I ended up in a situation where I hade way to few general workers in my village. This resulted in a situation where housing started to fall behind in maintanance. Over time a lot of buildings fell behind in maintanance and soon the game is only about handling worker numbers and manually selecting buildings for maintanance. The process of recovering from this situation takes IMHO to long. I have been doing virtually only maintanance and things to promote numbers of workers for many many years. After this effort I am now up to, at the moment, 148 out of 158 recommended general workers and 80 (!) dedicated builders. But the lack of maintanace just never ends! More and more houses keep getting low on maintance regadless it seems. With 80 workers one would have assumed the maintanance work would be completed in a jiffy, and above all, that it would not increase (!). I am suspecting the slow recovery is dependant on some other factor, such as avilability of planks (?). The eagle eyed will see that I only have 14 planks, but this is deceptive. The village procduces 1000+ planks a year which seems like a production rate that should cover the maintanance need (?). And it doesn’t seems as the buildings that are deemed not livable/useable are not prioritized as several of them just not get mended. I have several buildings that has eventually borken down and that therefore needs rebuilding. As virtually all efforts are going into maintanance, the buildings that colapses will simply not be rebuilt for years and years.
Why does not the endless maintanace work end? IMHO there seems to be an inabalance here.
