Start of summer (June I guess). Frostbite.
Okay, it’s Alpine … but even in the alps you need to go seriously high to get frostbite in June.
that looks like April to me, mid to late April
Indeed, that’s April, not June.
Unseasonal weather does occasionally happen. I remember as a kid in Invercargill, NZ, we had a snowfall in December (that’s June equivalent in the northern hemisphere), and it completely wiped out the tulip crop, which was the major non-grass-based crop grown locally. Invercargill is at 46 degrees south, and usually doesn’t register snow even in winter, let alone summer.
I have snow in april, eventhough it would be hard to get frostbite. But there the game clearly says “start of summer” … so I assumed it was june.
A. not june
B. you can get frostbite in snow
C. even with current global warming we’ve had snow in april once, so yeah I say plausible
Well it’s a fantasy world, so anything is possible.
I don’t consider April to be the start of summer … but never mind.
And global warming has nothing to do with having snow or not. I have snow each april … but it’s not “start of summer” as the game puts it.
Well, it’s not Earth so why you’re following conventional Earth seasonal points is probably where the issue comes in.
Even calling it April or June, while conventional, isn’t necessarily accurate.
Yes but fruit trees still have validity with month names.
Where in game does it say April is the start of summer?
If you put your mouse over the bar, it tells you in which season you are.
So currently just begun a new year and it’s … early spring.
I hardly qualify January as “early spring” … so my understanding is that the bar is based on seasons, not months, so the 4th spot in kind of “June” from my point of view (early summer).
in the Cascades you can get frostbite almost any month of the year if you’re high enough and the weather is bad. (though it’s rare to get it july or august).
We get full blown snowstorms (1-2 feet) occasionally in the mountains here June and Sept (maybe once every couple of years)
Yeah, saying winter is from October to December, is bizarre, I have to say!
The image posted at the top of this thread shows clearly it’s “early summer”, so you’re right when saying it’s something around june. Absolutely not april.
The year bar starts with early spring, so technically the first block is a period between 20th march and 20th april. Similarly, the fourth block is a period between 21st june and 21st july, so in your image you’re technically not in june but in july. An odd period to have frostbites, yeah.
Being one of the original arguers for this being April, yet seeing validity in the points made by others, I had to see if I could figure out which month those blocks stood for at the time. The only place that I know of where months are specifically listed is in the harvest time of the trees.
So, I followed Zera for a year.
Not quite half way through the 4th box on the year bar at the top she change from “unable to work” to “harvesting fruit”. Zera then arrived at the Orchard exactly at the beginning of the 5th month. I thought, “Ah, the 5th month is when she started actually harvesting, so that might be the begging of June!” Well, she stopped two months later… even though peaches go from June to Aug. So, that means the 4th month was when she was actually starting.
At this point I was about to admit the 4th month was June and those who had said so where right… but then I followed some pear and apple people… which are harvestable from Sept to October. And wouldn’t you know it… they started harvesting in the 7th month. So if we put Sept as the 7th month in the list below, then count back 3 months and put June, that matches the 4th month when Zera started harvesting peaches.
Well, dang…
1st - March
2nd - April
3rd - May
4th - June
5th - July
6th - Aug
7th - Sept
8th - Oct
9th - Nov
10th - Dec
11th - Jan
12th - Feb
Though frost in June/July still isn’t unheard of, it should be EXTREMELY rare. I have seen snow in July, but that was once… 30 years ago…
SIDE NOTE: When its not time to pick fruit… they wander around for 9 months doing absolutely nothing but eating and watching shadow puppets.
Solid work!
So we basically have contradictory statements in game. It rolls over a “new year” at the end of the 12th month, but that 12th month isn’t December.
This needs rectifying.
Not necessarily. They decided to go with seasons in the top bar.
From a “nature” point of view, spring is the beginning of a new year (bears wake up, flowers, bees, etc…).
Where there is a spring of course
It would just be nice if they put the month in the top bar since it’s used by the arborist building.
I agree. It’s common thing in such games (Banished is the best example of this) that a “new year” starts with spring, meaning when you start a new cultivation cycle.
But on the other hand I agree with their choice not to use months’ names (similarly to Banished too), so this can help us to have free rein over imagination; also bounding “spring” with “march” can lead to some confusion to those who live in places where march is the start of autumn. What really matters is the period of the year, the season.
Agree, but they should get rid of month names in the arborist building … to be consistent and south hemisphere friendly .
Also, thinking of the leaving the former settlement and founding a new village would be best done in spring as it gives you the most time before winter again. So if these are “settlement years” then it also works.
Because the game starts at early spring, so 1 year later is early spring. They are counting years based on when you settled the city, not when Jan 1 was.
