What's the point of having market keep goods?

I know market provides tax but what’s the point of it stocking up goods if villagers would still go to storages and production building to stock on stuff? We cannot call it a closer storage cause they go to the one closer to where they are not the one closer to house.

Right now most of food in market spoils cause everyone is taking food from root cellar and visit the market only if the task to stock shelter triggers when they are nearby.

Right now it seems there is an inefficiency in how the storage works, as there are now a few threads popping up describing different scenarios where villagers opt to take something from the least likely place. I’m sure this is something they will work out and then the market would make absolute sense

I think it’s something that was triggered together with Temp shelter being used more. They now look for closest place with stuff they need and totally ignore market full of goods. Also the description of market is really misleading cause it says that the goods are distributed from market to houses but that is definitely not happening.

I like that the home plays an important part in the game and that people spend time between work, commute, own needs and being idle. So villager grabbing something close to him on his way home makes sense. A villager running from his home, past the market to the other side of town is a bit weird. And it’s not like they even have to pay at the market and that it is free somewhere else.

Now I’m wondering how luxury item(Candles, Pottery, etc) are distributed, are they exclusively through markets? Meaning a villager wont be able to grab candles directly from the candle maker… I’ll check it out.

It’s the same as any other goods. As soon as they show up in storage or production building villagers rush there to get it way before market stocks it.

Marketplace goods on standby makes it for really efficient trading if you have a healthy supply of them without making an impact on your community. Since traders are there for a set amount of time and it takes multiple days to stock it, having that on standby for the next trader can get you a few thousand ingots if you have that amount. Pay attention to the price indicators. Some pay higher than others and sell higher as well or lower.

@Katavaria market is not the same as trading post fyi

My apologies. I read that wrong. For the market it is good for getting passive gold income from your houses. The further your house is on the tier list the more you will get. You actually have to pay gold taxes for services so the purpose of the marketplace is to counter that.

Edit

It also provides your citizens with a faster access point to goods that you provide for their shelter and overall health and happiness. If you do not have a marketplace chances are you’re going to be in debt and your citizens will leave due to being unhappy. It also can help with the desirability factor and helping to not have your shelters abandoned as well. Overall it is a pretty important and crucial amenity.

The issue is that it’s not. They take from whenever is closer to the place they are. Market is stocking a lot of food that spoils due to market not being good for keeping it and villagers still taking it from all around but not from the market.

I haven’t personally had this issue because I always kept the root cellars right next to the cropland and I keep the marketplace and the housing district away from that. Which is probably why I haven’t seen this issue.

The wording for markets seems to imply the market will deliver to the people’s homes to save them time?

It doesn’t they have to go there themselves and since they are usually not close to home or market they take from storage and production buildings while market fills up with spoiling food.

In Banished, villagers won’t take stuff in storage buildings if their house is in a radius of a market, and of course if the item they need is in the market stock. The market has always the “priority” over other storage buildings. IMHO it’s a needed change in Farthest Frontier.

In Banished, people choose homes near their workplace so they’re not having to stock a home, a temporary shelter, and a work hut. They only have to stock food in one place.

I agree, but for now market’s purpose is somewhat impaired in Farthest Frontier, apart from the gold aspect of course.
