[1.0.2.1]Elementalist - with the greatest power comes with great responsibilities

Why did you chug a spirit pot in the first place though? Cuz you’re not self sustaining. You realize 99% of builds out there ARE self sustaining right?

Look man… I really don’t care how 99% of the builds out there perform… this is my build and I enjoy it a lot. Even if all those builds don’t need energy potion, so what?

At the end of the day, I don’t want to continue this argument on the internet. I think we can just agree to disagree. If this build requiring energy potion means having energy issue for you, then so be it. But just take into consideration that there are also people out there that don’t mind hitting the E button once every while.

Energy drinks cost nothing and drop like candy. You have an energy problem only if you cannot sustain even while chain popping them.

Otherwise who cares?

very nice build i will defenetly try it!
about the skills, which should i priorytize? there are many active skills in the build and its easy to get lost…

Sounds like a very interesting build I have to try that on my own too.

Don’t really like your name but I’ll try your build.

Procs = love

Thanks for making me goto bed at 4am  I’m fairly new to the game but i did try lots of builds but none of them entertained me more then this one. Its a BLAST

Just wanted to post an update… I don’t get to play for long periods lately, but I made it to level 40 last night.

The amount of damage that comes from having elites stand in 6x thermite mines with flame torrents, alongside fissured Blackwater cocktails is absolutely insane.

I had a few close calls while pushing my luck (the hunt for devotion shrines has brought me to some odd places that i’d never been to, like Tyrant’s Hold) so I started investing in Wendigo totem before Maelstrom, and it’s done a world of difference. Getting Blast Shield helped give me a buffer for facetanking, and with some good drops for +Health and +HP regen, I’ve yet to die.

Just got through the Darkvale Gate, into Askeran Valley, and the only things that have been annoying so far are the Chillmane guys who do ground slams from afar.

I put BWC on my right click, and didn’t take the node that gives them a cooldown, so now i’m spamming those like crazy, and the fissure procs are almost constant. I generally throw 2 or 3 onto a mob, and at least 1 of them will trigger into a fissure.

Got a Groble Sky Effigy at level 20, been using it ever since, and the Storm Totems are a great source of dps for catching “runners” who’ll flee after my initial salvo of mines and BWC. Mainhand i’ve been using epics(blues) that have high % lightning or % fire damage… From 20 to 35 I was using an Officer’s Longsword rare (green) which has the +5%exp gained attribute, which combined with a +5% xp medal felt like I was gaining levels fairly regularly. (I don’t have a high level toon that can get the +xp potions from Malmouth yet…)

All things considered, this build does as advertised, and I can’t wait to unlock Ultos and Meteor Swarm.

While Leveling, what gear do you advice? What are the best stats to tend for DPS?

Thanks

Another question about gameplay, i’m still new, By what spell do you replace devouring swarm?

I wish this build was available when I started, a true gear independant build! Here is my feedback and questions.

I’m currently lvl 50 and just killed Loghorrean on veteran. Bosses die VERY fast, it feels like bosses are easier to fight than normal mobs  All those guys I used to be scared of (Alkamos, Commander Lucius, the Sentinel) lasted mere seconds while I was running around them.

I’m playing cautiously and haven’t died yet, but it is a veteran difficulty, lets see how it goes.

My big question is how do I utilize all those skills? It gets increasingly complicated. I only use thermite mines, storm totem, wind devils and now I took stun jacks and I feel I cannot use anything else. Flashbang, blackwater coctail, wendigo totem, grasping wines? I have a gaming mouse and I think I have to utilize all those additional buttons and macros.

And another question, you mentioned an effigy that lets you have additional Storm Totem (so 4 total?). But with the cooldowns I usually can only use two at a time (three if I watch cooldowns closely). So how can you have four storm totems?

Yeah you do need to keep spamming all those skills…

My play style is usually toss out grasping vine and keep kiting back while throwing all the shit that’s not on cd.

maybe you need a higher lv version of effigy? Also there’s a wind devil effigy as well, if you get that, redo your skill. Drop agonizing flame and cut back on some mastery to max wind devil.

