The work to get rewards distributed is basically done now on our end and we’re just waiting for it to be set up on Humble / GoG. Humble will be distributing the codes and it requires a bit of custom setup because we have so many tiers, it makes it a bit complicated (especially with the pre-KS, KS and post-KS meals…). If we ever did another KS, I’d definitely keep things a lot simpler.
GoG just needs to set up the part on their end where they can recognize the codes and trigger the correct things to unlock in-game. This is already configured on Steam since we had access to set it up ourselves.
So, it’s hard to say. I’d hope in a week but it’s out of our hands, so I can’t really predict how long they’ll take.
There are two weeks maybe less it says. we must have patience. It is to play now and have a character level 70. Then I’m not going to equip those things. Has no sense.
I dont want DRM free, I would not rush for this, I want digital content for play
I’m sorry but if you bought it off the Humble Storefront, it will not also grant a GoG key. It does clearly indicate that you only get a Steam key with that purchase.
Given the logistical complexities we’re already dealing with and distributor reluctance to issue people dual keys, I don’t think it makes sense to extend this beyond the people who are already expecting it.
The impatient people who feel betrayed by the delaying of the DRM-free version vs the Steam Supremacists* who, in their hubris, believe that there can be only Steam.
Games like Wasteland 2, Pillars Of Eternity and Divinity: Original Sin were on GOG from day 1 so I’m really disappointed that they missed the launch of Grim Dawn.
That said, I’m glad that Crate focused their limited resources on improving and polishing Grim Dawn instead of preparing the DRM-free version. What matters is that in the end they are honoring their promise and everyone should be happy.
There is only one thing that I will not be able to forgive though, that would be Crate selling their souls to the dark side (EA, Activision, etc.).
Hello, master.
Will you please make the situation clear?
I want to buy a game, but is there a way to buy a game without GOG or STEAM?
Some developers sell a game through their site (using PayPal) and i can load a game from their site (without wny 3rd parties shops).
Are you going to do the same thing or GD will be sell from GOG and Steam only?
I want to buy a game, but i do not understand this situation.
The term ‘steam supremacist’ is clearly aimed at inciting another flame-war as you are making a supposition that they are akin to the white supremacist group that like the KKK and Neo Nazi’s they should instill hatred from the general community.
They are not a group specifically set up with core beliefs of discrimination and hate; they are merely other gamers who choose not to stand against oppresive market authoritarianism (i’ll take my 21 points in scrabble for that one [btw only doable if someone uses the word author, the next adds itarian, etc.]).
It’s actually a good summation of steam actually and is worth looking up (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authoritarianism).
To reiterate though we don’t need insightful comments aimed at starting a flame war *coughs.
I’m glad that Grim Dawn has been released but I’m . I bought the loyalist edition 2 years ago through Grim Dawn Website and I have a 8 x 4 characters key. As far as I know, I haven’t received any Steam key (I’m not fond of Steam btw, so no big deal), but I have a Humble Bundle account and asked them to resend all my keys but there’s nothing about Grim Dawn there. I have already a GoG account.
So my question is : will I be able to exchange my current key with a GoG key to unlock Grim Dawn on GoG or will we receive eventually an independent Grim Dawn installer and patcher from Grim Dawn website (both ways are OK for me)?
Thanks in advance for your clarifications!
(sorry if this has already been replied somewhere)
this is such complete BS… more like the impatient DRM-free crowd vs people asking for a bit of patience from them, regardless of them being in the DRM-free or ‘do not care’ camp
That said, I’m glad that Crate focused their limited resources on improving and polishing Grim Dawn instead of preparing the DRM-free version. What matters is that in the end they are honoring their promise and everyone should be happy.
sounds like you are one of the Steam Supremacists you mentioned, as you pretty much follow their line of reasoning
The irony of your post is that you are attacking that guy’s credibility by accusing him of being a Crate employee… ie, you have drifted away from reasoned debate and discredited yourself.
I don’t typically look for alt accounts, whether from Employees or users, but when there is a pattern then I’m pretty good at recognizing it. In this case, that person used a very rude tone, which is atypical for Crate employees. Also, he misspelled “you’re” as “your”, meaning that he is either uneducated or not very good with English. That is not a definite disqualifier, but it probably is. Additionally, it would be so much easier for the devs to just aggressively moderate the topic to keep it on task than it would be to create a whole new alt to use to attack you.
In light of all of that, and considering how a reasonable person would react to having his own position undermined by a perhaps too-aggressive colleague, I don’t see how a non-interested 3rd party to your conversation would conclude that your antagonist was an alt, or at least an alt of somebody who has moderation powers. Your accusation that the guy is a Crate employee does exactly what you accused him of doing in fact.
Just to clarify, I have no association with Crate in any way. I’m a backer like many people here from 2012, who just created account to comment on the issue. I wait for the DRM Free release just like other people in this thread. The difference is I don’t throw accusation or write about legal threat(post which got deleted) but just show support. If someone thinks otherwise that’s their problem This thread was already inane before I started posting here, but this is just new low of people who biggest issue is delayed release, like their lives depended on it
When Armikrog was released on Humble Bundle, there was an option to generate a GOG key, maybe you could consider adding such option as well.
