Drain Essence Needs...Something

Sure but I haven’t seen any good examples in this thread where it would be the case, only half-assed ones. However I can see the pattern in both veteran and new players that they are simply bad at it. Even in beginner guides like Stupid Dragon’s PB where he cannot play max PBs for like 50 levels for no reason.

Easily maxing Spirit is not a struggle or having a skill in the game that requires it if not having Energy devos is not bad imo. Whether it would fix the issue or not I simple disagree and the math of yours doesn’t convince me. I’m open to the possibility that I’m wrong by watching some gameplay. This was my educated guess.

Is Drain Essence a 1 in the vid in the damage department though? And I’m not even against bumping the damage, I said it could use one. That’s why I say these things are not related especially since you’ll have less energy issues if killing faster. Also DE has an in-built leech if you want to compare skills like that in general sense.

I’m not even against lowering energy consumption, because how do I know, I don’t play all the builds or people’s characters. I simply just comment on the builds and vids presented just as I would if I saw a Cold build w/o Murmur.

i mean… that literally is the opposite of the first part of the sentence isn’t in? while also highlighting exactly what i said that it is a point of comparison. “otherwise DE wouldn’t need more dmg at all”/would be considered totally fine as is.

anyway, i wonder if it’s one of those miscommunication things because it seems like we are saying the exact same thing, yet no/disagreeing about it anyway, somehow?

and as for the halfassed builds, i’m guessing they are being shown because these are considered the “usual” optimized builds; yet it doesnt’ work for DE
and granted while we havent’ actually seen gameplay with the +30mps variant, atleast sheet math would suggest it’s not enough, which i think is atleast a fair starting point too

Also remember like i said earlier, basically most skills/builds energy issue can usually be fixed with Scales, but, and i think it’s also part of these “not mana optimized builds”; not all builds gets scales, but more so many other builds doesn’t require more extreme mana optimization that DE does
(tho i’m totally onboard with not taking Raven and then dump in cunning for OA does seem a bit contra to usual optimization standards for a spirit build )

Actually the trick here was to change Harbinger of Souls (which this build doesn’t benefit much from) to Master of Death which allowed for Spirit dump instead of the Cunning one. Casting Speed fixed by Spider + Of Celerity (instead of Frostburn), damage compensated by Spirit. I like popularizing Master of Death on Cold Reapers. More Energy regen and big DA buff as a result.

ah yea, my bad, mixed the wrong GT with eachother, but still, same stuff OA without needing to climb cunning+more spirit on a spirit build so from a casual stance seems like yours made more sense even if ignoring mana

Swarm, vines and I think bloody pox. Got carried through end of vet/elite only by Guillotine drop. To be honest, that one was back in AoM. Maybe things changed since then.

It was a combination of insane energy cost, projectile physics consistently finding new ways to fuck me (demo life), and the fact that nightblade side was almost completely dead weight until 94. That said, when QJ actually felt like dealing damage, it was obscene, and several leagues above DE.

Both that and DE were in relatively recent patches, just to keep it clear.

aaa lot
get swarm dagger/pistol, swarm medal? and vines offhand, and you’re steam rolling the entirety of MC Veteran-Ultimate
for extra lulz i’ve also done vit-bleed mix where i also took Huntress to capitalize a bit more on “half” the dmg on Swarm/Vines, which felt equally as busted, tho a bit lesser still since was on a class that didn’t get double RR on both.
The vines offhand being obtainable early in FG/before swarm MIs is probably also a +for me on that front/why i’ve recommended it
-tho i do think these days you need to wait until getting the mid level version for “full bust”, since the lvl 20 version don’t get double flats anymore? since lower level MIs got nerfed here and there #ScalingMIs (but not really scaling)

This does indeed look a lot better than vit DE in terms of dmg.
Energy is an issue as well I see and phys res… well… it is what it is for chillwhisper - too low.
Would probably be a good idea to move the tdm bonus to the base skill and remove it from the transmuter skill but keep the conversion.

Base skills shouldn’t get tdm. They should just have their stats raised if that is what is required.

