Zoom Range Adjustments

I have been playing this game for countless hours now and it seems one thing above all others could change for the better with the least amount of adjustment required by the devs (at least i think, I’m not coder. Just an engineer with a little comp sci background). That one thing is to the slide the zoom scale 2 clicks out.

I think this is a solid plan for several reasons and here are my top few:

  1. The bottom few levels of zoom are nice but nearly useless to the gameplay (in my opinion). Let’s get rid of the last 2 clicks on the mousewheel from full zoom in. Here is some visual evidence to support my opinion.

Really love the detail. Very immersive, you can follow someone around town and see it through their eyes! I mean, if you want to. This game is a builder and that’s nice and all but damn it, sacrifices can be made for the common good. Here is 2 mousewheel scrolls out:

I’m not sure what I am missing in between these two levels and I think we can do without them entirely. Alternatively, these levels could be preserved but only accessible in a “photo mode” or some such where gameplay is limited or only frozen. I say ditch them altogether and the main reason is point #2.

  1. This game is slow. Real slow at times. I have a maxed out village and it crawls and crashes. There is simply too much data available and I believe that removing some of the detail from the super zoomed in levels could increase the overall speed of the game, possible significantly. Again, I am not a computer scientist but logic seems to state that if there are less objects and surfaces and overall details in the game, there are less things to load and animate, etc which should lead to increased performance. Please correct me if I am wrong, I love to learn.

  2. We need more zoom out!!! 2 more levels should do for now at least. The good news is that these levels already exist in the game as shown in the next 2 pics.

Supposed max zoom out:

Nearly full possible max zoom out (there’s taller mountains but my city center is by this one so…):

I had a previous forum topic and people repeatedly insisted we need more zoom like Blue Oyster Cult needed more cowbell. Since the mountaintop zoom level already exists in game, I don’t think it would be too much of a stretch to make it available map-wide.

I think that is enough since this is clearly tldr already to I’ll just thank those of you that read the whole thing and welcome any feedback that supports my views. Just kidding, please rip into me if necessary or just for fun and let’s make this game even better together.

I compleatly disagree with loosing the last 2 clicks of zoom in! While I do agree with more zoom out, the devs have already said that it won’t happen. There is a mod out there that will give you much more zoom out if you want it.

I also would like to say that my computer will run the game beautifly at 1000 pop. I do not wish to offend and I absolutly understand your frustration with the game slowing down at higher population levels. That is why I recently purchased a “gaming computer” to solve that issue. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi. And how did it get much better with the purchase of a gaming computer? It’s just that I also have a great gaming computer, but the game constantly crashes and sometimes slows down, especially when thermoforming!

My knowledge of computers is limited and as I said I don’t want to offend anyone! I just wanted to say a better computer than what I had solved all of my issues with crashes and slow performance. I can only relay my experiances. I did not intend to say that a new computer was the answer. So sorry for the missunderstanding!

So does your game work flawlessly?

Yes it does, with the exception of the known ‘bugs’ within the game.

Just because they say they won’t change it now doesn’t mean it won’t happen. The more people that want it, the more likely they’ll do it if it’s feasible and it clearly is if there’s a mod out there that does it and the mountains already zoom you out further.

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics 3.20 GHz
RAM 32 GB
64-bit operating system x64-based processor
Windows 11 Pro version 22H2

I copied this from the About page on my computer and it is new and only has 4 Steam games and some internet bookmarks.

I hope this info helps as I know nothing about which processor may be better than another only that FF runs without hesitations or crashes.
