[English font] GD clear fonts + london gothic fonts OR normal clean fonts versions

@stargater - Very nice. Looking good.

My eyes are so very happy with this. This is wonderful. Loving the normal v2 version.

Version 3 (normal fonts) is up.
This time , i am using a free font KOTORI ROSE (KR font).
This is also a good font for players with eyes issues on screen and wanted higher resolution.
Changes:

  1. Credits.fnt -> KR font large
  2. Criticalhit.fnt -> KR font large
  3. Titlescreen.fnt -> KR font large
  4. briosopro.fnt -> KR font regular (Items headings, dialogs is bigger[ i cannot control this])
  5. cinematic.fnt -> KR font regular
  6. jura.fnt -> KR font regular (GUI parts)

@Daagar glad you like it and helping you. Please check out version 3 with KOTORI ROSE font, it’s even better for 4k resolution now for players with highend PC.

What do you use to convert fonts to the .fnt format GD uses ?

Guide:

  1. Download an OTF file from a free font site.
    I use this site : https://allbestfonts.com/category/otf/
    note: not all OTF fonts are nicely readeable in game, need to find one typeface that’s not too curly.
  2. Use asset manager to convert to FNT format
    Guide:
    a) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1724466282
    b) [How To] Make Custom Font
    But i used my own technique now to mix and match using archivetool.exe command prompt.

Version 4 (normal fonts) is up. This is now my favourite :slight_smile:
Using free font DESIGNSAUR (DS font).

Changes:

  1. Titlescreen.fnt -> DS font regular
  2. briosopro.fnt -> DS font regular (Items headings (slightly condensed), NPC dialog is now normalized with this font)
  3. cinematic.fnt -> DS font regular
  4. nevis.fnt -> DS font regular (Start Menu buttons)
  5. nevisshadow.fnt-> DS font regular (Game screen upper left difficulty level, upper right place name)
  6. Jura.fnt ->(GUI parts eg. Items on ground etc)

Thanks, I basically recreated the .fnt assets as they are shown in https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1724466282 and for some fonts I got the ones I specified, but for others it does not seem to have worked. I e.g. replaced the font of combattext and
criticalhit with Road Rage and some other fonts, but none showed up for some reason (I assume the combat numbers should use the text…). Any idea / can you get them to work ?

@mamba I did one quickly and I managed to get combattext.fnt working. You cannot just overwrite with another fnt font.
On https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1724466282, goto combattext.fnt section and follow exactly the asset manager specs.
Here is a mock up sample (took me only 5 mins) , if you want it, i will make a version 5 with road rage font combattext.fnt and criticalhit.fnt and a monster hud for it. (i kinda like it very much). Thanks for suggesting road rage font.

I followed those, was wondering if maybe the issue was that the settings say bold when the font has no bold option, but did not check what would happen if I did not set the font to bold in the asset file.

I do have the bmp file created along with the fnt file, so I assume it should be working, it’s just that the game still uses its regular font despite that.

If you don’t mind making a version 5, I’d appreciate that :wink:

Version 5 (normal fonts with ROAD RAGE combat font) is up. Per @mamba suggestion.
Changes:

  1. combattext.fnt -> RR font.

  2. Criticalhit.fnt-> RR font
    The combat now looks like ‘Pretty Damage’ for Torchlight 2 mod.

  3. nevisshadow-lg_faced.fnt -> This is monster hud font changed to road rage font. The ~ sign somehow is not rendered hence it’s depicted as a “square” per diagram. I may find out a suitable one later with the ~ sign.

Everything else stays from version 4.

Ha. Oddly enough that Road Rage looks like it goes well for criticals and monster names. It’s a bit cartoony but it does look easy to read. Might have to give it a whirl.

Edit: Oh yeah. Winning combination. I like it.

Version 6 : PRETTY COMBAT.
(normal fonts with ROAD RAGE combat font and THE GRIMM MONSTER HUD) is up. I think it’s my best so far.
Changes:

  1. nevisshadow-lg_faced.fnt -> THE GRIMM font for monster hud. This font name and typeface is so fitting for the game.
  2. Cinematic.fnt -> THE GRIMM font
    Everything else stays from version 5.

Oh man, these custom fonts look dope. I can’t say I like all of them exactly, but I think it’s great we now have options of tweaking the interface. Especially if Crate keeps the new monster name font after the next patch, because apart from its size, it is completely unreadable in combat

Thanks for the RR update :+1:

As we said in France : “All the taste are in the nature”
My eyes are bleeding…:upside_down_face::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

gave this one a try and learned something weird from it…

For me, the Road Rage still did not show up, instead I saw the regular damage number font. The difference is that I had added the fonts.arc to the mod I was playing, instead of replacing the standard game file. Once I did that, the RR font showed up.
When I then did that with my own RR fonts.arc, it also showed up…

No idea why the fonts.arc in the mod directory does not do so, it’s almost as if the fonts there do not replace the standard ones while the game has no choice but to use them when you literally replace the standard ones… did not happen for all fonts though, some were replaced even when in the mods dir, but the combattexts definitely were not one of them… seems like some kind of bug in GD at this point

@agraf lol i dont understand your French taste, lol

Small update on ver 6: I forgot to move THE GRIMM font into cinematic.fnt, it looks better and more fitting rather than a serif font.
Please redownload from re-updated mega link if you have previously downloaded.

I downloaded Version 3 and I have to say this is such a great improvement to the game that they really should add these options to the base game. I didn’t realize how much I squinted at the screen until I got this and didn’t have to any more. Great work and a hearty THANK YOU!! :):smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
