Maybe only 10 population higher, but suddenly these services cannot keep up as they were on 0.7.3 on my city.
Work rates were not changed in the update for those buildings.
@Zantai hence why I think there may be an issue, other people are referencing it happening to them too. see What's going on with the Rat Catcher? - #11 by star
That was a report from days ago, before the update; and it appears their issue is resolved.
@Zantai I was referencing the reply by Star that was yesterday, not the original poster’s report
Which was also before the update.
@Zantai hmm i thought it was after it. i wonder why suddenly after the update i’m having capacity issues.
Could have been serendipitous timing where update happened around when your town was on the verge of needing more services.
@Zantai that’s possible, but I’m skeptical. because I have a little suburb of like 12-16 houses that have their own dedicated nightsoil gatherer and they’re not getting serviced at all as far as I can tell
edit: suburb, and it’s closer to 24 houses https://i.imgur.com/ABghlHx.jpg
One thing that did occur to me is that i could have hit a deficiency in the services AI - maybe it’s not selecting the closest Nightsoil harvester for servicing, and instead my nightsoil harvesters are going all over the map instead
edit: I just checked, this is quite possibly the issue. the gal that is supposed to be serving the suburb is coming back from the main village
@Zantai i’ve updated the thread title to what appears to be the real issue
Well, that’s not a bug then, haha. Compost Yard serves the entire town, otherwise we’d have given it a work area.
You may just need another one to make sure they get to all the houses.
I would call it a bug, as it is not realistic to how
A) players would expect it to work
B) real world workers would behave (excluding being paid extra by the wealthy to serve them first)
I do have another one building but it is slow going as I am not keeping up on planks with demand. i need to pause my city’s growth and just catch up on raw resources for a bit.
I also had a feature suggestion for nightsoil anyway: Nightsoil composter should have upgrade tiers, and more workforce
It doesn’t matter how many I add when the AI is horribly inefficient. First thing is the house the person lives at may be all the way across the city from where the compost yard is, and not the houses closer to the yard. There is apparently no way to even adjust where they live. Then the worker will run all over the far side of town instead of doing the closer side. So this greatly increases his travel time to absurd levels because each trip to the yard takes so much longer and then when he needs to eat or take a break he spends a long trip going home. Putting multiple yards around town doesn’t help because each one will still run all over the place. And having more yards than farms eventually just leaves you with full yards. Once you get over a certain size city things just start going to crap as workers spend too much time traveling around and there is no way to deal with it at all.
Giving it a work area would at least be a far better option. The optimal solution would be to have the worker find a home nearest where they work. Go to houses based on proximity to the yard and the need for pick up.
Yup, worker housing selection, AI task prioritization, transfers between storage, etc all needs a serious improvement.
@Zantai I know you don’t consider it a bug, but i’m hoping to convince you here. A few more thoughts
Workers (in general, not specifically this) should hopefully select housing that is close to their place of work if possible.
Workers should prioritize based on proximity and need - aka a house that is close by to a waste collector that has a lot piled up should be served first over one farther away with little piled up
I think it would be fair to also give higher tier housing a boost to priority - but not ahead of places complaining about being piled up, or very close to waste collector… because the rich pay more
similar logic can apply to other professions regardless of if they do or don’t have a service radius.
