Grim Misadventure #114: A New Thing...

I take back the kind of. I WISH masteries were available to be purchased individually so i could avoid spending money on Necromancer and just get Inquisitor.

Judging by the picture of the Mastery I’m assuming the Necromancer and his minions are facing off against some of the new Aetherials we’ll come across in the expansion. Aetherial Imps and what looks like a flesh hulk sized mutant with aether crystals on his back and at least 1 ranged cannon for an arm.

I like it. Reminds me of the Spirit mastery from TQ.

Well, Steam Engineer actually fits the world of Grim Dawn, if you think about it.

Necromancer --> Defiler(?) to purge the typical Necromancers with fire and brimstone?

From my earliest days at Crate, I’ve had a strict edict from the highest command that steampunk has no place in Cairn.

This has me beyond hyped.

My previous time in Grim Dawn was spent pretending to be a Necromancer on my Occultist with Og’Napesh’s grimoire. And I spent most of my time farming undead in Arkovia. I guess its just… my thing?

I’m probably going to delete my existing characters completely and start afresh with a Necromancer. Not sure about the second specialisation, perhaps Arcanist. I like the idea of starting over… my Occultist is literally from before the original release, back when only Act 1 was finished. I’ll remake him in time.

I wonder whether melee builds are going to be fun to play with this mastery, because up to now I’ve always played casters in Grim Dawn. I just don’t like the 2h animations, but maybe scythes could work well.

Very curious to see what other things we’ll be able to do. Especially the other summons and the higher-tier skills.

Precisely this.

I never had an issue with characters being basically Kymon’s Chosen classes (fire/lightning dual wield and sword and shield) joining Death’s Vigil because nobody in it said they hated those specific classes, they just hate Kymon’s Chosen themselves.

Kymon’s Chosen actively hate Necromacers and the act of necromancy to the point that is why they fight Death’s Vigil. What sense would it make for a Necromancer to able to join them? It won’t. No apocalypse or end of the world would make a faction change their mind with that level of hatred.

This is like in Fallout New Vegas, a Caesar’s Legion member being able to join NCR. They hate each other guts to the point they murder each other at the slightest opportunity.

Despite the gripes of others, I am fucking hyped and loving it. I don’t care if other people find necros boring (hell you haven’t even revealed the rest of their skill set) I think a ton of people will be happy to relive their D2 necro days with new GD flair! I will be.

Though correct me if wrong but “fooling” the admissions process will totally be through conversation text? I’m really fucking looking forward to this:

Have 5 skellybro summons out, talk to Kymon’s chosen about joining. Death’s Vigil guy looks at me like, “Forreal man?”
Shrug my shoulders.
Get called heretic by Kymon bro.
“What? No no, I’m not a necromancer. Trusssssst me. This skeletal garb is just, uh, a fashion statement.”
Get asked about my loyal skellybro army right behind me.
“What?!” turns around “Holy shit! When the hell did those appear. Oh uh, righhhhht. Yeah I just came from Arkovia and you see I was uhhhh cursed!
Yeah that’s it! Cursed! Those damned Necromancers and their evil forbidden magic! Kymon damn them!
BY THE POWER OF KYMON BE BANISHED!!!”
disband skellybro army (sorry mates!)
Kymonbro doesn’t look fully convinced, but after a while takes a deep breath and relents. “Alright, meet us at sorrow’s bastion then.”
Watch emissaries walk away, wink at the death’s vigilbro as he leaves profoundly confused.

I am doom. I will slay the necromancers. Then I will be THE necromancer. The only Necromancer!!!

At some point in Cornucopia I think I will make a set themed around kymon’s chosen that converts your necromancer summon damage types to kymon damage types. It’ll leave the head piece open you so you can wear a ridiculously evil skeleton mask with shiny holy kymon’s gear.

You’re right, and if you read the earlier comments like I suggested, you’d know that Necromancers cannot join the Kymon’s Chosen.

Think there was a comment earlier about Kymon’s Chosen Augments for Necromancers, think the new faction Augments should more than suffice as alternatives.

Considering the almost steampunkish atmosphere and technological prowess of the world, I honestly find this strange at least. But oh well, thanks for clarification.

Here’s a [post=48431]good post to get a better feel for the GD influences and style[/post]. As always eisprinzessin does a great job at finding info.

The level of technology isn’t the real deal here since you’re using magic to animate it as a technomancer (which still IMO would please the necromancer crowd and using the early Cairn technology that is to offer), might as well be something as simple as a floating 2x4 with a rusty nail. It all comes down to what you want to do with the resources you have at your disposal. Skelliebros with small furnances in their chest breathing fire/ice/poison clouds or reanimated dogs as suicidal bombs/ spiked with rusty shards lacerating enemies while blitzing through the crowd. I know you guys have the ideas in your heads as you’ve proven time and time again with every next update, here I feel you just really went to please the crowd with a stock necromancer.

Also POE has a necromancer.

Also also, why everything necromancy/death related has to be coloured in teal-tones? Slap some sweet magenta on it and add summoning undead unicorns impailing my foes.

I can’t say I’ll hate this class, it’s just not the level of amazingess I was expecting~

Oh man and here I was hoping for something like eldrich based mastery with new type of damage etc… kinda like the sentinel spell kit but Dis will be more than fine addition. Thanks for all the effort crate team to bring us something enjoyable. “Cheers”.

Wait, really? Oh thank god. Okay, i’m all good now. Guess my saltyness made me kind of blind.

But wait, that means Necromancers can only do Death’s Vigil questline. So far every class can do either of the two. Wait, does that mean Inquisitor can only do Kymon quests or can it do both?

Now that you know what both masteries are, what are you looking forward to the most in Grim Dawn’s first expansion?

Does that mean there will be more than one expansion?

And magic, and fire, and ice, and lightning, and chaos, and poison, and spiders, and swords, and shields, and humans, and fighters, etc…

Why does everything have to be similar?

They’ve said that if the first expansion goes well, then another would be most likely to happen. It’s certainly no guarantee.

I’m dying of laughter. Zantai, I hope you and the rest of the good folks of Crate are able to make a scenario like this happen

On topic. I was apprehensive when I heard rumblings of a Necro mastery coming up since I feel like they all too often fall into the exact same mold as the Diablo 2 necro with little changes beyond “the standard” implementation of it. This, however, looks to be extremely promising and I’m very excited to try it out.

Off topic: The class names now make me nostatlic for Titan Quest. I miss my old Defense + Spirit “spellbinder” :frowning:
