Backer Rewards and DRM-Free Copy

So just DL it and stop posting each day.

Piracy is bad mmmkay, I didn’t buy the game so I could steal it.

Then stop making stupid comments when you know Crate is working on getting your DRM free key.

Each day you make a comment when it is not needed anymore. You put in your 2 cents 30 times too many (Possible exaggeration) and it is uncalled for.

You know the situation. To continue making comments about it is just plain, lack of a better word, silly.

Since you bought it already would it actually be stealing?

If we were talking about physical goods, yup, that would be stealing. Software residing in the digital realm is a different conversation entirely as it can be copied and replicated ad nauseum, every copy completely identical to the other and in infinite supply. Kinda changes the game and perspective a tad. Personally, if I bought it and something happened and I somehow lost access to re-download it for whatever reason, if I wanted to play it bad enough I wouldn’t lose much sleep for acquiring it elsewhere.

Regardless I would just wait. Once the drm-free version is out you can rest assured it too will appear on the torrents without the need to be cracked. As I’m sure Crate is fully aware of.

This is a genuine and deserved thread of concern. While there was no doubt in my mind about buying this game, I have reconsidered.

First let me say that from what I saw, and I haven’t played yet, it feels like a steal to me to pay 2X$ for Grim Dawn. I’d have paid 59.99$ no questions asked!I want to congratulate Crate for having delivered on the impossible task of creating an AAA studio worthy FULL ARPG having started as a 1-man or so army. The lead dev. got the vision and had the will to do what he did took big risks I suppose and it’s a success beyond expectations.

Now, from my point of view, the “lemmings” in this justified thread that might have had a part in Crate maybe losing purchases and praise by thinking they do good to act as a shield and derailers for mistakes that the lead developer has acknowledged and said is sorry for are not smart.

So you paid under 100 euros when it was safe, I mean the game was in shape. You’re not an investor or “backer”. You’re a buyer. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

Versus

Early investors paying 100++ euros, with maybe a 2 Act campaign delivered and a miracle would have to happen to get a GG ARPG, years and years ago.

And you call this guy entitled. Well boys, the entitled are clearly you coming here and posting your rubbish in their faces.

I understand why Crate did it this way. And you can too if you think about it. However it sure isn’t fair and respectful for their most loyal, generous and “risk” taking contributors that have allowed them to have something sweet developed for Steam EarlyA and so on. Now if DRM free wasn’t in the backing supporters plans, no problem. If it said that the DRM would not be part of the game release but delivered later without the launcher and/or patching strategy expected for an ARPG game that does treat no-DRM in
the same way as DRM as they let it sound, no problem.

Now some lemmings or customers don’t approve of early backers being mad, calling them entitled?

The thing is that they’re not late or overwhelmed, the decision to not get the DRM free .exe out at release was a long-standing decision. The decision to not have a launcher for patching distribution (torchlight 2 had a patcher for the no-steam versions obviously for example; to me Grim Dawn is way above TL2 in every aspect grats Crate u got an ARPG that’s among the best of the best in the genre  well besides one aspect :P) has not being lololol ?? overlooked but was taken a LONG time ago. This is a complex feature to implement and development is done way ahead of release. This GoG sand in the eyes situation that some are focusing on we don’t care. Not distributing the DRM-free executable in any form whatsoever at release is the concerning matter for some.

If GD started its funding today, it is possible Crate would not have offered a DRM free release at all in today’s circumstances, their business plans etc. But this is not the case.

However, this was, albeit dramatically, perfectly explained by eNTI.

Now I took the time to write this post to tell those that resort to “hipster” or JCDenton is a name that means ure a lolol or XD u entitled haha!! that u should steer away from this legitimate thread as you are potentially losing Crate some sales since they have to tolerate your postings here as you’re long standing members of the forums community but to me at least you guys have a negative influence on this topic for potential new buyers (that’s not what you want I guess). D3 is TOTAL DRM (0 Zero copies have been hacked as some engine assets are run from their servers only; their thing is very well done no one can play single player without a valid key logged-in and game’s been out for years) and I love it and I supported the AAA devs for what they did to the game at the start and in years, even if I’m not wealthy, by buying way over 1000$ USD of copies (I don’t bot and no maphack crap-hud either don’t worry) because I enjoy it very much and to me they deserve since I played a lot too. But they delivered on their promises and they corrected their mistakes. Expecting promises to be fulfilled, promises you paid $$$ with joy for, has nothing to do with GoG wars: assault of the hipsters and tree huggers granola against the evil DRM hahaha lolol or whatever other trolling some guys imply. If I was a major supporter of Grim Dawn and then u 29.99$ guys well anyway I end this with facepalm it too long already.

