Grim Misadventure #192 - Settled

But what about second Grim Misadventures? Last time, we revealed a new style of weaponry. These absolutely energized melee weapons will bring an entirely new aesthetic to your collection. Today, we are sharing two of the fifteen sets coming initially in Fangs of Asterkarn. As you can imagine, sets are some of the most intensive work for the art department, as they bring unique visuals that have to pair nicely with existing items. With these sets, we really wanted to deliver on the Kurn fantasy, both their savagery and fall to darkness.

Jarldin’s Fury

“Jarldin’s strength was unmatched, such that he sought challenge among the mightiest fighters and even monstrosities of Cairn."

Apoclypton

“While Apoclypton’s dire warnings of the world consumed in fire never came to pass, recent events brought fresh perspective on the soothsayer’s words."

As an avid set collector, you may want to speed up the process of acquiring all the new appearances. You will actually find the Ascension Altar to be a surprising ally, as it can not only boost drop rates in general, but by activating its Roguelike Dungeon bonuses, you will have a chance to spawn unique mastery-themed repositories throughout the dungeon that have an increased chance to drop set pieces specific to your active masteries (you classless runners out there will of course have a bonus chance of loot in general ;)).

And let us not forget your biggest fans, the Nemesis bosses. With Fangs of Asterkarn, we wanted to add more variety to these deadly persistent bullies by ensuring that each existing hostile faction is represented by not one but two unique foes (Aetherials and Ch’thonians being the exception as they already have 2).

Meet Borreus the Underking

If you brave the upcoming Ascendant Mode, Nemesis bosses will respawn during each session, instead of spawning once, so you will never be truly safe. Imagine spawning a Nemesis and the Dread at the same time! We are sure it will be fine.

Fine

Looks great! Does it block amulet slot tho, because there is an awesome Chaos Canister conduit.

Barrowholm cellar will be fun if you can get repeated Reaper + Neo Reaper every few kills

well, maybe we can instead get chaos canister conduit changed to sth like… pierce canister??

also GoE support on the set looks kinda weird, since we already have 2 fire GoE sets and I don’t see any chaos conversion for them or anything.

you’re only seeing the set bonuses, chaos conversion could be modifiers on one of teh individual set pieces
(or that there new approach where sets get pseudo expanded to +1 enabler item like Blightlord burning shadows medal etc)

Could be on the amulet that converts them to chaos alongside with another modifier that deals additional chaos damage

Damn I was so sure the game would shadowdrop today

Can they spawn multiple times at once? It’d be so fun to fight a dozen Kuba!

Chaos Hammerbois? With a color change!? YES PLEASE

Does the beard come with the helm? That’s cool!

If the female model has a beard I will be the best drag queen in the violent history of Cairn.

Loving the tease so far
I’d been hoping for the Affix transmutation before they announced the feature set(have a meme-build in mind, but it needs two weapons each of which practically impossible to get currently), loved the slight increase in complexity via the Potion Customization and have been filling alts with Epic items waiting to see all the glory that Awakening will bring (also Ascended items enabling all sort of ‘non-standard’ build ideas not as viable with what we have currently) but I be damned if I’m not the most excited about the Ascension Altar. Grim Dawn gives us so many amazing tools from the Masteries and Devotions to the Itemization and skills from items, but I’d always felt that our playground was limited, now that we’ll be able to modify the world itself my only hope is that, to use current day ARPG slang, we can juice the altar to obscene levels and get a somewhat proportional risk to reward ratio.

There are only two QoL things that remain (in my book) one being Storage (correct me if I’m wrong I remember Zantai mentioning something about them working on it)
The other being, and I might be the only one who has this issue, teleportation - more specifically having to repeatedly scroll the map to get to where you want to go. This is especially evident when farming for something(quite often all around Cairn) and re-starting the world and having to click-and-drag several times per teleport and maybe there are 3-4 locations that you want to visit per restart.
I’d love to have either a static menu with all of the location you can teleport to, for example on the left of the map - or some sort of a ‘favorites’ or last visited list where we can put the locations that we’re currently visiting - so that when farming for items one can just open the map screen and perform a single click to where they want to go instead of performing several ‘painful’ click-and-drags.
I’m absolutely fine with implementing it as such that when interfacing with a portal you get an
entirely different UI, that is static and has all of the locations (and maybe favorites on the side), while retaining the current Map UI when one opens the map. That way map-ui bloat can be avoided?
Only other thing I’d love to see, but there’s a ready solution for is having something like what the Rainbow Filter offers but natively. It’s fine as is and I’d much rather see a Storage and Teleportation rework than it, but I really dislike using external programs to either launch the game from or alt tab to access / work with (like the current external storage solutions).

Anyway much love for the entire Crate team, this is the only game that I permanently have installed on any and all hardware that can run it, despite not having that much time to play these days :sob:

The Jarldin set looks really awesome. However miffed I am at possibly having to use Leap as a damage skill, I can take consolation in the reset mechanic making moving between packs really fast.

Looking at the public preview of the Berserker mastery on Grim Dawn Build Calculator, you can see Leap has a large AoE. If you have ever played low-cooldown Shadow Strike, just imagine that except you get a free Olexra’s Flash Freeze every leap landing.

Excuse my thought process here but I do wonder how the Apocalypton set will look on a female character.
