So one thing I’ve noticed running SR80-81 Zantarin can delete a build’s health faster than I can react and it’s a bit random if you’ll notice what he’s about to do. The vitality decay he also hits with stacks way to easily and can easily kill off a build that doesn’t have active or on proc health regen/circuit breakers.
I suspect the main reason is physical damage he’s been stacked with, which has definitely made 30+ physical resist a necessity in SR80+. But it’s a bit galling when I can eat Moo’s heavy physical overhead attacks, but get deleted by Zantarin when I have 47% PR and 109% Vitality resist.
Teh Build:
Usually he’s dicey, but doable with the above build in my SR80-81 runs. And yes, the devotion path is weird, but it works due to conversion
In SR nemesi and bosses are given physical damage which scales with the shard rank and mutators from memory. Which is why physical resist has become very, very important for survivability for builds that don’t have damage absorb.
it only applies to enemies actually using it
Zantarin is a pure caster, with 0 attacks/spells using weapon dmg on top, so his native phys dmg is irrelevant since it’s never used/applied
as to the rng of the deaths, you sure you’re not accidentally eating his shotgun? (which you’re supposed to avoid?)
*not an argument for not nerfing him, just questioning your immediate reasoning at play
Ah, my mistake then, I thought even casters were gifted with physical damage ;-;
And no, I haven’;t eaten his shotgun for a while now, hell I run right away when he does the wind up because I’ve been hit by it even dodging or using movement skills >_< I swear it’s got some tracking built in now lawl.
But yeah, I was just facetanking him and then suddenly my health hit bingo without a chance to slam on blade barrier to save my arse. Which with this build’s glassiness, is something I have to do with any boss that lays on stacking DoTs (IM, Fabius etc) or when my CB’s are on cooldown.
Had both vit and acid pots used to no avail. Seems it’s the auto attack that somehow is doing obscene damage. Definitely odd, more so given he’s sitting in a pool of BWC getting his damage reduced.
[edit] - Got some footage recorded of my health getting deleted, but this time managed to hit BB in time to save myself. Took a minute to kill him due to having to hit and run because despite all the adcth I’ve stacked, I can’t sustain my health off attacking him.
if it’s not his shotgun i wonder if it’s the same thing Lee encountered with his regular nova
edit, unsure if this was the exact post i was thinking of highlighitng it or actually a different one (since this one is also about zantarin)
*keep in mind, i’d maintain the notion that if someone actually dies to his shotgun we’re in “skill issue” realm, and wouldnt’ warrant a nerf, other dmg/death related stuff i have stake in tho
Right, video of the fun I was bashing my head against, you can see Ghoul getting triggered right the fluff away:
Even with pots it was still a hit and run fight. And only just managed to hit blade barrier in the nick of bloody time too. Nicely shows too how his auto attack just deletes my health bar despite everything I was using lawl.
Might be due to fact this build only has 29% overcap on acid resist, but with the pot that should have been fine against his debuff.
In reference to my playthroughs with my other builds I’ve been testing - I’ve seen the same behaviour, it just wasn’t as noticeable due to those builds having higher adcth, health or absorb etc. So while their health similarly gets hit hard, they don’t die as easily as this one does.
Hmmmn, might be I can invest some more points in VF for health regen to help with this, but it probably wont be that effective if my modelling is correct…
It’s not the shotgun nova attack that’s killing mad_lee’s build, it’s the projectile burst attack with 3 projectiles that’s triggered when Zantarin holds his hand up. Watch the vids clearly or slowed down and you’ll see it be the death-knell
And it’s not an attack you can easily avoid either since he has no wind-up animation for it.