There is nothing whatsoever “uncalled for” about pointing out that after 4 years, they CHOSE to release it to only some customers. That was their CHOICE. They are not victims. They planned poorly and then made the choice to release it anyway.

Let them offer refunds. They didn’t meet their obligations and chose to release it anyway.

You act as if something happened to them. They made these choices and did it all on their own. Hell, they don’t even KNOW gog’s policies after a year of “negotiations,” while us regular customers have done this enough that they know it! That is insane!!!

Legally, yes it is.

mmmmm… not quite.

He actually owns the game. Bought and paid for.

This works the same with emulators. If you own a nes game for example you can’t be taken to court (for downloading the digital ROM of the game) if you can prove you do in fact own the game cartridge. This may vary country to country but my understanding is that this is so.

The same principle could apply here.

This does not look to be true.

" I found an article that discusses the fair use policy and the Motion Picture Association (U.S.) in recent court cases.

As far as the specific (U.S.) laws, they state that uploading or downloading (or sharing in any manner) motion pictures (and other copyright material), is illegal. There are no special provisions for circumstances where you already own a copy. Fair Use limits users under common law, and that’s been a focus of debate as to what extent one can exercise that provision. So for this argument (aside from the first link I gave you), I can’t point to any other specific instance where it states that copying someone else’s DVD is legal if you own a copy. I can only state “my interpretation” which is that backing up your purchased copy for your own use is legal, but to obtain any other copy (than the one you purchased), is not."

I understand that… And to each his own… But to beat the bloody thread to a DEAD HORSE is uncalled for. This is how it should be done:

1- Voice your situation/opinion/complaint/disturbance
2- Receive an answer/explanation from the devs to the situation/opinion/complaint/disturbance
3- Either accept/decline said proposal and take the steps needed…

My point is that I see JC post EVERYDAY, getting the same answers that was in the original posting and it is useless… He has had 55 posts ALL ABOUT THE SAME THING.

Complaining about his DRM Free copy and blah blah blah when he knows ALL the answers to his inquiries.

Just wait it out and stop posting each day knowing the answers. It won’t happen faster because it is being posted each day.

Piracy exists, but not on these forums. I do not want to see it, if it comes up in other threads, please report it. I will delete threads like crazy when I see it here, so if I accidentally got your post. Sorry.

This site is for people that buy the game.

It can though. They could offer refunds. That wouldn’t be hard and could be done immediately.

We also do not know all the answers. I haven’t seen an answer as to why the game was released knowing only some people could play it. I also don’t see a reason that they did not even devise a way to get the cruddy humble drm free version operational when they had 4 years to prepare.

Never said it couldn’t … But that would be in private… Not a public thread. day after day. Multiple times a day.

But there is also a virtue called patience, which might also be lacking in some.

I bought 2 legendary keys before there even was a KS, you might want to reconsider your argument, because it is plain false…

However it sure isn’t fair and respectful for their most loyal, generous and “risk” taking contributors that have allowed them to have something sweet developed for Steam EarlyA and so on.

the vast majority of those are happily playing instead of going ballistic over a few days delay

There is no correlation between early supporter and posting in this thread, foaming at the mouth that there is no DRM free version yet

No one said you have no point, but we are talking a few days here, while you guys pretend like the world is ending. Try to keep some perspective here…

everyone can play, the vast majority does. A few people decided to rather wait for the DRM free version than play now and switch over when it is available in a few days. Get your facts straight…

I understand that you want the drm-free version of Grim Dawn, I do too.

But Medierra says that we will probably have it by the end of the week, so while I am also annoyed that we cannot download and play the game yet, I think we can wait a week longer…

We waited very long through the Steam reserved alpha and beta, so we should be able to handle a week more where Steam users get all and we nothing…

Thank you for being patient. The other DRM Free community members need to follow your example.

The DRM-free members had been patient since the beta. I would be far more patient if the Crate had warned us ahead of time we would get nothing upon release, because it would at least show they hadn’t forgotten that part of their customer base. It will bring on the brown-shirts, but Crate messed the launch up and it’s hard to know your preferred distribution is an afterthought.

and when more or less my digital content of the editing loyalist?

The game wasn’t really released, that’s all. I can play on Steam just like before, and the people who can’t or don’t wanna use Steam, they can’t, just like before the “release”. I can’t really see what has changed. The game is even content complete for a while now and patches will still come.
