(I deleted, as this is no longer needed)
Waiting on GOG version because I will never touch Steam ever again. Been waiting on this game since I beat Titan Quest Immortal Throne. Passed up Diablo 3 and Path of Exile because I believed both were inferior to Grim Dawn. The art, atmosphere, and gameplay mechanics all look top-knotch.
I bought it in the Humble store in December 2014. At that time, the order page clearly stated that you would get “DRM-free version on release date”.
I even have a confirmation of this from Humble support. So now you’re telling me that I will NOT get a GoG key???
You’re in the worst case.
It seems you have to ask a refund from HB or Crate, and use it to buy at GOG’.
By the way, since long I had no longer confidence in the HumbleBundle store about drm-free; you too now I guess…
BtW2, I had so much problems with Kickstaters becoming Steamstarters than the Crate issue ends it for me: No more KS.
Well it depends. Did you buy it via the Grim Dawn web site, if so the payment was processed by the Humble Store.
Or, did you buy it directly from the Humble Store’s web site? If so, then you don’t get the DRM-free version.
The only ones getting the DRM-free version are KS backers and those that bought from the Grim Dawn web site.
Finally, what does the email from Humble say?
I bought it from the Humble store.
Here’s the conversation I had (back then) with Humble support about this:
Q: “with the version that I bought yesterday in the Humble Store, will I still get the DRM-free version once the game is released?”
A: “Once Grim Dawn is fully released, we should be receiving the DRM-Free version of the game from the developers of Grim Dawn.”
Q: “I understand that YOU will get the DRM-free version of the game once it’s released. My question was, if my current purchase will then automatically be updated to include the DRM-free version (or does my current purchase only include the Steam key, and will I have to purchase the DRM-free version of the game separately from you, once the game is released) ?”
A: “You should get the DRM-Free version too once it’s available.”
That doesn’t leave much room for interpretation, does it?
Sounds like you should take that up with Humble since it was a conversation with their support person.
omg how do i know if i got it thru the website or humble?
My Humble bundle account has 2 keys
1)Grim Dawn
Grim Dawn Digital Release 15 digit code steam key! that i have used
- Grim Dawn Access Key 32 digit code the drm free version
Grim Dawn Digital Release
So the 2nd key is a waste of time? can i use it on GOG?
I’ve spent more than 100 bucks on this and I’m still not sure if Ill get what I bought lol, Im worried, we need a public post claryfing so many things.
I’m sad because this is a great game, I think greatest arpg since d2 but a confusing launch and lack of communication is tainting the release. Like Sf5, great game with a bad launch.
At least in the end, this is just a temporary problem and the game, which is great, is what is going to last.
you were worried to launch along POE, I think you should’ve worried more about having a clean launch, with nice communication, etc
Still, is in moments like this when a company really needs our support, not monetary but our good attitude, so try to not flame or insult, it doesnt help.
where did you buy GD ? During the KS, on this website or on the Humble site ?
In the first two cases you should get the DRM free version from GOG. Not sure about the third, but given you have a key, I would assume so too…
I bought it from Humble (linked from this site) During the KS in April last year
I agree that it was a confusing launch. In order to understand the whole development process, one had to visit the forum on a daily basis. I would drop by from time to time to find out where the game was as far as development and found the language very confusing.
However, you don’t have to worry on the game’s delivery. You will get what you paid for. Hang it there…I’m in the same line as you.
The Kickstarter was in 2012, if you bought it in 2014 that was in Early Access and not as part of the KS.
If you bought it directly from Humble, then as I said, I am not entirely sure what the status is. Since you do have a key for the DRM free version, I would expect you to get one though. I guess the best thing is to wait and see, the DRM free version should be available soon.
They’ve focused on getting it out on GOG.com instead of humble.
It’s still coming (there’s nothing mentioning it yet on GOG.coms upcoming tab; but GOG sometimes skips to just releasing a new title on Thursdays [how long it will still take is still speculative]).
The reason they’re renewing their effort to get it out on GOG instead of Humble is that it should be easier to keep patches being released in close parity with it’s steam counterpart (so that there is no version mismatch when you try playing multiplayer with friends).
They’re still deciding how to get us the additional rewards (like your wig/trenchcoat or Will’o’Wisps; nor are the physical rewards ready which if I’ve kept up enough with it are having the final touches put on them [map was sent back to be made higher res]); essentially all efforts are on getting everyone able to play first.
As to concerns over GOG.com, Galaxy is entirely optional as the game should be able to be downloaded as a straight installer.exe & has LAN play (I haven’t confirmed that it allows direct IP connection [for LAN] though & would appreciate official word or from a steam user if it does or not [should still allow LAN^Internet progs like Hamachi to work though]).