It is cool that other people find no problem with a release half a month before being able to give promised access to those that backed the project 4 years ago. While some may not have a problem with the fact that after 4 years, unlike every other backed project, they didn’t prepare well enough to release to everyone, yet released anyway.
The idea that unless something is catastrophic, then it just doesn’t matter is not a good position to take.
People not caring means that companies will continue to do this in the future and worse. No one cared when DLC came out and now we have games who have $120 of DLC at release like Evolved. Sometimes caring is important.

I will give a different example of the somewhat legit importance of release when having committed.
Besides ARPG, I like Mega Man games and that’s it for video games. I played when I was a kid and I really like the X series style for those that know about those.
Hence I arrive at Mighty no 9, a kickstarter for a game made in Japan. Inafune is the project leader. He had the most influence on Mega Man from his birth 1rst game to his decline (or some will say he’s dead and buried or recycled in fridges or car parts). MN9 is the spiritual successor to MM.
interlude
Now overall all things considered, Grim Dawn - Crate have done very well in what they went through to get this game to where it has culminated. Reviews of the complete game are highly positive. There are critics that say T.T there is no hand-holding. This is positive too in a sense that Crate has delivered a game where they made no (major or none) compromises to deliver their vision. This game has thus a very high appeal to those that like it that way and this would’ve been very hard (impossible?) to pull off if they had a mainstream publisher. end interlude
So Mighty No 9 started as a dream come true Kickstarter, but what they did (Comcept is the entity of Inafune) before/during/after main game’s development is… well… problematic on so many levels…
I was very curious and inquired to contacts in Japan to look into it. Now go on the worldwideweb and look for one out of many of the most hyper tin-foil hat theory about what happened in this catastrophic mess (backers have been treated like crap & garbage to say it mildly) (the game is not yet released still). The real thing is way beyond in disgusting/crazy/revolting than the silliest tin-foil some guys have imagined. Got nothing more to say on this matter besides…
As much stuff that Inafune planned/did etc… (backers paid the same price same conditions for any platform Xbx PC Vita Nintendo PS3/4 etc) one thing that was a NoNoNO even for Inafune was let’s say PS3/4 and all are ready but Wii U got porting problems (this not real I make example) — >>> go ahead with release, no WiiU at release - anyway NP WiiU got by far the lowest user install base. Can you imagine what would have happened… (This was A BIG KS and it got HYPER MEDIA presence+++) Now the 3DS version porting had (still has lol?) SO many problems that some said to Inafune: man let’s cancel this and find a way to get them to take the pill or hey Inafune let’s forget the portable platforms for now and focus on the main thing we wasting time we already so late… we release then we start working full on that thing etc. Then Inafune said NONONO I’m ready to do many things but dayum this is too much.
This has been a little real-world story through which I wanted to give some (additional) subtle insight perhaps into the legitimacy of some claims and requests made on this forum and the established measures Crate has taken to entirely from my POV settle the concerns of those having made those claims.
I got the Patron edition in April 2011, I’m also waiting for the DRM (GOG) version, but I’ll just play on steam until the GOG version arrives, then just uninstall the Steam version and play using the GOG one no big deal. FWIW I don’t really like steam but I’ll use it when necessary.
For what I understood, there will not be an actual Crate release, no drm-free by a Crate shop. By Crate website you’ll have a Steam key.
If you want the game the less 3rd-party, it should be from GOG, as their Galaxy software is not mendatory to download (or patch) the game (nor play at least the solo game; I’m not sure about multiplayer).
To make short, if I well understood: GD will be only Steam or GOG.
Most likely in your registered backer e-mail you will get a gift code.
If you do not have a GOG account yet and fear privacy breach you could make up a free email account to register with gog.
Take your game code, visit www.gog.com & login with email.
go to http://www.gog.com/redeem to redeem your game code, place in code to unlock.
Visit your account page and click on the game & select it’s download to get the installer.
Use installer then play.
It is that simple as GOG Galaxy is in no way necessary, even as far as multiplayer is concerned.
This due to the fact the game has LAN support, which means Hamachi like services that allow a fake LAN over the internet mean you will be able to use whatever you like to find a good list of people to play with, it just won’t be an integrated list like Steam or GOG Galaxy.
To summarize GOG is painless to get a simple windows installer from and Galaxy is entirely optional; redeem key, download the ‘.exe’, launch your LAN with IP’s and game on.
For those wondering why then you would bother with GOG Galaxy, it has auto-patching to allow builds to remain efficiently in step with one another; it does not mean that you cannot manually download the installer again without it and i believe these do reflect the change in build.
This is because the Galaxy client looks like it re-downloads the entire game again with a patch instead of updating (probably from the exact same place in the file tree as the manual downloads) select files.
It also has a friends list, something you may not need if your comfortable running things through LAN^Internet or (if I’m not mistaken that Grim Dawn allows) connecting to a host IP,
Which leaves me not knowing if I’m even going to get a GoG key or not.
I remember having problems getting the Humble widget on the GrimDawn website working due to Humble using a different set of payment options from what I had seen before. And I do remeber having a look at the Humble Store. But I can’t remember what I finally got to work.
I wouldn’t mind so much if you would just remove the DRM from the Steam version.
