Sad to hear that “upping the graphics” is a prime factor in the new engine. Graphically GD looks just fine, yet suffers from engine properties holding it back in a myriad of ways. Hopefully new mechanics will allow for a more fluid and intuitive gameplay, and hopefully we can turn the graphics down and avoid the washed out blur that is high settings
I’d be willing to bet a not insignificant sum of money that Grim Dawn 2 will release in 2035 the earliest.
Generally, I’m not a fan of them starting development of GD2 immediately after FoA release. It0s clear that FoA will be a huge xpac, with a lot of content. And post release updates (roguelikes and balancing). Couple that with mods (the season mod, e.g.), there’s going to be plenty of content for everyone except for no-lifers to play for years to come. I’d rather they make FoA the best that they can, even if it takes longer. Then take a break from GD and ARPGS in general (like 2 or 3 year break), then start making GD2.
You have to remember that right this moment they are actually working on 3 or 4 games total. Presumably by the time they start GD2 there will be still be others being worked on in tandem. I suspect that most the team has been getting a good variety of things to work on and may not be as burnt out on arpg’s as you think.
To be honest I am a bit of tired of this old GD engine. I switched to Last Epoch as my main now, and engine is so much modern. At first I didnt like it but now after 1500h put into LE is so hard to be back to GD… i am not sure if I will be able to enjoy GD even with the new xpack just because of the graphics alone. Guess, I will wait and see. Insta buy of course but not looking forward to it as if it were like 3 years ago…
2035 is a decade… I am not sure if I will be gsmer so long ![]()
I know all this but still I am not sure I will be playing games in 2035…
For me it could be just too late for GD2 ![]()
Keep in mind it’s already taking them multiple years to finish FoA. GD2 will not be anywhere soon if the official pre-production starts next year.
Yeah but that can be fudged a bit with an extended early access window.
I look forward to really digging into the design and story of a sequel next year, but we are also talking about programming the systems an ARPG needs from scratch.
I don’t know if I’d be placing bets on a 10 year development cycle, but it’s going to take some time before we’re ready to make a formal announcement.
Please tell me PlayStation is going to be included in the game formats, still vexes me that the original is not available on that system.
The amount of fans and money you would have made by releasing it would of been significant.
Crate tried but it seemed difficult to work with Sony
I believe they do. I know that Crate were in talks with Sony some years ago, but they broke down. This from an interview Zantai did back in 2018: " Why did you choose Microsoft’s console for Grim Dawn? Are there any chances to see it on other platforms such as PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch? A big part of it is that it’s easier to port from PC to the Xbox. It helped that Microsoft was very interested in the port and helped us get set up initially. Sony contacted us initially, but communica…
I don’t know if I’d be placing bets on a 10 year development cycle
I’m open to bets being in °C of average global warming instead of years! That gives it a spicy element.
°C of average global warming instead of years
Imagine believing in global warming ![]()
lolwut?
Someone sounds like they want 3 decades+ of research dumped on their head. From orbit. Never mind the basic physics of why CO2 acts as a greenhouse gas and the simple experiment back in the 1800’s that started this off.
Fortunately I am a) sleep deprived at present and b) going to assume at the moment you’re trolling. Along with c) it’s off-topic.
Mind you, I’ve been wanting to catch up with the state of Climate Change science for years, so this would be fun for me :3 Been a decade+ since I really chewed out a denier on this properly.

So sooner than that then. Great! ![]()
I can echo that. I have only recently got into POE1 and Wow the spell visual is stunning! The gears are very plain though. To be fair I have put 2k hours in GD and only 30 hours in poe. The novelty probably wears off long before I reach that play time in GD.
i am not sure if I will be able to enjoy GD even with the new xpack just because of the graphics alone.
Honest question: are we talking about the graphics, as in the visual quality of the effects/textures/lighting, or the artistic direction?
Edit: I am asking because I have heard many people say Titan Quest 2 has incredible graphics and I still do not understand why. A friend even told me that prefering Grim Dawn was bad faith. The environments are good, I like the numerous elevation changes, but I don’t think the visuals (not what they represent) are particularly good and certainly not for that GPU cost, so I would like to know whether people casually merge the two concepts together.
I am not sure. Maybe I am just burned out and it is not about graphics at all? I was refering more to overall quality of effects than art style. I much prefer Grim Dawn dark atmosphere than bright TQ2 world. Still TQ has very nice hand crafted wordls. Also after 50hours of playing into TQ2 I must say that UE5 engine is so clunky… it can kill my GPU in 2k in some scenarios I need to use FSR to cap my 165hz monitor… so dissapointing.
