Complete Remaster of Grim Dawn's vanilla textures, I bring you GrimTex

Are we still on track for an end of year v6.0 of “Original Color Profile” sir??
(Hopefully a 2x version *fingers crossed)

  • If you add a way for me to support this effort with $, I WILL !!

Downloaded both 4x files today. Mod is awesome thank you!
Noticed the “new” colour zip didn’t have the fx and ui folders in it where as the original did.
(Apologies if this has been spelled out elsewhere) but is this intentional? Are the fx and ui improvements separate between the different colour versions?

He removed the FX/UI folders from the new versions because he didn’t see a visual benefit in the upscaling (plus it just added to the file size etc)

Just figured I’d post this observation:

IMO, GrimTex 2x looks BETTER than 4x (it looks more “natural”, for lack of a better word)

I don’t know if you have further plans to upgrade your mod but I noticed that in Necropolis there is a uniform ground texture instead of cubes. Compare the ground with and without the mod, and if necessary I will upload screenshots in a while, currently I don’t have how.

Havent been on. New baby been a handful! There are a handful of textures that share the same name. The necropolis one is one of those very textures. I should just remove it. Original color profile is already updated to newest version. They dont all share same versions. I made different versions of each mod. 0.5x 1x etc. Theyre all updated to v1.2. I can make a 2x of original color. For sure.

Just a heads up, but on the current version of Original Color on Nexus, the Shattered Realm portal texture is missing/black - while on V6.0 it’s there as it should be… Sooo yeah, there appear to be some discrepancies between versions

  • CONGRATS on the kiddo btw!

Congratulations on your consolation bro! I wish you well slept nights :joy:!

Oddly enough i dont think i have an fx folder in the original color profile. Maybe i am mistaken been a bit since i looked. I didnt alter any fx in the newer versions. Hmmm.

I overshot a little. There are times as you play for extended period of time. It keeps some of the textures in vram. I was able to hit 6gb with 2x a few times, albeit was rare. I decided to go more to the highest end. This was also in 4k. Some of the zones and dungeons have much larger textures.

I forget which setting can be shut off to make the 4x look even better. I will have to check later. I believe it is the fog setting.

I use 2x version on 4g vram card and it’s max load is 92,8% according to Hwmonitor. Game looks so much more detailed and polished. I really like it. It wouldn’t be easy to go back to standard textures after another exp pack release
But maybe there’s a chance that official build also got refresh on exp release? That would be awesome

They would be cool if Crate released an official texture pack along with the third expansion or earlier. Personally, I don’t pay that much attention to the graphics but let’s be honest, the graphics in GD have long been tarnished by the teeth of time and could use a refresh.
Besides, many players look at graphics before buying a game, that’s the truth.
I don’t know how much time it would take a graphic designer and how much it would cost them, but in the end everyone would come out ahead.

And if they don’t have the time to do it then Crate could make a deal with Halk Hogan who released texture packs for Witcher 3 and CP2077. Guy knows what he is doing! Sry. for my ang.

Author of this thread could do it for Crate. The job is done just great!

I agree he did a good job, but a Crate employee would still need to look at these textures and make his adjustments. Many of the textures are lacking that roughness/glow, the game’s lighting has also changed after installing the mod. A skilled eye will also notice graphical artifacts in some places. Halk Hogan doesn’t run textures through AI and that’s the big difference mate. His textures were added to the official game in the ‘nextgen’ update.

He absolutely runs his textures through ai at this point. He couldnt do any better than me without remaking the textures, which I can do, but wont do for 6000 if them. I took what i had to work with. Also, my lighting change was for the better
even though i didnt actually adjust the lighting, just the alpha layers the light reacts with. Easily solved upping brightness and gamma. A skilled eye can see that. Might need a new monitor.

So yeah, sorry I “dont know what im doing” with 20 years of experience. Lol

After all, I wrote that you did a good job and there is no reason to be angry. Since you write that it only uses AI it’s too bad you don’t have the tools. It doesn’t look like just an AI job, but maybe I don’t know.

I like also lightning changes. Still in some situations I think the effects are to bright for my taste both in vanilla and in your mod. Maybe that’s by design choice of the artist so I need to accept it as it is :person_tipping_hand:

Hi. I’ve been testing your mod with Ryzen 7800x3d and Rx 7900xtx. What can I say?
Max load of GPU ram is around 6gb with X4 version. Color effects with everything set to absolute max in the graphical settings of the game are now not that bright even with full screen of mobs, so that’s great IMHO. I found that much better than in lower graphics settings.

As to the performance… Well it’s not that super good. I got constant 125fps but still cannot reach 165 fps to match 165hz on my monitor. So that’s kind a sad taking into consideration that it is a $3k rig. I guess GD still isn’t optimized too good it that regard. More to say my CPU max use is 12-13% and GPU around 40-45%. So it’s not about the hardware but more about code unfortunately :person_tipping_hand:

That said, I am still very happy with general experience with this mod. I will try to record some YT video showcasing how it look like, if only I find a time to do so

Thanks again for your effort to make GD much more beautiful
