Can you believe there are 200 Grim Misadventures? Me neither. Well, technically, there are 201, because the first one ever was my first day on the job, almost 14 years ago. To think they started as kind of a gag. About 99% of them were written by me, so in a way this entire series of dev updates is just one big memory lane. Update 200 should be all about me!
And, in a way, maybe it will be. Bear with me. Today, we have some gorgeous unique set art to share with you, but first some context. You may recall our Loyalist Pack III featuring a very legless Ch’thon-inspired look? We have been having some fun with the tech behind it, Loyalist Packs not required.
Cinderborn
“Forged of cinders, reborn in flame, doomed to feed its hunger.”
If you have ever wanted to look and fight like a furious fire elemental, this is the set for you. The very vines you conjure will ignite with hungry flames.

Now, how does this all circle back to me? Well, one of the most common questions I have been asked over the years was “Zantai, what is your favorite class combo/build?” A reasonable question, and one I readily had an answer for: Spellbreaker. And I know it is not an optimal playstyle, but one built around Shadow Strike and Trozan’s Sky Shard. Eventually players caught on and even tried to build the Zantaibreaker. As it turned out, there was very little supporting gear and the entire premise was a dud. A strange phenomenon given it was supposed to be my go-to build? So, the follow-up question became: “well if this is your favorite playstyle, why is there no gear for it?”
I have always had this deep-seeded feeling that if I catered loot we create to myself, then I am just stifling the creative potential of our itemization to what I want. It felt too self-serving, like abusing my power that probably every ARPG player ever craves to have.
Well, with Fangs of Asterkarn, there will never be another opportunity again. I am breaking the chains of my self-imposed limitation. I present to you, the signature Zantai set!
Zakull’s Anima
“Zakull wove shadow and ice into a tapestry of desolation. The night sky was the ultimate reflection of his soul.”
I do not think we will quite make it to #300, but there are still a few GMs left in us as we update you not only on the upcoming Fangs of Asterkarn expansion, but also the content updates beyond its release! And some day, who can say, perhaps we will have to start again with GM #1 for a Grim Dawn 2… Be sure to like and subscribe.