That is what I mean by that.
Probably should’ve been more clear here.

That question could be extended to why bother playing Necro from level 2. Because that would exclude Kymon augments. Playing DE from level 2 turns an eventually potentially disappointing experience for a new player (because they can’t ever join Kymon and get their augments) into one where there’s also an initially miserable experience from low damage and high energy cost.

Right now Bone Harvest seems to be the best non-pet skill for a Necro to use early on, but the player should be aware and sure of what his final build should look like and whether it would have to use any Kymon augments, even just for the Moggy fight.

Okay, tested this cold based chillwhisper drain essence reaper by going through SR 75-76 a bunch of times and also some SR 80 runs and for the most parts runs have been okay.
The squishiness was very noticeable tho! (lack of phys res & armor)
I’d also like to apologize to @tqFan & @klasperstanze for so heavily doubting their work with their respective cold DE chillwhisper builds.
Cold DE does indeed seem to be the only decent version out there atm.

The experience I had with my reaper I wrote down in keywords & short sentences in a .txt which I will copy-paste bellow:

Chillwhisper DE feedback:

The only decent version of DE there is. → Vit./Aether could also need the “25% TDM” that Gravechill provides.

Needs very high rolled cs% on set & other cs% gear to reach cap. → Add cs% to the gloves.

Needs very high investment into energy regen and/or cost reduction thx to DEs very high energy cost. → Harp is basically a required must pick and so are energy regen augs.

Very squishy thx to extremly low armor & phys. res. even with something like Formidable Stormguard Leggings → 10-15% phys. res. to the 3p or 4p set bonus would be very welcome.

These were my findings during testing.

Cheers, Mergo. :clinking_glasses:

All this energy problem on neceo without scales makes me think what if Spectral Wrath, Ill Omen, or Blood Boil have mana leech attribute in them?

That would be a touch OP just like that one patch in Alpha where Z put Energy Leech on Curse of Frailty - sooo delicious but it was very short lived.

Kinda surprised we haven’t seen this one return on an Item Skillmod, tbqh.

Hint, hint.

Ceno’s down for a little group succ action

Managed to make a chillwhisper reaper setup with okish damage although its still low and somewhat good energy sustain with spirit dump and softcapped phantasmal armor. Sadly in the end there’s still a chance to run out of energy vs bigger guys. Have to mention that in order to get a decent amount of damage i had to ditch scales to get more damage. The big remaining problem is its still squishy despite having 3k effective da and 19k hp. It gets randomly bursted down because it has only 21% phys res and it also gets outleeched despite me using the DE gloves for the extra damage and adtch to the skill (which further forced me into grabbing Harbinger of souls). Have to mention that i had to use amatok boots and gargoyle waistguard to patch up my slow res leaving me in the end with 18/12 hungering reach (no place to get the points). So… More damage and 10-15% phys res to the set is needed, and also 20-30 stun res on a piece.
Forgot to mention. If we get violent decay belt for them hungering reach points, we’ll lose a good chunk of damage via the lost conversion, otherwise if we do get them via ring slots, we’ll lose much needed %dmg and OA.

Suggestions tl dr: increase flat amounts to DE on mods, give the set 15% phys res, either spread via pieces or as bonus, increase the stun res, add casting speed to DE gloves, add inc armor % to set bonus since we’re also using phantasmal armor to control energy consumption, increase energy cost reduction on dagger to 15%.

Background music warning so u dont get startled!!!
~6:59 run so not very fast but not super slow either… just so so.
Leaving this here as a showcase for the devs so they get a rough idea how it performs rn.

Cold Chillwhisper DE Reaper

Yeah, you could do better with that wonderful music :slightly_smiling_face:. 3 minutes maximum to complete SR 75-76, let’s go!

3 minutes SR suuuuuuuuuuuuuure.
That would require the fastest build there is with every room being a short room and even with this it would be impossible.

Idk, this seems acceptable in the grand sceme of all builds. What about the other drain essence variants like aether or vitality (or acid) and their viability? Wasn’t there even an acid/cold hybrid version?
