maruader’s justice, and so forth… from LV 0-35 I found 7-9 blue prints and if I remember correctly 5 where dupes…

Are you finding the cost of crafting Relics to be an appropriate challenge? Are Tier 2 (Transcendent) Relics an appropriate cost for the power they provide?—It’s high for sure…but not insane…

I haven’t looked at every post in this thread, but can someone tell me if there is a cold themed relic? That would be most helpful for my build.

As far as blueprints, gotta agree with what others have pointed out, I’ve also been finding quite a bit of dupes. I think I’ve got 3 Maiven’s (sp?) Lens’ now.

All in all, I’m really digging the crafting though!

Deathchill, although as you can see, it’s a little tricky to make

Happy Hunting!
