Here is why I do not want Humble to revoke my Steam key.
I bought the PS3 version of Portal 2, and to get people to tie their PSN and PC accounts together, a voucher was in the box for a free PC version of Portal 2 as well. I installed the PC version, and a few days later my account was flagged due to a duplicate key and it was revoked. The same key is used on both the PS3 and PC version, so someone at Valve treated it the same as a chargeback on a credit card and my account was locked. It took weeks of Steam Support Hell to get the issue resolved, even though the problem was of their own making. That is why I am not going to get my Grim Dawn key revoked on Steam.
I was promised a DRM Free copy when I backed it on Kickstarter, but I guess from what I am reading here, that unless I have Humble revoke my Steam key, there is no other way to get what I was promised. I backed Grim Dawn due to the DRM Free promise, but I am not taking the chance of having issues with my Steam account again.
I see there has been a lot of back and forth with this now showing both sides of the argument. Just to respond to you for clarification:
You can’t assume one word changes the meaning while removing the other word does not. We may understand the sentence differently, but that does not make your comprehension anymore correct than mine. Of course that is mainly due to how incredibly poorly it is worded. At the end of the day, I really can’t remove ‘or’ anymore than you can’t remove ‘also’.
As it has been mentioned, it is a contradiction because they mean the complete opposite independently, and they are being put together here. The person who did the glove and hat analogy showed the breakdown pretty well. Basically the breakdown to me meant, you can download DRM free or you can also (see what I did there) activate a Steam code. It is common on Humble Bundle to have a DRM free download along side a Steam code. Makes sense.
I did not agree with anyone. In fact I made it clear that I understood it completely differently. What I did agree upon was a personal compromise because I like the game. I will trade a Steam code for a GOG code. I think they are completely wrong, but will settle for a DRM free game on GOG. (Which I still DO NOT have by the way!)
There really is no difference to me between ‘or also’ and ‘and also’ other than ‘or also’ should never be used to avoid this exact issue.
Basically, lets agree to disagree, and not claim that either is wrong.
Side note: A couple of other quick but poorly written examples:
Would you like food or also a drink? (Does this mean only food or drink, or both?)
Enjoy the free controller or also the free game. (Do I get one or both?)
You may like the coffee plain or also with whip cream on top. (Implies that you would still have the coffee but with whip on top.)
i have already asked and told no exchange, so no i dont have that option open to me at the moment.
Hence my question , is there a plan that will allow me to swap.
i am not a kickstarter but the sale site on humble stated i would receive a DRM free version on release, which was the reason i bought into the deal.
I dont want 2 copies i want a DRM free version
Forgot to add, Grim update #47 had said that they were working things out with Humble, but there was no mention that I would need to have my Steam key revoked in order to get the DRM free version. If I had known that, I had already waited 2.5 years, I could have waited another couple weeks.
Why would it need GOG Galaxy to play multiplayer?
I dunno if Galaxy has better access to some online server, but surely one would be able to play lan without Galaxy?
I don’t assume. It was said by a mod in this thread.
And yes, with DRM free released with a clunky transfer system, one month after release, with multiplayer disabled is an absolute disaster, and incompetent, sloppy, and unprofessional.
If I had to use Galaxy for online play, then that wouldn’t be the end of the world. I just want to be able to play with a friend who has steam, like every other normal game does.
As for how it is different. I have the DRM free release as promised for playing single player/LAN with my son, as well as a way to play with steam if needed. I like owning my games, and not using Steam DRM or potentially have to deal with the absolutely abysmal Steam “customer support.”
Yes, you would need GOG Galaxy to play multiplayer. This would only connect you to other GOG Players. Crate may look at implementing the GOG crossplay feature at a later date to allow GOG players to play with Steam players.
I couldn’t find the post medierra had where he mentioned that you should be able to play the Steam or GOG version together using the LAN play. Which wouldn’t use either Steam’s or GOG’s player match up services. But this would only work on a LAN and not across the Internet, unless you used some sort of Virtual Network to connect to disparate machines.
no confusion it stated as i said that i would get a copy DRM free it was on humble site 1st march when i bought it.
I checked and rechecked before i bought it, i am not confused and it was on humbles site.
which is why i said i was miss sold by humble.
i know it now changed to basic no DRM free, but it was DRM free promised when i bought. site error maybe, but still clearly stated nether the less.
I feel robbbed as i do not like Steam, i like DRM free . but when offfered play before full release i took the opportunity believing i could move to the DRM free version when released. i was not aware like others that the release would be so soon after or that it would go to GOG or i would have waited.
In your case, you got owned. This release has been so problematic etc. I’m not even playing yet. Review the events if you want to see ALL that has been happening.
The actual official stance is NOPE no GoG for you. You can actually fight this and you will get what you should have based on XXX YYY ZZZ etc. I don’t want to add yet another layer on top of this MESS and this is more complex to “fight” since you are not a KS backer. I’ve had enough of this BS though :undecided:.
The “energy” and time you’d use and the “trolling” you’d receive at first (I presume) and the length of the procedural communications etc. means it is “better” for you to pay for the GoG; for your copy of DRM-free again, since it is not that expensive; than to “waste” time (= $$$) and get annoyed etc. They are not willing to do what you request for buyers in your situation. But you are right. Sorry man but we 2012 backers have been ^$%#!@ so much… that your case pales in comparison lol so we can’t help everybody anymore. Good luck though maybe they do a nice gesture if not you got pwned and if you fight they will resist because then they’d have to do it for all others in your case etc.
Yeah… c’mon man this is really deliberate I mean a bear doesn’t even react anymore to you it’s like an annoying fly hovering above so bear says wtv it’s a little insect doesn’t matter anymore … you’ve been involved since the start of the BIG thread; so your comment is nothing more than blatant trolling (in the best case) at this “climax” of the where’s my DRM-free GD adventure. sigh
No. Humble can only give you a GOG key for the DRM-Free key.
You also have to have bought via the Grim Dawn (GD) web site, or backed during the Kickstarter (KS).
If you have already redeemed your Steam key, then you should follow the instructions in the OP to start the swap of Steam key for GOG key. And again, this only applies to those that bought from the GD web site, or backed the game during the KS.
Similar to my case even though I bought through this website as opposed to through Humble. I would recommend making sure to link this thread. Let them know that the only way the developer has decided to distribute the DRM free version is through a swap of your steam key for a GOG key only. Because Humble promised DRM free at the time of your purchase, they need to keep their end of the contract with a GOG key or offer an immediate refund. It would really help you if you have the original email or screen shot showing a DRM free version promised from Humble though since you have the developers on here stating they will only do DRM free if you bought through the website.
If it makes you feel any better, I can’t get my GOG key either because Humble wants proof of purchase from 2014 when I bought the game before they will change my steam key to a GOG one. I have been back and forth with them since Friday trying to get it resolved. Of course still no DRM free game, and no promised DLC. I also don’t want to activate the steam key in fear of more trouble. I really hope you and I both have everything resolved ASAP!
hey at least you get a response from the humble guys. i have had wait times of over 2 months in the past. not to mention that i still have to hear from them on my gd gog key. this is being handled as poorly as expected.
Where on Humble’s description of Grim Dawn do you believe you saw that you’d get a DRM-Free version? It doesn’t say that anywhere that I can find and, so far as I know, their store page hasn’t been updated since it launched there.
Are you sure you didn’t buy through our website, which is powered by Humble payment processing?
If you bought through our website, then you would have the GOG option.
