Grim Dawn Expansion Development News

Correct! But the amount of people who speedrun grim dawn vs copies sold tell who bought the game imo. I enjoy watching speedruns (any kind of game) very much, however I do not get any fun/pleasure out of doing it myself.

Assume it’s going to be released in Q3. Some time between July - September. That way if they say July, you’re happy since it’s at the beginning of your assumption, and if it’s September that’s cool too, since you expected it some time then anyway

For old players, still active or not, there is not much difference between getting it now or later.
The goal is more the new players.

If on the release of the expansion all players come back to the game, there will be some hype as they will show/speak about the game to their friend, which will join them on the adventure, and bring in new friend, etc.
The more players come back, the more they can expect new players.

But if some come back on the release, some come back one month lather, some come back for holidays… then the hype is less important hence less effective.

I guess that I am an outlier with my opinions then because I have never understood “hype” buying with anything. I am an older aged player and do not feel the need to buy any game on release date or anywhere close to it for most games. I get just as much enjoyment from playing xx game a year after release for $20 as I would for paying $60 a year earlier, but thats me and I realize that is not for everyone.

Yeah I’m the opposite of that. I don’t know what exactly it is, but I get this undeniable buzz from playing a game on release. I think it’s because I know EVERYBODY is starting fresh as well, we’re all on a level playing field hammering hours and hours into this game to be that one step ahead of the next guy. As you can tell I’m a MAJOR fan of “seasons” and “leagues” where everything is started fresh. I do enjoy “untwinked” leveling in GD as well, no stash, no writs no help (unless I’m playing with a friend then we’re both untwinked!)

I like sitting in the game menu on skype with friends watching the clock count down to when the next season/league starts and we’re all getting excited and preparing the snacks and drinks etc!.

I’m hoping stat reset is available when expansion comes out

I believe Zantai has said it will be, but I don’t remember where/when exactly.

it will be possible, has been said in several dev streams

some extra hype

[spoiler]

enjoy

Sounds like a music you’d hear during a boss fight or something close enough to that… I’m loving it!

I was eventually going to ask about a music/sound grim misadventure, nice little taste of what’s to come.

edit: It will be interesting to see what differences there will be in music style when it comes to GD Vanilla and GD Suit of Zantai / GD Building Bridges.

Hype doesn’t work only on release. It also sell games months or years later.
You see a game on sale, you remember hearing about it from a friend or because all internet talked about it, and so you buy it.

The more the hype, the bigger the effect. But the effect is not only immediate.

If you go now on steam to see the top sellers, you can see last year Doom. The return of the licence, from Bethesda, generated quite the hype.
(Even though I never found that Doom 2016 to be that good: all the qualities listed for that title - fast, gore, etc - were far better in my opinion in Shadow Warrior 2, another 2016 fps of an old licence.)

The wait is killing me. :furious:

This is the best aRPG I’ve ever played, and… I don’t feel there is a “point” to play now that there’s an expansion close.

At the same time, I’m aching for some GD… damnit

best endings i ever read in books were the ones that also pissed me off to no end. they would leave a finished story and never come back to the reality again. to write more on it. there would be all these questions too. they didn’t even tie up all the loose ends. just the story itself. all the possibilities left behind. Never expressed.

saddened me so much to get to the end of such books. i enjoyed that i could write the other stories in my own head. Walk through all the possibilities. Still, it saddened me greatly that i would never get to know the authors take on it.

those are the ending i want more of. a finished story. so many more to be told, but never will be officially published. a never ending reality. that i will always be able to explore and enjoy.

(my brother just found the English dub of the “Fairy Tale” anime. i have been finding my self listening to that. unfortunately the tone of those episodes are going to be in my writing style. until something else shapes it into a new mold. not to mention the sentimental nostalgic feelings the series generates. (never have watched it before))

But It should release early like June so more people will buy GD expansion cause D3 expansion and people who don’t like the new class will not buy it anyway, saves time in picking up trash of that class cause it’s non exsistent and looks weak and POE story is boring anyways but gameplay and farming is good and GD is good on all aspects even boss fights, crucible, story and farming. I can farm better in GD than POE cause it ain’t a grind to farm in GD unless your having RNG bad luck

You might as well get back to enjoying Grim Dawn as the expansion isn’t that close…it’s not even released or hinted about to the playtesters yet…:frowning:

See, that’s why I respect Frank Herbert so much. He designed a universe, a whole reality, telling one single story across thousands of years. So few people really write epics well anymore, or at all. But he did it right, even his death didn’t stop it. And his loose ends, instead of leaving you upset, or questioning, left you believing in the good future he meant them to portend.

I’d be fine with that with GD… If it’s done well. TBH, the only way I can see that happening is beating Chthon, and somehow stopping Aetherials from entering. You could end there. Victory would be forthcoming, but not yet achieved. You’d know that your character still had to deal with the Aetherials still in the world, even if they couldn’t return. The Cult would have to be dealt with, bandits stopped, order restored, a world rebuilt… You’d have a lot to do, but with Chthon and the Aetherials blocked from entering the world, you could actually… Win.

Its hinted by dev as 2 Quarter of this year so its May, June or July release date. Read his posts
