Embarrassing moments from GD

Hello.

Please post your most embarrassing things you did in GD.

I will start with one I did this same morning.

Adding some points to FireStrike to use it as main attack and totally forgetting assign it to the attack button. :stuck_out_tongue:

I even never realized the damage output was the same as before. :stuck_out_tongue:

It took me an embarrassingly long time (hundreds of hours spanning months) to realize that my Druid wasnā€™t receiving buffs from both Star Pact and Stormcallerā€™s Pact.

I realized they were Exclusive Skills, but I thought that each mastery could only use one of them from its tree. I suppose Occultist having only one could have tipped me off.

Either way, now I have 10 extra (read: wasted) mastery points because I was too lazy to reroll the toon. Expansion mastery refund incoming!

on my first character (DEE Warlock), I accidentally had at some point (around Arkovian Under City Quest) messed up the loot filter. This set it to show No Loot at all.
And I didnā€™t realize you can basically use ā€œAltā€ key like DII:LoD here and finished till Elite Warden w/o getting single gear. The biggest fuck up was that I had also looted the Exalted Chests at the time my loot filter was messed up which means I wasted pretty much every Exalted Chest in my save file from Normal Darius Cronley to Elite Warden

Took me 350 hours to notice that you dont have to invest in earlier skills in a line to unlock the ones behind them

Definitely involves devotions. I somehow never realized that I needed to allocate devotion points with my very first blademaster character - which never went past lvl 35-ish but thatā€™s another story.
Then I only realized I needed to assign the devotion procs to skills after reaching lvl 60-ish on my second character (vitality conjurer).

I stopped playing early access before devotions were added, so that all came as a big surprise in the release, and I made a big mess out of it, obviously.

Looking back, it makes me feel pretty dumb.

took me almost 600 hours before knowing that there are stash tabs availableā€¦

also I feel bad for not getting all achievementsā€¦stuck at 80 or something:cry:

Took me ~1000 hours to learn you could use riftgates from the world map without first making a personal riftgate.

I suppose there was that one time I accidentally ran BoC with all my buffs turned off and some shitty white weapon equipped, not realising until the very end despite thinking ā€œI seem a lot weaker than usualā€¦ā€ the entire way through. Surprised I actually managed to get so far really, all things considered. White weapons OP plz nerf.

Additional shout-out to any time I ever accidentally dismantle my only copy of a Legendary. :frowning:

Iā€™ve just learned that I could craft dynamite at Homestead. I have ~2000 hours in.

W-wait, we can do that? D:

I just sold many epic & legs items for vendor before knowing that those items can be destroyed by dynamite to get rare crafting materials :frowning:

It seems like even the devs donā€™t know about town portal ā€œtrickā€.

The same happened to me recently. I was juggling with items to fit them all in a seemingly ONLY TAB in the stash.:rolleyes::stuck_out_tongue:

What is that ā€œportal trickā€? It wouldnā€™t surprise me to know I donā€™t know itā€¦

I usually hit ā€œMā€ key to create riftgates.

You open the world map, click rift on it and your character rifts to the place instead of open rift -> click rift -> click where you want to go. 2 seconds of gaming time saved!

My own shameful pleasure is still using the character loading exploit, getting normal characters onto ultimate for that sweet, free experience from the Spirit Guide and Rook, thatā€™s a few levels up in one go

What exploitā€¦

Also I think you guys fixed it

Now thatā€™s some hard core RP there.

Nice thread.

I wanted to post something like that when (if ever) I have finished Port Valbury but here they are:

  1. Till Lvl 81 I didnĀ“t know that I have to invest in the Mastery Bar to get Attribute Points/Hit Points. There IS an announcement in the loading screens but I ignored itā€¦(This is an embarassing because IĀ“m a teacher and once a week I tell my pupils, when they ask how to do something, ā€œRTFM!ā€ (I use kinder wordsā€¦))

  2. I got my build. I got my items. Everyone can facetank Mad Queen in the videos. I can, too! Shadow Step and Go for it!..No, I cannot. She showed me several times.

  3. Shadow Step is one reason why I shouldnĀ“t ever play Hardcore. When I get careless, Shadow Step into everything is fun. When trying to clear BoC in Elite with a full-equipped Lvl 85 Bleeding Trickster (lameā€¦) I shadowstepped everything. Three Herosā€¦no problem! All buffs up, 200 % Attack Speed, Howl of Mogdrogen runningā€¦

One was blinking ominouslyā€¦and I was dead.

  1. Aether Patches. I know them all. You can see the bones of my toon on every patch in Cairn.

  2. It is not the best idea trying to equip a toon when Merchant-Window is open. Byebye Guthook Belt (after 10 minutes I recognized I sold himā€¦no rebuyā€¦).

I think for the first 400 hours, I was under the assumption that Writs/Mandates worked by just sitting in your inventory.

I grinded 2 or 3 characters reputation up to Revered for all Factions all the while wondering why the amounts I was getting for Heroes/Bosses/Bounties didnā€™t change compared to when I didnā€™t have Writs/Mandates originally but I just grew used to it and never thought to check until I read on the forums that they were consumable.

I am often short on Aether Crystals and sometimes die in aetherfire, when I greedily want to pick one up.