I think the problem is the 6-12% reduction in enemy health, which from memory is based off total health, not current. So if you’re at low health it’ll kill you easily. Easiest way to check would be to remove the health reduction, but I’m not versed enough in the mod tools to do that. Nor functional enough due to my ADHD to learn how to at the moment ;-;
otherway around, based of current not total, unless that was recently changed
^it does have a “bug” tho and can apply all at once instead of staggered
anywa, while it’s his auto that "kills Lee, it’s not the deciding factor since it’s very much the nova that brings him to the knees/in killable range to begin with
for you/your vid i’d say it’s both that and extra stuff
like the zillion skeletons you have loading you up phys dmg etc,
but also, very low HP for SR 85 to begin with (imo)
you’re basically taking a bunch of direct dmg from zantarin,
and hp dmg
and then direct dmg from skeletons and hp dmg from them too
so if you eat like just a single round of attacks “at the same time” that’s a bunch of applied HP dmg, even if we account for your vit res reducing it (vit res applies to %hp dmg too)
when you have that many skeletons, potentially eating bursts from zantarin and knights+revenants “at teh same time”, i could imagine a dozen or so projectiles quickly adding up
The health’s “fine” for SR81 (it’s not 85 lawl, not even trying that on this build) because with good piloting and threat assessment it does alright with that health. I’d prefer a load more, but that’s saboteurs for you as a class, notoriously low on bloody health even with both mastery bars maxed out. But thanks to dodge it can gtfo out danger really easily now Which allows me to string mobs out and pick them off when they pile up.
And I can’t exactly kill of the skeletons without Zant firing off more novas or the bloody shotgun. Usually other stuff takes care of them and thins the horde out, but as can be seen in the videos the thing causing the health bars to plummet is his direct attack, not the novas. Which can be seen if you play the vids slowly or can easily process them at normal play speed like I can.
Anyhow, ending my play test at the moment because I ran right into the Manifestations of Hunger and they are pure bs at present due to their stupid unavoidable sunder attack. And I am hungry, but a certain someone’s hogging the fucking kitchen because they decided to fuck around on cooking again T_T
i’d personally not find it “fine” even for 75-76 like, i think 15k is barely comfortable there on otherwise tanky layered toons
anyways, like i said, not arguing against a nerf since i have no stake in that non-shotgun attack race, but atleast “on appearance”, to me, looks “totally normal” there or atleast within what i’d consider potentially reasonable.
Should def get additional opinions tho, also why i linked Lee’s thread just to show you’re note totally alone in having noticed weird stuff. @mad_lee ?
And while i def wouldn’t dare to directly ping Zanta(r)i(n) himself for it and get his direct assessment on your video evidence, if enough players chimes in, i’m sure he’ll give the thread more than just a cursory glance before utterly rejecting the notion of his own dmg being nerf worthy here
Zantarin can be punishing but fair. OP approached him in Shard 80 with a very gimmicky build with very low hp for this kind of shard, it’s expected that they get in trouble.
Oh it’s hardly a gimmick, it handles SR75-76 beautifully, though the Trickster version works better, besides this build is based on your old Stormheart sab lawl. Health’s lower than it should be due to me not taking the right rolls on the rings.
And the deaths happen in SR81, not SR80 /cough
Now if we’re’s talking gimmick - that would be my TSS 100% global lightning to cold spellbreaker, glassy as hell, dies in a stiff breeze and utterly fun to play :3
[edit] - I also have a SR armour version, but haven’t redone the double greens it uses yet, that would be far more tanky than this, but with less damage due to lack of cold and pierce to lightning conversion that the Stormserpent gives.
True, but with the reductions to loot drops at SR75-76 it’s looking like 80-81 is the sweet spot for time vs loot. As SR seems to still be the best place to farm nemesi MI’s.
He’s back to his old ways of deleting Shadow strike users from existence, because his projectile shotgun has longer windup now. So he starts charging it, you SS into him, and eat the whole cast in your face.
Other than that (and one unfortunate case involving way too many skeleton archers), I haven’t seen much of damage bursts from him.
Gimmicks can sometimes be decent in some farming areas, that is true. But even Lightning Trickster is a gimmick, Lightning Sabo is even more of a gimmick really: there is not enough synergy from skills and support from gear to make it as strong as Cold or Fire or Chaos Sabo for example.
Damn thing deletes nemesi and bosses and is relatively sturdy in SR80-81. It will die if you make a mistake (i.e. Benn’jhar’s bloody sunder mines), but it can eat Kaisan’s sunder and still kill him if his crystals aren’t up in SR80-81 and laughs in the face of Zantiran’s 3 projectile attack. As the Stormserpent set allows it to work surprisingly well and hardcapped Savagery brings disgusting amounts of damage.
But yeah, lightning sabo definitely needs more gear support, as even Stormserpent isn’t enough to bring it up to the same place as the other types. Just up to SR75-76 and the easier Celestials levels
Now if only my ADHD would kindly fuck off and let me do the stuff I need to get the lightning trickster posted…
