Hi, I’m considering sinking a lot of hours into this game because lightning builds have very satisfying animations. That’s actually the main reason I’m thinking about playing it.
Right now I’m completely lost and don’t even know where to start looking for a good lightning build. There are way too many guides on YouTube, and I have no idea which class is the best. On top of that, most of the lightning build guides I can find are several years old, so I’m not sure if they’re still relevant.
What I’m looking for is the best class, skills, and gear progression for a pure lightning build, from a fresh start all the way to the endgame. Could you recommend a solid YouTube video or a written guide?

Remember that there will soon be a patch update and realease of a new expansion so this “list” will be subject to big changes.
Anyway, as you can see on that list, the lightning retalation warder is on top. But it is not super-flashy. You can also see a lightning build on spot 22.
Primal Strike Shaman is a great starter build and for your second mastery you can pick a lot of good ones a classic being Arcanist for a Primal Strike Druid.
Storm totem + Maelstrom shaman is also very flashy, easy to gear and play. Just place totems and kite around and watch the world get electrocuted. Second mastery can be almost anything that supports lightning/elemental damages, very flexible.
pick a skill you like, find a guide for that
Best skill/class guide for levelling will not necessarily be the same for endgame, some builds don’t even play the same levelling as endgame.
Right now you have a lightning retal build as the top dog, but it’s not remotely the same levelling or the same “lightning” style as ex Primal Strike is.
If you want to play Primal Strike, do that/use ex Dragon’s? written guide (i don’t remember if there was a more recent for spam version - age doesn’t always invalidate everything, just use a more recent for endgame)
If you like Totems or Devils use that, or if you think Stun Jacks or Grenado is fun do that.
Lightning Callidor’s tempest or lightning AAR if that’s your jam etc etc.
Identify the skill first you wanna play, then use the guide.
I really love to get some kind of lightning melee build which needs very few buttons to press for boss and aoe, its possible to get what I ask? also as flashy as possible xD
But skip the savagery part, and select the transmute for primal strike instead. I.e. aim for something like this (I also supposed you are not a HC guy so I changed the exclusive for more power) and I also changed the shoulders and medal.

Both should get you do a point where you can run skeleton key dungeons and shattered realm in ultimate to get insane looot