Make sure you get as high DA as possible!

DA is super important.

Glad you’re enjoying this. When you get into ultimate, make sure you have max res and good DA. I would shoot for at least 2100 and aim for 2500+ at the end of ultimate. As a caster you want to have 2600+ for crucible I would say.

A tip that I’ll share with you about this, is that all your buffs can go on your secondary bar (press Y by default) so that you can just use your main bar for skills.

My setup personally (i’m not the build creator), i’ve got:

1 and 2 as HP /Energy pots.
3 - Thermite Mines
4 - Stun Jacks
5 - Storm Totem
Q - Wendigo Totem
W - Wind Devil
E - Flashbang
R - Grasping Vines
T - <Unassigned>

M1 - Move only
M2 - Blackwater Cocktail

So as you can see, i’ve remapped some keys, because I didn’t like having the numbers all the way to 0 on the top row, layering 2 rows of 5.

All the other slots on the alternate bar are buffs that you turn on and leave on (Mogpact, Flame Touched, Vindictive flame, etc)

Yeah, I always have the buffs on the second tab. I use the macro and now I launch several spells with one click (grasping wines, stun jacks, wind devil and storm totem), and thermite mines with another. I’m thinking of combining therminte mines and blackwater cocktail in one click too.

Just completed the expansion on veteran with no death and one close call, I’m lvl 60. Tomorrow starting Elite.

Has anyone played around with this build in hardcore? Or, how survivable do people feel with the build in softcore?

This is a really silly post. If you are energy neutral with energy pots you don’t have a problem. In fact, a build that uses energy pots to remain energy-neutral is arguably more efficient than one that doesn’t; if you aren’t using energy pots you have spent more resources (whether skills, stats or devotions) on regenerating energy than you needed to, and those points could have gone into increasing damage or survivability.

Obviously most builds solve this problem naturally because they aren’t as mana-intensive, but unless your energy is directly tied to your survival AND you are not energy-neutral, using pots to sustain energy is not only fine, but optimal.

Do not try this build in HC… I think caster without perfect gear is really sub-par when it comes to HC play right now…

This builds does shit load of damage. However, with 2800 DA my character sometimes still dies in Ultimate.

But then again my laptop is so bad that I usually play with a lag. So you could have better luck.

First off, I haven’t tried it. But this build looks really good. I’m already imagining how it would perform and it already looks good on paper. This is probably one of the most offensive true caster builds I’ve seen that relies solely on it’s skill kit for survivability, without the Hourglass gimmicks, and just goes all out on offense.

God knows this game needs more of these kinds of caster builds.

Only ten levels since yesterday, but I’m so happy I wanna share! I was expecting Elite to be harder than Veteran, but it’s a cakewalk (act 3 currently). I took Gutz’ advice and prioritized +skills equipment and defences (offence currently greatly outmatches any boss). So now I have +4 all skiils and +1 demolitionist skills, unlocked all devotions but one, overcapped resistances, 11000 health and 2000 DA (bosses cannot crit me). All that equipment from previous playthroughs obviously. I’m grateful that Gutz posted this build without equipment, because surprisingly it gave me ultimate freedom of choice. (If there was a list of BiS items, I’d just skipped this build because I don’t have those).

I abuse my gaming mouse (more buttons and macros) and it solved my problem with too many skills to spam.

I run out of mana from time to time, but drinking a potion is not a problem.

I usually don’t make adjustments to builds, I don’t understand game mechanics enough, but in this build I changed blackwater cocktail to canister bomb, because one bomb covers a bigger area and that spares me additional clicking.

Currently I stopped running around and just face tank everything, including some bosses. (LOL ‘facetank’! I just watch them struggling to get to me thru grasping wines, stunned and confused. And even if some hero manages to hit me and not miss, he is lucky to leave a dent in my health bar.) And I didn’t even take Wendigo Totem! So this is my question, should I invest in Wendigo Totem or any “boss facetanking” is impossible in Ultimate and I better run around (Wendigo Totem useless then)?

update: I just killed Karroz in Darkvale Gate, I was standing still and my blast shield didn’t even trigger!