GOG.com will require you to set up a free account (requires an email account) and you will more than likely be given a gift code for the game that you simply redeem (sent to the email you used for the kickstarter or with crate).
Crate does not host the game files on it’s own website if you bought from them you will download from either steam or GOG.com.
If that doesn’t answer your questions in the short term, feel free to ask & if I can’t get back to you on it someone else will while you await the official response from Medierra.
Oh and GOG is a better turn of events anyways because it has matchmaking (Galaxy) unlike humble and at worst active forums for organizing a gaming group, though arguably that step can be replicated through most social media websites (twitter, facebook, etc.).
Ty, I like GoG actually, already have account with games, etc
My concern is that I want confirmation that I purchased the loyalist thrut eh website and not direectly with humble, as it seems people who did the later wont receive the gog version, which was the main reason I purchased it again -I already had it on steam but wanted a drm free version-
If you purchased it through the web site, aka Loyalist Edition, then you will get the DRM-free version once it is released. The only way you could buy the Loyalist edition is from the web site, or had backed it during the Kickstarter at the appropriate level.
My concern is that I am sure I purchased it directly from HumbleBundle, and - even though it was stated back then that I would get the DRM-free version on release - it appears that I am now in a group that no longer will get the DRM-free version. So I would still like to have an official reply to what I need to do to get my DRM-free version…
I already contacted HumbleBundle (again) about this, but I’m not sure they will know the answer to this at this stage…
In your situation, I thought everything was settled but yea let’s see…
This is hypothetical at best while though being based on some facts and final 100% confirmation will come from medierra / Crate.
I hope you printed a physical sheet or a .xps of your receipt with HB or you kept the e-mail that might have contained it. I have no idea about Humble Bundle reputation I thought it was a charity only looks like it’s other ventures too. I have all reasons to believe what you said is true >> you bought from HB directly (thus Crate has nothing to do with this in the refund department if you wish [for YOUR case]). Now this was a minor mistake from you. If you can skip the middle guy you always do. There is a fundamental difference I believe in buying from Crate (purchase is just being processed by HumbleB or Amazon pay or whoever etc) and buying from HumbleB.
Now some theatrics for display.
Imagine this situation - NKorea and SKorea. The radioactive arms dealer (HB shipping) does this >>> A customer in NK buys 100Giga tons, but wait!! we change the conditions: included in this: we can deliver by air cargo 100Giga tons to SK too INSTEAD of a neutral party (HB Wealth Compendium [as agreed before])! This magically works everybody gets their nukes but it is a delicate matter… the Arms Dealer now for the included unit price gives equal to sworn enemies. This is Defcon 2 or 1.
Now not only is this very dangerous thus the arms dealer is reluctant, but the Arms dealer is also reluctant for another reason right? His affiliate division HB WealthCmpd got shafted, no one can buy for the neutral side anymore. End of theater.
OK so medierra has given a lot of insight into some inner workings already. We can’t ask more. Understanding this situation, you can’t ask Crate, because you don’t want them assassinated in a back alley - for new sales - to request that HB put themselves in this dual keys for same price situation (2for1) both for political WW3 reasons and for $$$ reasons as they no longer got a DRM-free to sell it goes to another unrelated to them entity now. HB would be glad (I guess 'n believe ;)) to sell separate Steam keys and separate GoG keys.
Based on some of this, you can understand (even if you’re mad you’re supposed to be anyway or something’s “wrong” with you lol) that you might (will?) need to get a refund from HumbleBundle then go on gog.cm and buy your DRM-free GrimDawn with that money. This is because >you’ve< dealt directly with HB as the seller of a product made by someone else. Now this should be very easy as HB has offered a product that you paid for that they didn’t and can’t deliver = it doesn’t matter if they say but you got half-a-product why this foolish claim sir? This is a no question asked refund from them to your situation, they have no argument (legit or legal). However if they say something like - we never offered a DRM-free download with the purchase you made sir - this has nothing to do with Crate, they HB are screwing you - then you scan your receipt and throw it in their face… but check the receipt first if they didn’t write the DRM-free included on it even if they dishonest problem falls on you because well they can troll you with
that since it’s some time ago, you didn’t inquire before, their website now reflects a different outcome etc. However I don’t think they will give you trouble for that since you even got a support transcript and if additional problems arise describe them and we won’t be like too bad for you bro, some very helpful guys in here now.
PS Special thanks to Illiousintahl for making me realize and correct my confusing () in () from before to now (and yea Grim Dawn is a great game [we get an Expansion too guys!!])
Then if HB had legal contract with Crate (if it’s Crate who removed the drm-free version from HB), then HB will ask to Crate the share that Crate asked for the (uncomplete) deal (if HB had already given the share to Crate).
